If you’ve reached the Vineyard in Graveyard Keeper 2, unlocked the Orchard and grabbed your first Garden upgrade, there’s a good chance you’ve hit one particularly annoying roadblock: where the heck does the Vine Press actually go?

The answer is easy to miss because the game puts the Vineyard’s farming activities and drink-production facilities in two different areas. The Vine Press does not belong in the outdoor Vineyard, including the spots around the beehives and vine trellises.

Instead, you need to head into the Vineyard Basement. That underground area has its own building desk, and that’s where you can construct the Vine Press alongside other drink-processing stations.

So, if you’re standing beside the beehives wondering why the game refuses to give you a place for your press, you’re not looking in the right spot. Here’s exactly how to reach it, unlock the technology, gather the materials, and start turning your fruit into juice.

Where to Build the Vine Press in Graveyard Keeper 2

The Vine Press is built inside the Vineyard Basement, not outside beside the beehives or vine trellises.

The Vineyard itself is located west of your house, across the broken bridge. Once you have repaired that bridge, getting to the correct production area is straightforward.

Follow these steps:

1. Travel west from your house toward the Vineyard.
2. Cross the broken bridge after repairing it.
3. Enter the Vineyard.
4. Find the cellar entrance.
5. Go downstairs into the Vineyard Basement.
6. Locate the building desk inside.
7. Select the Vine Press from the available building options.
8. Place it in the designated basement building space.
9. Finish constructing it with a Hammer.

That outdoor-versus-underground distinction is the big thing to remember.

The outdoor Vineyard is focused on growing and maintaining vineyard-related resources. The basement is the dedicated production zone where you process drinks.

Why the Beehive Area Is So Confusing

A recent Steam discussion shows exactly how easy it is to misunderstand the layout.

One player found the special area west of the house behind the broken bridge and noticed that the available outdoor spot seemed to be intended only for a beehive. They asked whether something needed to be unlocked.

Another player pointed them toward the building entrance above the beehive area:

“the door just above where you place the beehives. That door is not locked enter it and you can build there. I tought I need to unlock it, but never checked if the door was looked and to my surprise it was not locked.”

The original poster then confirmed the location:

“Yeah, the obvious building right above the beehive spot….”

So there’s the answer: don’t try to force the Vine Press into the outdoor beehive slot.

If you’ve reached the beehives, look for the building entrance directly above that area, head inside, and go down into the Vineyard Basement.

How to Reach the Vineyard Basement

Before you can make that trip, you need access to the Vineyard itself.

The Vineyard is directly west of your main home, but the bridge connecting the areas initially needs to be repaired.

You need:

Once the bridge is repaired, cross it and enter the Vineyard.

Importantly, you do not need to clear the underground passages connecting the Vineyard Basement to the wider underground network just to begin using the cellar. The basement can be entered directly from the Vineyard.

That means you can get to the production area without first tackling the broader underground routes.

How to Unlock the Vine Press

Finding the correct room is only half the battle. You also need the technology that unlocks the station.

The Vine Press is tied to Cold Pressing, which costs 20 green Technology points and requires Orchardry.

The progression is:

Orchardry → Cold Pressing → Vine Press

Orchardry itself costs 20 green Technology points and unlocks the Orchard and Apple Tree building options.

Once Cold Pressing is unlocked, the Vine Press becomes available from the Vineyard Basement building desk.

So, if you’ve reached the basement and the Vine Press still isn’t showing up, don’t immediately assume you’re standing in the wrong place. Check your technology progression first.

Vine Press Construction Materials

Once the Vine Press is available, you’ll need the required materials and construction level.

The current station data lists:

Wooden Beam	4
Iron Detail	8

You also need:

• Hammer
• Building Mastery 4

The materials are paid when you place the construction frame. After that, you finish building the station with the required tool.

So if you’ve found the correct basement, unlocked Cold Pressing, and still can’t finish the Vine Press, check Building Mastery 4, your materials, and your Hammer before blaming the location.

What Does the Vine Press Make?

This is where the station starts becoming seriously useful.

The Vine Press isn’t limited to grapes. Once the appropriate recipes are unlocked, it can process several kinds of fruit into juice.

The current recipe list includes:

The grape recipes are quality-dependent, so higher-quality grapes can be turned into higher-quality juice when the relevant recipe progression is available.

And yes, that means the press has a use beyond simply processing the grapes growing around your Vineyard.

Don’t Forget the Empty Bottles

There’s one easy-to-miss requirement when you finally start pressing fruit: you need an Empty Bottle for every juice batch.

The standard structure is:

6 relevant fruit + 1 Empty Bottle → 1 Juice

For example:

6 Apples + 1 Empty Bottle → 1 Apple Juice

The same six-fruit-and-one-bottle structure applies to the berry and grape juice recipes, with the required Farming Mastery changing according to the recipe.

So before you load up the Vine Press with fruit, make sure you have enough Empty Bottles ready.

Outdoor Vineyard vs. Vineyard Basement

Once you know what each area is for, the layout becomes much easier to remember.

Outside: Grow and Maintain

The outdoor Vineyard is where you handle:

• Vine Trellises
• Grapes
• Hops
• Beehives
• Vineyard-related upgrades

The Vine Trellis is a separate outdoor construction. It requires the Vineyard technology and is used to grow grapes and hops.

This is why the outdoor area can look like the obvious place for the Vine Press. You’re surrounded by vineyard-related objects, but the actual processing stations are moved underground.

Below: Process and Produce

The Vineyard Basement is the dedicated drink-production area.

Its stations include:

• Vine Press
• Fermentation Barrel
• Brewing Stand
• Wine Barrel

Think of it as two connected halves of the same production system:

Outside = grow the ingredients

Basement = process the ingredients

Once you see the Vineyard this way, the Vine Press location makes a lot more sense.

Vine Press and Wine Production

The Vine Press can also become part of a larger production chain if you’re working toward wine.

For wine production, the basic flow is:

Grapes → Vine Press → Grape Juice → Wine Barrel → Wine

The Wine Barrel has its own technology requirement and is also built inside the Vineyard Basement.

The Fermentation Barrel is another basement station, but it serves a different purpose: it is used for cider-related recipes, rather than being the station where wine is produced.

So don’t confuse the two when you start expanding your drink-production setup.

Can’t Find the Vineyard Basement? Check These Things

If you’ve crossed the bridge and still can’t figure out where the Vine Press is supposed to go, run through this checklist:

1. Is the bridge repaired?
The Vineyard is reached by crossing the bridge west of your house. You need to repair it first.

2. Did you actually enter the Vineyard?
Don’t stop at the outdoor building spots around the beehives. The Vine Press is not placed there.

3. Did you find the cellar entrance?
The Vineyard Basement is accessed directly from the Vineyard.

4. Is Cold Pressing unlocked?
The Vine Press is tied to Cold Pressing, which requires Orchardry.

5. Do you have the construction materials?
You need 6 Wooden Planks, 4 Wooden Beams, and 8 Iron Details.

6. Do you have Building Mastery 4?
The materials alone aren’t enough to bypass the construction requirement.

7. Are you using the basement building desk?
The Vine Press is selected from the building desk inside the basement rather than placed freely in the outdoor Vineyard.

The Fast Answer: Where Does the Vine Press Go?

If you’re standing beside the beehives west of your house, you’re already incredibly close to the answer.

Do not build the Vine Press in the outdoor beehive area.

Instead, find the building entrance directly above the beehive spot, enter it, head into the Vineyard Basement, and use the building desk to construct the Vine Press.

To unlock it, you need Orchardry and then Cold Pressing. Orchardry costs 20 green Technology points, while Cold Pressing costs another 20 green Technology points and requires Orchardry.

Once it’s up and running, the Vine Press can turn apples, berries, blueberries, and different qualities of grapes into juice. Every juice batch requires 6 pieces of the relevant fruit and 1 Empty Bottle, while the required Farming Mastery varies depending on the recipe.

And if you’re building toward wine, the Vine Press is only the beginning of the chain:

Grapes → Grape Juice → Wine Barrel → Wine

The Vineyard Basement is therefore much more than a hidden room. It’s the production hub for the drink side of your Vineyard, while the outdoor area remains focused on growing and maintaining your crops and beehives.
