Core Keeper thrives on shared discovery. Digging into the depths feels better with friends, which makes one question especially important before you buy the game on different systems. Is Core Keeper cross platform?

The answer depends on where you play. This guide explains exactly how Core Keeper handles crossplay, which platforms can connect, and what limits you need to plan around before starting a world together.

Core Keeper Cross Platform

Core Keeper does not support full cross platform play across all systems.

You cannot play together across different platform families such as PC and Nintendo Switch, or Xbox and Switch. The game only allows crossplay within the same ecosystem or network framework.

How Core Keeper Crossplay Actually Works

Core Keeper uses a limited form of crossplay that focuses on shared infrastructure rather than full platform freedom.

Here is how it breaks down in practice.

PC to PC Crossplay

PC players can play together across supported PC storefronts. Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG users can join the same worlds. This setup works because all versions run on the same PC networking layer.

If you play on PC, you do not need to worry about which store your friends used.

Xbox and PC Game Pass

Core Keeper allows crossplay between Xbox consoles and PC players using Xbox Game Pass. This works through Microsoft’s shared network services.

If you play on PC Game Pass, you can host or join worlds with friends on Xbox One or Xbox Series consoles.

Console Families Stay Isolated

PlayStation players can play with other PlayStation players across console generations. Xbox players can play with other Xbox players. Nintendo Switch players can only play with Switch users.

These groups do not connect to each other.

What Does Not Work

Several combinations remain unsupported.

You cannot play Core Keeper between PC and Nintendo Switch. You cannot connect PlayStation players with Xbox players. Switch users remain completely isolated from other platforms.

If your group splits across different console brands, Core Keeper will not bridge that gap.

Why Core Keeper Uses Limited Crossplay?

Core Keeper launched during a period when cross platform play still required heavy backend compromises. Each console platform enforces its own certification rules, network requirements, and update pipelines.

Rather than force one system onto another, the developers chose stability and performance within each ecosystem. This approach avoids desync issues and keeps updates rolling out smoothly on every platform.

Is Full Cross Platform Support Planned?

As of now, the developers have not confirmed plans for full cross platform play between all systems.

Community discussions show ongoing interest in broader crossplay, especially between PC and consoles. Updates so far focus on content, balance, and technical polish rather than major networking changes.

If full crossplay ever arrives, it would likely require a major infrastructure shift rather than a simple patch.

Should You Buy Core Keeper for Multiplayer?

If you and your friends play on the same platform family, Core Keeper offers a smooth and enjoyable co-op experience. PC players enjoy the most flexibility, especially with cross store support and Game Pass integration.

If your group spans PC and Switch or mixes console brands, Core Keeper will not meet that need right now. In that case, choosing the same platform matters more than anything else.
