Spotlight Hours had taken a brief break earlier in 2026 before returning in June, and they have continued with their regular Thursday schedule.

August 6: Delibird brings a huge Stardust opportunity
The month kicks off with Delibird, and this one is a big deal if your Stardust reserves are looking painfully low.
The featured bonus is 2× Catch Stardust, and Delibird already gives 500 Stardust per catch. That makes this Spotlight Hour one of the strongest Stardust-farming opportunities in August.
If you’re serious about maximizing the haul, activate a Star Piece before the event starts. You can also benefit even more if weather conditions boost Delibird spawns, giving you another chance to build up your Stardust reserves.
Basically, if you’re saving Stardust for powering up Pokémon or other expensive upgrades, this is the hour you don’t want to sleep on.

August 13: Wurmple turns your saved Pokémon into XP
Next up is Wurmple, with 2× Evolution XP active throughout the Spotlight Hour.
This is where your Pokémon storage can suddenly become your XP bank.
If you’ve been holding onto Pokémon specifically for evolution, August 13 is the perfect time to start burning through that backlog. Evolving multiple Pokémon while the bonus is active can give you a serious experience boost and help you level up faster.
Wurmple also has a fun twist of its own. Its evolution can go in two different directions, becoming either Silcoon or Cascoon, depending on its hidden personality value.
So while you’re farming Evolution XP, you can also enjoy the unpredictability of Wurmple’s evolution path.
Speaking of games, Nintendo fans have their own reason to get excited this month too. Word has come out that a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is heading to Switch 2 in 2026. Read our story: Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026
August 20: Magikarp takes over Spotlight Hour
The third event puts the spotlight on one of Pokémon’s most iconic creatures: Magikarp.
This time, the bonus is 2× Catch XP, making August 20 another excellent opportunity for trainers focused on leveling up.
Magikarp is easy to catch consistently, which makes the event particularly useful for collecting large amounts of experience during the one-hour window.
And there’s another obvious bonus: Magikarp Candy.
If you’re still working toward evolving Magikarp into Gyarados, this Spotlight Hour gives you a great opportunity to stock up on Candy while earning extra XP. Considering how iconic Gyarados is, this is a pretty satisfying double win.

August 27: Mankey closes out the month with extra Candy
The final Spotlight Hour of August features Mankey, along with 2× Catch Candy.
If you’re trying to evolve Mankey or build up your Fighting-type collection, this is the event to circle on your calendar.
The extra Candy can help you evolve Mankey into Primeape and eventually Annihilape. However, reaching Annihilape also requires meeting the additional Rage Fist evolution requirement.
That makes the event particularly useful for trainers working toward their Pokédex or strengthening their Fighting-type teams.

How to get the most out of August’s Spotlight Hours
Spotlight Hour only lasts for 60 minutes, so going in prepared can make a huge difference.
Before the event starts, clear enough Pokémon storage space to avoid constantly stopping to transfer Pokémon. You should also make sure you have plenty of Poké Balls, because nothing kills the momentum faster than running out of catches halfway through the hour.
If you’re playing somewhere with fewer natural spawns, consider using Incense to increase your encounter opportunities.
For the Delibird Spotlight Hour on August 6, a Star Piece is particularly valuable because of the 2× Catch Stardust bonus. If weather conditions boost Delibird spawns, you’ll have an even stronger opportunity to increase your Stardust reserves.
And remember: Spotlight Hour follows your device’s local time. Wherever you’re playing, the event runs from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time.

Don’t expect boosted shiny odds
Yes, shiny versions of the featured Pokémon can appear when their shiny forms have already been released. However, there’s an important detail every shiny hunter should remember: Spotlight Hour does not increase shiny encounter rates.
So if you’re chasing a shiny Delibird, Wurmple, Magikarp, or Mankey, you’ll get far more encounters during the event, but the shiny odds themselves are not boosted.
That means the best strategy is simple: catch as many of the featured Pokémon as possible during the hour and hope the shiny luck finally decides to cooperate.

August Spotlight Hours keep the weekly action moving
Spotlight Hour isn’t happening in isolation. These weekly events continue alongside other recurring Pokémon GO activities, including Raid Hour and Max Monday.
With Stardust, XP, and Candy bonuses rotating throughout August, trainers have multiple opportunities to stock up on useful resources while hunting the month’s featured Pokémon.
Whether you’re chasing levels, saving Stardust, collecting Candy, working toward evolutions, or simply hunting for a shiny, each August Spotlight Hour offers something different.
Just remember the schedule: Delibird on August 6, Wurmple on August 13, Magikarp on August 20, and Mankey on August 27.
Set your reminders, prepare your inventory, and when 6:00 p.m. hits, it’s time to catch.
