The magical-girl genre is about to get seriously darker again. Magical Girl Raising Project Restart (Mahō Shōjo Ikusei Keikaku restart) has officially locked in its October 5, 2026 premiere, bringing a new group of magical girls into another brutal survival game where powers alone may not be enough to survive.

The anime was confirmed by the official series website on August 21, 2026, with broadcasts planned across TV Tokyo, AT-X, BS Fuji and other Japanese channels. Alongside a huge voice cast, several key members of the original production team are returning, while SynergySP takes over animation duties from Lerche.

Anime Pipeline: Dark survival games aren’t the only genre-defining reveal making waves this season, with another franchise unveiling a full theatrical roadmap of its own. Full details in our story: ONE PIECE Stuns Fans With GOD VALLEY Movie for 2027 and Mysterious BAAD Film for 2029.

International streaming details have not yet been fully confirmed. Crunchyroll currently streams the original Magical Girl Raising Project anime.

The wait for new footage also ends before the television premiere. On September 19, 2026, fans can attend the “Carmina BOOST!!” world-premiere event at The Grand Hall in Shinagawa, Tokyo. The event will include a live performance from Daisy×Daisy, a cast-and-staff talk show featuring director Hiroyuki Hashimoto, and most importantly, the earliest public screening of the first episode, “Hello Daisy.”

That gives fans an early look at Restart before its official television run even begins.

Studio Watch: Pre-release events and world premieres are becoming the norm for big franchise comebacks, and Naruto’s own celebration lineup is shaping up just as eventful. Read the full breakdown here: Naruto Is Making A Massive Comeback In 2027: Every Confirmed Project.

Behind the scenes, the sequel keeps several familiar names from the 2016 anime. Hiroyuki Hashimoto returns as director, while Takao Yoshioka once again handles series composition and scripts. Masako Itou, who previously served as SD character designer on the 2016 adaptation, is now designing characters for the new series based on original designs by Maruino. Satoki Iida also returns as sound director.

There is, however, one major production shift: SynergySP is now handling animation, replacing Lerche, the studio responsible for the original 2016 anime.

The musical lineup is also officially set. Minori Chihara performs the opening theme, “No tears here,” while Daisy×Daisy performs the ending theme, “ReMind.” Daisy×Daisy will also perform at the September 19 pre-release event.

The voice cast is stacked with familiar talent. Yoshino Nanjo voices Pfle, Reina Kondo plays Shadow Gale, Fairouz Ai is Masked Wonder, Honoka Inoue voices Pechka, Jenya plays Nonako Miyokata, M.A.O is Rionetta, Mariya Ise voices Clantail, and Maaya Uchida plays Magical Daisy.

The additional cast includes Hime Sawada as Nokko-chan, Akari Kitō as @Meow-Meow, Sayumi Suzushiro as Genopsyko Yumenoshima, Ami Koshimizu as Akane, Shiori Mikami as Melville, Maria Naganawa as Cherna Mouse, Miyu Tomita as Detec Bell, Aoi Yūki as Lapis Lazuline, and Megumi Han as Keek.

One returning name stands out for longtime viewers: Nao Tōyama is back as Snow White, directly connecting the new anime to the original series.

The franchise itself comes from Asari Endō’s light novel series, illustrated by Maruino and published by Takarajimasha under the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! Bunko imprint. The original television anime ran for 12 episodes from October to December 2016 on AT-X and other Japanese channels before becoming available internationally through Crunchyroll.

Fresh Original: Studio changes and new productions are shaking things up across the industry, including one entirely new original series making its own debut announcement. Our post covers it: LONA Anime Just Got Announced — Release Date, Story, and What to Expect.

And this is where Magical Girl Raising Project gets much darker than its title suggests. Crunchyroll describes the original premise:

“Magical Girl Raising Project is a popular social game that has an ability to grant players a 1 in 10,000 chance to become a real life Magical Girl with unique magical abilities to help people.”

The story then takes that seemingly innocent concept and turns it into a deadly contest. According to the description, the magical administrator fairy Fav decides to cut the magical-girl population in half, dragging 16 magical girls into a fight for survival.

Restart continues that high-stakes formula with another collection of magical girls trapped inside a deadly “raising project.” Survival, strategy, alliances and betrayal become central to the experience, rather than magical powers simply representing heroic wish fulfillment.

The sequel’s biggest differences are therefore both behind and in front of the camera. Lerche has been replaced by SynergySP, while major creative figures return from the original anime. Snow White’s return provides another important connection to the 2016 story, while the huge new ensemble promises another tense battle involving magical girls with very different abilities and personalities.

For now, the October 5, 2026 television premiere is confirmed, while the September 19 “Carmina BOOST!!” event will deliver the first public screening of “Hello Daisy.” The full episode count and further production information have not yet been announced.

Cast Corner: Returning voice talent connecting old and new eras is a running theme in anime right now, and Naruto’s franchise is leaning on a similarly stacked lineup ahead of its big convention panel.
