Is Killing Floor 2 Crossplay?

Killing Floor 2 has held its ground for years as a cooperative shooter that thrives on teamwork, timing, and raw chaos. Since the game centers entirely on multiplayer action, one question keeps returning for both new and returning players: can you play Killing Floor 2 with friends across different platforms?

The short answer sounds encouraging at first, but the full picture deserves a closer look. Crossplay exists in Killing Floor 2, though it comes with firm boundaries that shape how and where you can team up.

Killing Floor 2 Crossplay Support

Killing Floor 2 supports partial crossplay, not full cross-platform freedom. The game allows players on PC to connect across different PC storefronts, but it does not bridge the gap between consoles or between PC and console ecosystems.

Here is how crossplay currently works:

  • PC crossplay: Supported between Steam and Epic Games Store
  • Console crossplay: Not supported between PlayStation and Xbox
  • PC to console: Not supported

If you and your friends play on PC but use different launchers, you can still fight side by side. If one of you plays on console and the other on PC, the game does not offer a way to connect.

How Steam and Epic Games Players Can Play Together

Crossplay between Steam and Epic Games Store works thanks to Epic Online Services integration. This system connects players across PC platforms without splitting the player base.

To play together, both players need Epic Games accounts. Even if you launch Killing Floor 2 through Steam, you can link an Epic account and use it to manage cross-platform invites.

Once linked, you can:

  • Add friends through Epic Games
  • Send and receive party invites across Steam and Epic
  • Use cross-platform voice chat within matches

The process stays simple and does not require buying the game twice or switching launchers.

Playing With Friends on the Same Platform

If all of you play on the same platform, the most reliable way to stay together involves creating a private match. This approach gives you full control over who joins and keeps random players from filling open slots.

You can set this up directly from the main menu:

  1. Open the Permissions panel
  2. Select the Private: Passworded option
  3. Create and remember a password
  4. Create the party
  5. Invite your friends and share the password

Once everyone joins, you can start an online match together and focus on surviving waves instead of coordinating invites mid-game.

Why Console Crossplay Does Not Exist

Killing Floor 2 launched before cross-platform play became an industry standard. Technical differences between console networks and platform policies created long-standing barriers that Tripwire Interactive never removed for this title.

While Epic Online Services solved many PC-side limitations, consoles still operate within separate ecosystems. As a result, PlayStation and Xbox players remain locked to their respective platforms.

What the Future Might Hold

Killing Floor 2 continues to attract an active community years after release. That longevity keeps crossplay discussions alive, though no official plans confirm expanded console support.

The upcoming Killing Floor III, scheduled for release in 2025, brings renewed hope. Modern multiplayer expectations often include full cross-platform play from day one. If the developers build on lessons learned from Killing Floor 2, broader crossplay could finally become standard.
