One of the most heartwarming parts of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is watching your island grow across generations. Welcoming new babies brings fresh stories, deeper family connections, and wonderful new dynamics that make your island feel truly alive. The process takes a bit of patience, but it’s very rewarding when it happens.
Can You Have Babies in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream?
Yes, you can have babies on your island. There are three main ways to add children, depending on how you want to experience it.

| Method | How It Works |
| Wait for a married couple to have a baby | The natural and most story-driven way |
| Create a child in Add Mii | Build a child from scratch (set age below 18) |
| Use the Kid-o-Matic Spray | Turn an existing adult Mii into a child |
Method 1 — Waiting for a Married Couple to Have a Baby
This is the classic and most satisfying way to welcome a new child onto your island.
Step 1: Help Your Miis Fall in Love and Get Married
First, two Miis need to develop a strong romantic relationship and eventually get married. You can’t force a proposal, but regularly supporting their bond makes it much more likely to happen naturally.
Note: Marriage and babies are not available in the free demo version — you’ll need the full game to experience this.
Step 2: Strengthen Their Marriage
Once they’re married, keep nurturing their relationship until they reach Irreplaceable status, the highest level of romance.
Step 3: Watch for the Pink Speech Bubble
When the couple reaches Irreplaceable, a pink speech bubble may randomly appear above their home. Tap it, and they’ll ask about starting a family. Agree, and the process begins.
Step 4: Wait Two Real-World Days
After agreeing, you’ll need to wait about two real-world days. When you come back, the excited couple will let you know the baby has arrived.
Step 5: Welcome and Customize Your New Baby
When the baby is born, you get to make several choices:
- Gender (boy, girl, or random)
- Appearance (keep the natural mix of both parents or edit it)
- Name (accept their suggestion or choose your own)
- Personality (match one parent or randomize)
The baby’s face is a blend of both parents and will evolve naturally as they grow. You can always make changes later if you want.
Method 2 — Creating a Child Directly
If you’d rather add a child right away, go to Add Mii and create a new resident. Simply set their age to below 18, and they’ll be treated as a child. You can even assign parents to create instant family ties.
Method 3 — Using the Kid-o-Matic Spray
The Kid-o-Matic Spray is a special gift that instantly turns an adult Mii into a child.
Important: This effect is permanent and cannot be reversed, so the Mii will lose all their adult relationships and memories. Use it carefully.
What Happens After the Baby Is Born?
The parents look after the baby through a sweet, short montage. Once the child grows up, you’ll make one final decision:
- Stay on the island → They become a full resident and get their own apartment
- Leave the island → They become a traveler (and may return for visits)
This choice cannot be changed later.
Important Population Rules
- Your island has a hard cap of 70 Miis.
- Babies being raised during the montage do not count toward this limit.
- Once the child grows up and stays permanently, they do count toward the cap. If you’re already at 70, you’ll need to delete another Mii first.
Key Things to Know
- Make sure the Baby Option is turned ON in the settings menu (it’s enabled by default).
- Married couples can only raise one baby at a time, but there’s no overall limit to how many babies can be born on the island.
- A couple cannot divorce, fight, or be deleted while they’re raising a baby.
- Children (under 18) cannot enter romantic relationships with adults, but they can with other children.
- You can set any Mii to a static age so they never grow older.
- Avoid using time travel (changing the system clock). It can freeze shops and disrupt your island’s daily life.
