Control Resonant Central Laundromat Puzzle Solution: Washing Machine Code and Health Upgrade

Published on

In-game note from Control Resonant showing the seven-row binary puzzle for the Central laundromat washing machines.

The Central laundromat in Control Resonant is hiding one of the game’s optional Secret Hideouts, but getting through the front door is only the beginning. Once you clear the Hiss blockade outside, you’ll discover a bizarre note filled with seven rows of 0 and 1. At first glance, it looks like some kind of binary-code puzzle.

Thankfully, it isn’t.

The note is actually giving you a direct blueprint for the washing machines inside the laundromat. A 0 means the corresponding machine needs to be off, while a 1 means it needs to be on. Recreate all seven rows correctly and a hidden passage opens, leading to a Health Upgrade Point and additional documents that expand the game’s environmental storytelling.

Where to find the Central laundromat puzzle

The puzzle is inside the WEAR’EM & WASH’EM laundromat in the Central region.

You’ll find the building around the large plaza in Central, close to the Field Office and Last Park Station. The entrance can initially look inaccessible because a Hiss blockade is covering the area.

Look for the red tendrils and floating debris around the blocked entrance. These trails lead away from the laundromat toward the Hiss sources creating the barrier.

Your first job is to follow those trails and destroy three Hiss nodes.

Two of the nodes are protected by Hiss enemies, so expect some combat along the way. Once all three nodes have been destroyed, the blockade disappears and you can finally enter the laundromat.

More Game Guides: Dialing in your combat settings can make encounters like the Hiss nodes guarding this puzzle a lot more manageable. For more, check out our guide on customizing every part of combat in Control Resonant’s Assist Mode.

The washing machine puzzle itself doesn’t require a specific character strength level.

The enemies surrounding the Hiss nodes are the bigger concern. The original guide recommends around Aberrant Strength 30-35 as a comfortable point for dealing with the encounters, but this is a gameplay recommendation rather than an official minimum requirement. You can attempt the area earlier if you’re confident in your combat ability.

With all three nodes destroyed, head back to the laundromat and the entrance will be accessible.

How the washing machine puzzle works

Once inside, you’ll find multiple rows of washing machines. Some can be interacted with and switched between their on and off states.

At the back of the building, check the bulletin board. You’ll find two pieces of information there:

  • A customer complaint about malfunctioning machines.
  • The important note containing the seven-row sequence of 0s and 1s.

The code is:

0001000

001100

100001

000000

000000

000000

100000

Here’s the important part: don’t treat these as conventional binary numbers.

Each row represents a row of washing machines.

  • 0 = machine OFF
  • 1 = machine ON

Your goal is simply to make the machines match the pattern shown on the note.

Control Resonant Washing Machine puzzle solution

Before you start, it’s useful to switch off machines that are already running. That gives you a clean starting point and makes checking the arrangement much easier.

Then reproduce the seven rows below.

Row 1 โ€” 0001000

Turn on the middle washing machine.

The first three machines stay off, the fourth machine is on, and the final three stay off.

Pattern:

0001000

So the arrangement is:

OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ ON โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF

Row 2 โ€” 001100

Turn on the two middle washing machines.

The first two remain off, the third and fourth are on, and the final two remain off.

Pattern:

001100

Row 3 โ€” 100001

Turn on the first and last machines.

Every machine between them remains off.

Pattern:

100001

This means:

ON โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ ON

Row 4 โ€” 000000

Leave every machine off.

000000

Row 5 โ€” 000000

Again, leave every machine off.

000000

Row 6 โ€” 000000

The sixth row follows the same setup. Keep all machines off.

000000

Row 7 โ€” 100000

Turn on the first machine on the left.

All remaining machines stay off.

100000

Once the complete seven-row arrangement matches the note, the puzzle triggers automatically.

3100001Turn on the first and last machines
4000000Turn all machines off
5000000Turn all machines off
6000000Turn all machines off

More Difficulty Customization Tips: If the Hiss encounters outside the laundromat feel tougher than expected, tweaking your settings can help even the odds. For more, check out our guide on customizing every part of combat in Control Resonant’s Assist Mode.

Do you need to activate the machines in a specific order?

No. The game doesn’t require you to switch the machines on or off in a particular sequence.

What matters is the final configuration.

So, accidentally activated the wrong machine? No problem. Turn it back off and continue setting up the pattern.

The puzzle checks the finished arrangement rather than the order in which you interact with the machines.

The easiest method is to work systematically from the first row to the seventh instead of trying to set everything simultaneously.

The biggest mistake players can make

The easiest way to overcomplicate this puzzle is to assume the numbers are asking you to perform actual binary conversion.

They aren’t.

You don’t need to convert 0001000, 001100, or 100001 into decimal values. The numbers are basically acting as visual switch instructions.

Think of them like this:

0 = OFF

1 = ON

So:

0001000

means:

OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ ON โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF

And:

100001

means:

ON โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ OFF โ†’ ON

Once you look at the note this way, the puzzle becomes much more straightforward.

What happens after solving the puzzle?

When every washing machine is in the correct state, a hidden passage opens in the back section of the laundromat.

Go through the newly revealed route and follow the staircase downstairs.

The secret area contains a room with several beds and a Health Upgrade Point chest. That’s the main gameplay reward for completing the optional puzzle.

You’ll also find two files/documents in the hidden area. They provide additional information about the shelter and its rules, giving you more context for the location and Control Resonant’s environmental storytelling.

The documents aren’t required for progression, but they’re worth grabbing if you’re interested in the game’s lore and worldbuilding.

After collecting the Health Upgrade and documents, there’s nothing else you need to solve. You can simply head back upstairs and continue exploring Central.

Quick solution for the Central laundromat

Already cleared the Hiss blockade and just need the combination? Here’s the entire solution:

  1. Row 1: Turn on the middle machine.
  2. Row 2: Turn on the two middle machines.
  3. Row 3: Turn on the first and last machines.
  4. Row 4: Turn every machine off.
  5. Row 5: Turn every machine off.
  6. Row 6: Turn every machine off.
  7. Row 7: Turn on the first machine on the left.

The final pattern is:

0001000

001100

100001

000000

000000

000000

100000

Match that configuration and the hidden passage will open.

More Multi-Ending Guides: Puzzles with a single correct configuration are one thing, but some games branch into entirely different outcomes depending on your choices. For more, read our guide on The Blood of Dawnwalker’s all endings, covering how to unlock every possible outcome.

Control Resonant Central laundromat puzzle explained

The Central laundromat puzzle is a neat example of Control Resonant turning an ordinary environment into an optional gameplay challenge. Instead of handing players a standard keypad combination, the game hides the answer in plain sight through a strange-looking sequence of numbers and the machines themselves.

The only real hurdle before reaching the puzzle is the Hiss blockade. Destroy the three Hiss nodes outside the laundromat, deal with the enemies guarding two of them, and the entrance becomes accessible.

From there, the solution is simply about reading the note correctly: 0 means off and 1 means on.

Set the seven rows to:

0001000

001100

100001

000000

000000

000000

100000

The passage then opens, giving you access to the Health Upgrade Point and two documents inside the Secret Hideout.

For a puzzle that initially looks like it demands some serious code-cracking, the actual trick is much simpler: the washing machines are the code.
