Bret Michaels has pulled out of the rest of his 2026 tour after his doctors advised him to take several months away from the road following recent surgeries. The decision also means the Poison frontman will no longer headline the 180th Canfield Fair in Ohio on Labor Day, September 7.
The Canfield Fair has now confirmed a new rock lineup, with Donnie Iris and the Cruisers stepping in alongside The Clarks. The concert will still be followed by the planned Phantom Fireworks finale at approximately 9 p.m., giving fans a full night of live music and entertainment despite the unexpected headline change.
Michaels joins a run of touring artists forced off the road by sudden medical issues this year, including Alkaline Trio, who canceled their UK tour hours before a Birmingham show after Matt Skiba’s medical emergency.
Bret Michaels’ 2026 Tour Cancellation Changes Canfield Fair Labor Day Lineup
Michaels’ team announced that the singer is stepping away from his remaining 2026 performances because of health concerns connected to his recent surgeries and an especially demanding summer touring schedule.
According to Michaels Entertainment Group, Michaels’ doctors recommended several months of rest and recovery rather than having him continue on the road. His representatives also pointed to summer heat and humidity as additional concerns, noting that those conditions can negatively affect his blood sugar levels.
The announcement from Michaels Entertainment Group included an apology to fans:
“Our deepest apologies from Michaels Entertainment Group, as we were truly looking forward to the rest of this year’s shows.”
That decision immediately affected Michaels’ planned appearance at the Canfield Fair, where he had been scheduled to headline the Grandstand show on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Michaels was originally booked to close out the fair’s 180th year as part of its Labor Day programming. The cancellation was communicated to the Canfield Fair Board through JAC Live, the event’s entertainment partner.
Michaels isn’t the only touring act to cut a performance short over health this year — country star Megan Moroney ended her Denver concert after just three songs due to illness earlier this year.
George Roman, Director in Charge of Entertainment for the Canfield Fair, acknowledged the disappointment while confirming that organizers had already moved ahead with a replacement rock lineup.
“The Fair Board was notified this morning by our partner, JAC Live, that Michaels was not continuing his tour. This was obviously not the news that we wanted to hear. But we are still looking forward to a night of rock followed by a fantastic firework finale presented by Phantom Fireworks.”
Donnie Iris and the Cruisers have now been announced as Michaels’ replacement. The group will perform alongside The Clarks during the Monday night Grandstand concert, keeping the event centered on live rock music rather than changing the evening’s format completely.
For fans who were planning their Labor Day around Michaels’ appearance, the updated Canfield Fair schedule is:
| Official Detail | Updated Information |
| Date | Monday, September 7, 2026 |
| Venue | Canfield Fairgrounds, Canfield, Ohio |
| Performers | The Clarks and Donnie Iris & the Cruisers |
| Fireworks | Phantom Fireworks |
| Fireworks Time | Approximately 9 p.m. after the concert |
| Tickets | Starting at $25 through Ticketmaster |
| Michaels Appearance | Canceled |
The fireworks finale remains part of the planned Labor Day celebration. Phantom Fireworks is scheduled to present the display at approximately 9 p.m., immediately after the concert.
For ticket holders, the situation is also fairly straightforward. Fans who still want to attend the revised concert can keep their existing tickets and watch The Clarks and Donnie Iris & the Cruisers. Those who purchased tickets specifically for Michaels and no longer want to attend can request a refund through the original point of purchase.
Tickets for the revised lineup remain available, with prices starting at $25 through Ticketmaster.
Michaels’ representatives have not provided additional medical details beyond the information surrounding his recent surgeries, recovery period and concerns about heat, humidity and blood sugar levels. The health information made public in connection with the cancellation comes from Michaels’ representatives.
The change arrives as the Canfield Fair celebrates its 180th year at the Canfield Fairgrounds in Canfield, Ohio. The long-running event traditionally brings together live entertainment, attractions, food, agricultural events and other fair activities, with the Grandstand concerts serving as one of its major entertainment draws.
Although Michaels will no longer close out the fair as originally planned, organizers have moved quickly to preserve the final-night rock concert and fireworks finale.
For fans heading to the Canfield Fair on September 7, the night will now feature The Clarks and Donnie Iris & the Cruisers before Phantom Fireworks takes over for the approximately 9 p.m. finale.
Last-minute lineup changes have become a familiar headache for tour promoters lately, not unlike when Live Nation pulled the plug on Roxette’s 40th anniversary North American tour despite strong momentum.
