Baghead has one of the weirdest side quests in Mortal Shell 2, and that is exactly what makes it so memorable. Forget hunting down a terrifying boss or collecting some legendary treasure. This mysterious NPC basically wants you to sit around, find a bottle of Special Moonshine, and thenโafter all that effortโgive him nothing.
The quest can be surprisingly easy to mess up because Baghead never directly tells you what his strange test actually means. You will need to follow his clues, spend some time sitting with his followers, find the Special Moonshine, and then resist the obvious choice of handing it over. Yes, the game really sends you on a mini adventure just to teach you the value of having nothing.
If you complete the conversations and choices correctly, you will trigger Baghead’s secret ending and unlock his hidden achievement/trophy. Here’s exactly how to complete the Baghead quest in Mortal Shell 2 without getting trapped by its deliberately confusing clues.

Where to Find Baghead in Mortal Shell 2
Baghead is located in Desolate Peaks, an area of Fainweald. You will find the mysterious NPC sitting on a throne overlooking a chasm, surrounded by several of his followers.
To reach him, begin at the Gloomshade Grove Beacon and travel south. Eventually, you will come across a jump teleporter that takes you to the island where Baghead is waiting.

Once you reach the throne, speak with Baghead and exhaust his dialogue. At some point, he will tell you to sit and be quiet.
That is your first major clue that this is definitely not going to be a normal quest.

How to Complete Baghead’s Nothing Test
Sit With Baghead’s Followers
When Baghead tells you to sit, head over to his followers and sit beside them. Stay there for a few seconds before getting back up.
Then return to Baghead and speak with him again. He will ask whether you think you are any different after sitting around and doing nothing.
Choose Yes.

Baghead will then continue hinting that he is searching for something special, sending you toward the next part of his bizarre test.
Find the Special Moonshine
Fortunately, the Special Moonshine isn’t hidden somewhere far away.
Turn away from Baghead and search for the nearby table or wooden crate close to the Illusionist’s Cache. The Special Moonshine can be found there.
Pick it up and take it back to Baghead.
Do Not Give Baghead the Special Moonshine
This is the part where the quest completely flips the script.
Baghead will question whether you really believe the Special Moonshine is what he wants. Continue through the dialogue, but do not give him the Moonshine.
Instead, take the Special Moonshine back to the exact spot where you originally found it and return it there.
Yes, seriously.
You were sent to find the bottle only to put it straight back. That is not a mistake or a wasted step. It is the entire point of Baghead’s test.
After returning the Moonshine to its original location, go back to Baghead and speak with him again. He will ask whether you have returned with nothing.
Choose Yes.
Continue through the remaining dialogue and confirm the final responses. Baghead will eventually realize that you have understood what he was trying to teach you.
He wanted nothing.

What Happens After You Complete Baghead’s Quest?
Once you have completed the test, speak with Baghead again. A special cutscene will play, giving the quest its wonderfully pointless conclusion.
Baghead bestows his throne of nothing upon you, marking the completion of his strange test.

The quest also does not end your playthrough. You can continue playing Mortal Shell 2 normally after completing Baghead’s storyline.
Companion Bond Watch: Not every reward for sticking with an NPC comes in the form of gear, sometimes it’s the relationship itself that pays off. For more, check out our guide on maxing your Koo Rapport in Beast of Reincarnation to unlock the Closest Companion trophy.
What Is the Baghead Quest Reward?
Don’t expect Baghead to hand you a powerful weapon, upgrade material, or another conventional gameplay reward.
Instead, completing the quest unlocks the hidden Baghead achievement/trophy. Its description perfectly matches the joke behind the entire quest:
“You’ve mastered nothing and this is your reward. Pretty pointless, eh?”
You also get the secret Baghead ending, which is the real payoff for following his bizarre instructions all the way to the end.
Curio Tracker: Oddball rewards tucked behind strange NPC interactions have a way of becoming the most memorable finds in a game. For more, read our guide on tracking down the Starmie Doll in Pokรฉmon Pokopia, including the Frillish quest and Phione’s location.
Baghead Quest Dialogue Choices You Need to Remember
If you want the short version while playing, keep these choices and actions in mind:
- Sit with Baghead’s followers when Baghead tells you to sit.
- Choose Yes when Baghead asks whether you are any different.
- Pick up the Special Moonshine near the Illusionist’s Cache.
- Do not give the Special Moonshine to Baghead.
- Return the Moonshine to the exact location where you found it.
- Return to Baghead and choose Yes when he asks whether you have nothing.
- Continue through the final dialogue to trigger the secret ending.
The most important detail is that the Special Moonshine is a red herring. Baghead doesn’t actually want the bottle. The entire point is for you to understand that the answer to his increasingly strange questions is, quite literally, nothing.
