What Does ARIRANG Mean?

The album title carries deep cultural significance. ARIRANG takes its name from a traditional Korean folk song that has become one of the most powerful symbols of Korean identity and resilience, passed down through generations as an expression of longing, separation, and eventual reunion. For BTS, the title represents both a return to their roots and a reflection of the group’s evolution following nearly four years of solo projects and military service.

RM spoke about the album’s meaning in the group’s first interview since reuniting:

“We all treasure BTS more than we treasure each one of us separately. We debuted as a group, so I think that’s the core identity that we have.”

The Lead Single: SWIM

The lead single SWIM centres on the resolve to keep moving forward despite life’s turbulent waves. Produced by Tyler Spry and Leclair, the track frames choosing to move ahead at your own pace as an expression of love for life itself. With RM leading the songwriting alongside a strong team of collaborators, the track carries a message of perseverance that connects directly with the group’s own journey of separation and reunion across the military service period.

The Notable Producers Behind ARIRANG

ARIRANG brings together one of the most impressive production rosters ever assembled for a K-pop album. Here is a breakdown of the key collaborators and their confirmed contributions:

Diplo appears across five tracks including the opener “Body to Body” and the closer “Into the Sun.” The electronic music pioneer behind Major Lazer previously worked with Jung Kook on “Closer To You” from the GOLDEN solo album and most recently produced BLACKPINK’s comeback single “JUMP.”

Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, known globally for his production work with Beyoncé and Adele, contributed to “Body to Body,” “SWIM,” “NORMAL,” and “Please.” Tedder has extensive K-pop experience, having previously worked with BLACKPINK on “The Girls,” BTS member Jimin on “Be Mine,” TOMORROW X TOGETHER, KATSEYE, and &TEAM.

Kevin Parker of Tame Impala brings his distinctive psychedelic production style to “Merry Go Round.”

Flume, the Australian electronic producer, contributes alongside Diplo and NITTI on “FYA.”

Mike WiLL Made-It, known for producing Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” and Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop,” produced “Aliens” and “2.0.”

JPEGMAFIA, the experimental rapper and producer, joins the lineup as a songwriter on “FYA.”

El Guincho, the Spanish electronic artist, helms “Hooligan” alongside Fakeguido and Jasper Harris.

Pdogg, BTS’s longtime collaborator, remains instrumental across six tracks, ensuring continuity with the group’s signature sound while the new collaborators push creative boundaries in fresh directions.

Member Songwriting Credits

All seven members played an active role in the creative direction of ARIRANG. The following breakdown reflects confirmed songwriting credits from the official credits teaser released by BigHit Music:

  • RM – confirmed songwriter on 13 of 14 tracks, all except the interlude “No. 29”
  • SUGA – confirmed songwriter on 10 tracks
  • j-hope – confirmed songwriter on 9 tracks
  • Jung Kook – confirmed songwriter on 5 tracks including “Hooligan,” “FYA,” “2.0,” and “Aliens”
  • V – confirmed songwriter on “2.0” and “Into the Sun”
  • Jimin – confirmed songwriter on “They Don’t Know ‘Bout Us” and “Into the Sun”
  • Jin – songwriting credits to be fully confirmed with complete album release

Netflix Comeback Live Trailer Drops Tomorrow

The excitement surrounding ARIRANG is not limited to the album itself. On the morning of March 4 KST, Netflix posted a teaser across its official social media channels announcing that the full trailer for BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE|ARIRANG will go live on March 5. The short clip features all seven members — RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook — posing with props bearing phrases like “Trailer Tomorrow” and “BTS,” dancing together, and joining in a lighthearted round of the classic Korean children’s game Red Light, Green Light. Their global smash hit “Dynamite” plays throughout, setting an upbeat, celebratory tone.

The Netflix livestream of the comeback concert will reach audiences across more than 190 countries and regions, and notably marks the first time the platform has broadcast a solo artist concert live on a global scale.

Diplo Calls ARIRANG The “Craziest Album Ever”

One of the most talked-about moments surrounding ARIRANG came from producer Diplo, who confirmed his involvement at the 2026 Fanatics Super Bowl Party on February 7, 2026. Speaking to TMZ at San Francisco’s Pier 48, the 47-year-old producer described working with BTS as the biggest project of his three-decade career and predicted the album would shock the world.

Diplo confirmed that he worked hands-on in the studio with all seven members and specifically praised Jung Kook’s vocal ability, noting that the singer required no AutoTune and brought a natural, flawless quality to his recordings. He described the group as genuinely creative and hands-on throughout the production process rather than simply showing up and performing what others prepared for them.

ARIRANG Has Already Broken Pre-Order Records

Before a single track from ARIRANG officially released, the album secured over four million pre-orders, a figure that Diplo himself described as potentially the biggest pre-sale of all time. This achievement reflects BTS’s continued global dominance even after their extended hiatus and sets ARIRANG up as one of the most commercially significant album releases of 2026.

How ARIRANG Was Made

The group spent two months living together in Los Angeles while creating the album, working six days a week in a routine RM described as “like businessmen.” They trained together in the mornings, returned home for lunch, and reported to the studio by early afternoon to work with various songwriters and producers through the evening. The process reminded them of their trainee days, now framed by a decade of global achievements that include record-breaking sales and billions of streams.

During their hiatus, each member released solo projects that highlighted their individual artistry. ARIRANG brings all of those distinct creative voices together into a single cohesive statement about who BTS has become as a group.

The Gwanghwamun Comeback Concert

BTS will celebrate the ARIRANG release with a free comeback concert titled BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG on March 21, 2026 at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. The concert marks the first time in three years and nine months that BTS will perform stages from a new album anywhere in the world.

The performance will last approximately one hour. HYBE confirmed this duration in consideration of the outdoor public setting, audience safety management, and crowd control requirements. When general ticket reservations opened on February 23, all 13,000 tickets sold out instantly with a waiting queue that reportedly reached 100,000 people. Police estimate that 230,000 to 260,000 people could gather across the broader Gwanghwamun area on the night of the concert. Event organizers are also reportedly discussing plans to install large screens near Seoul Plaza to accommodate additional attendees.

Fans outside South Korea can watch the concert live through Netflix, which will stream the event globally.
