Nintendo’s quirky life sim Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream launched on April 16, 2026, and it has already pulled in fans from across the world. However, PC players watching from the sidelines have one big question on their minds: will the game ever make its way to PC?

Is Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Available on PC?

No. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream does not have an official PC version. The game launched exclusively on Nintendo Switch and is also playable on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo has made no announcement regarding a PC release, and none is expected.

What Platforms Is Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Available On?

The game is available on the following Nintendo platforms:

PlatformAvailableNotes
Nintendo SwitchYesFull game supported
Nintendo Switch LiteYesSome accessories may be required
Nintendo Switch 2YesFaster loading, smoother performance, 1080p in handheld mode
PCNoNo official version exists
MobileNoNo mobile version announced

You can purchase the digital version of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream directly through the Nintendo eShop at a regular price of $59.99. A physical edition is also available through retail.

Will It Ever Release on PC?

This is extremely unlikely. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a Nintendo first-party title, and Nintendo consistently keeps its first-party games exclusive to its own hardware. The series has never appeared on a non-Nintendo platform, and there is no indication that strategy will change for this release.

So if you want to play Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, you need either a Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, or Nintendo Switch 2.

What Is Different on Nintendo Switch 2?

If you own a Nintendo Switch 2, the game runs as a backwards-compatible Switch 1 title. You will notice:

  • Faster loading times compared to the original Switch
  • Smoother overall performance
  • 1080p resolution in handheld mode, which is a notable upgrade since the Switch 1 caps handheld output at 720p

The software content itself remains identical across both systems. There are no exclusive features or additional content on Switch 2.

Can You Try the Game Before Buying?

Yes. Nintendo released a free demo called Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream – Welcome Version, available now on the Nintendo eShop. The demo lets you create up to three Mii characters and explore the core gameplay systems before committing to a purchase.

Two things worth knowing about the demo:

  • Your save data carries over to the full game upon purchase, so any progress you make in the demo gives you a head start
  • Completing the demo unlocks a Hamster Costume for your Mii characters, which also carries over to the full game (note: the Hamster Costume is also obtainable through regular play in the full game)

What Does the Game Actually Offer?

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a life simulation game where you populate an island with Mii characters based on real people or original creations, then watch their lives unfold in ways that range from heartwarming to completely absurd. Key features confirmed in the full release include:

  • Mii creation with an expanded character customisation system, including new hair options, secondary hair colours, and detailed facial features
  • 16 personality types assigned through adjustable sliders, each shaping how your Mii behaves and interacts
  • Relationship systems covering friendships, rivalries, romance, marriage, and families
  • Island building tools for designing homes, shops, paths, and community spaces
  • The Palette House, where you can design custom clothing, food, pets, and items from scratch
  • MiiNews, a daily broadcast reporting on events happening across your island
  • Pronoun and dating preference settings, giving players more inclusive customisation options than the original game offered

A Note on Sharing Features

One confirmed limitation worth knowing before you buy: sharing Mii characters and Palette House creations is restricted to local wireless only. There is no online Mii sharing between players, which represents a step back from the QR code system the Nintendo 3DS version used. If sharing creations with friends online is important to you, this is a factor to weigh before purchasing.

The Short Answer

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a Nintendo Switch exclusive. It will not come to PC, and no announcement suggests that will change. You can purchase the game via the Nintendo eShop for $59.99, try it first with the free demo, and play it on Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, or Nintendo Switch 2.
