If youโ€™ve been waiting for Nintendo to finally bring The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time back in a completely rebuilt form, thereโ€™s some seriously good news: the remake is still scheduled for 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo has once again included The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in its official first-party software roadmap. The confirmation comes from the companyโ€™s Financial Results Explanatory Material for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2027, covering the Aprilโ€“June 2026 period and published on August 6, 2026.

And yes, Nintendo’s wording is pretty clear. The company says Ocarina of Timeis also scheduled to be released this year.” So, unless something changes later, the legendary adventure remains firmly on Nintendoโ€™s 2026 release calendar.

The only thing weโ€™re still missing is the date. Nintendo hasnโ€™t revealed an exact launch day, price, preorder information, special editions, or detailed gameplay footage yet. But with the release window being reaffirmed in an official financial report, the remake is looking very realโ€”and very much alive.

Nintendo just gave Ocarina of Time fans another reason to get hyped

Nintendoโ€™s latest financial presentation lists The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time among its previously announced first-party Nintendo Switch 2 games planned for future release.

The game appears alongside other upcoming titles, including Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, which is scheduled for September, and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, arriving in October.

The important part is Nintendoโ€™s direct statement that Ocarina of Time is scheduled to release this year. That means the company has once again kept the remake inside its 2026 roadmap, with no indication in the report that it has been pushed into 2027.

Thereโ€™s another interesting detail here, too. Nintendo specifically explains that the software lineup shown in the report contains previously announced first-party Nintendo Switch 2 titles. In other words, this list isn’t meant to reveal every game Nintendo might have coming. Any unannounced projects simply aren’t represented.

For Ocarina of Time, though, the message is straightforward: 2026 is still the target.

The remake first appeared during Nintendo Direct in June

Nintendo officially revealed the remake during its Nintendo Direct presentation on June 9, 2026.

The announcement immediately grabbed attention because Nintendo wasn’t simply presenting the Nintendo 64 classic as another port or upgraded version. Instead, the company described the game as returning “for a new generation in 2026, reborn exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.

The reveal itself was deliberately mysterious.

Rather than dropping a full gameplay showcase, Nintendo showed a cinematic teaser featuring young Link, accompanied by narration that echoed the feeling of the original game’s opening.

And then Nintendo basically left us hanging.

No gameplay was shown during the announcement, and the company said more information would arrive later in the year.

That means we still haven’t seen exactly how this new version plays, how extensive its visual overhaul is, or what Nintendo has changed beneath the surface.

Elsewhere in gaming: Big games aren’t the only releases getting attention right now. Marvel Rivals: The Hood gameplay revealed offers a look at another upcoming playable character and the kind of new content keeping multiplayer games moving.

Is this really a full remake? Everything Nintendo has shown so far

Things became even more interesting around the time of the announcement, when metadata and early store listings briefly described the project as a full remake featuring “stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay.

Nintendo later simplified its public messaging, choosing to emphasize that the classic adventure had been “reborn” for Nintendo Switch 2.

That distinction matters because Ocarina of Time has already received an enhanced version.

In 2011, Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for Nintendo 3DS. That version brought updated visuals, touchscreen functionality, and several quality-of-life improvements to the original adventure.

The Nintendo Switch 2 project has been positioned differently.

Rather than being presented as another remaster, enhanced port, or upgraded version of either the Nintendo 64 game or Ocarina of Time 3D, Nintendo has framed this project as a ground-up remake.

That makes the eventual gameplay reveal one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle.

At the moment, Nintendo hasn’t revealed additional gameplay systems, technical features, or the full extent of the visual redesign beyond what has already been officially announced.

The ESRB rating makes the 2026 launch look even more believable

There was another major development in late July 2026 when the remake received an ESRB rating of Everyone 10+.

The rating lists Animated Blood and Fantasy Violence.

That rating doesn’t reveal a release date, but it is another important sign that the project is progressing toward launch.

Nintendo’s official U.S. product page also continues to show a 2026 release window.

However, we’re still waiting for several key details. Nintendo hasn’t announced the exact launch date, pricing, preorder information, or special editions.

So while the release window is looking increasingly solid, there’s still plenty Nintendo hasn’t revealed.

Why this remake is such a massive deal for Zelda fans

Let’s be real: Ocarina of Time isn’t just another old Zelda game getting a modern makeover.

Originally released on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time became one of the most influential games ever made. Its transition of the Zelda formula into 3D helped establish design conventions that would influence countless action-adventure games that followed.

It also remains one of the highest-rated games in gaming history, holding a staggering 99 Metacritic score.

That legacy creates some serious expectations for a ground-up remake.

Players who experienced the original have memories tied to its world, characters, dungeons, puzzles, combat, music, and exploration. Meanwhile, a new generation of players could potentially experience the adventure through a completely modern presentation built specifically for Nintendo Switch 2.

And that’s what makes this remake so exciting.

Nintendo isn’t just revisiting an important Zelda game. It’s bringing one of the most influential 3D adventures ever created into a new generation.

Nintendo’s latest financial results add even more context

The Ocarina of Time confirmation arrived as part of Nintendo’s latest quarterly financial results, and the numbers paint an interesting picture of the company heading into the rest of 2026.

For the Aprilโ€“June 2026 quarter, Nintendo reported:

  • Net sales: 517.8 billion yen, down 9.5% year over year.
  • Operating profit: 142.5 billion yen, up 150.5%.
  • Ordinary profit: 206.1 billion yen, up 115.1%.
  • Profit attributable to owners of parent: 147.4 billion yen, up 53.5%.

Nintendo attributed the stronger profitability to several factors, including a stronger software sales mix, favorable foreign exchange movements, and approximately $300 million in U.S. tariff refunds, which were recorded as a reduction in the cost of sales.

Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch 2 continued to perform strongly.

The company sold 3.82 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles during the quarter. That pushed the system’s lifetime hardware shipments to 23.68 million units since its launch in June 2025.

Switch 2 software sales also reached 58.17 million units over its lifetime, with 9.46 million software units sold during the quarter.

The original Nintendo Switch wasn’t exactly slowing to a crawl either.

Nintendo added another 0.66 million hardware units during the quarter, bringing lifetime hardware sales to 156.59 million.

On the software side, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream was one of the major performers, reaching 7.94 million units sold.

Nintendo also kept its full-year financial forecast unchanged, including its projection of shipping 16.5 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles during the fiscal year ending March 2027.

So when will Ocarina of Time actually release?

And hereโ€™s where the mystery remains.

Nintendo has now reaffirmed the 2026 release window, and the company’s official product listing continues to support that timeframe. The ESRB rating is also in place.

But Nintendo has not given us an exact release date.

There is currently no confirmed launch day, price, preorder date, special edition information, or detailed gameplay showcase.

So, for now, the safest conclusion is also the simplest one: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is planned for release sometime in 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2.

Anything more specific would be speculation.

One more piece of the wider gaming calendar: While you’re waiting for Nintendo’s next reveal, there is no shortage of new games and announcements to follow. See the latest MTG Secret Lair Hatsune Miku Commander deck details for a very different kind of upcoming gaming release.

The next big reveal could change everything

For players waiting to see what Nintendo has actually done with this classic, the next major presentation is going to be huge.

We’ve seen the cinematic teaser. We’ve heard Nintendo describe the game as being reborn exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. We’ve seen the project receive its ESRB rating. We’ve watched Nintendo reaffirm the 2026 release window in official investor materials.

But we still haven’t seen the game properly in action.

That means the first substantial gameplay showcase could answer some of the biggest questions surrounding the remake.

How different will Hyrule look? How far has Nintendo pushed the visual redesign? Will the combat feel modern? What quality-of-life improvements are coming? Will familiar locations remain faithful to the original? And, perhaps most importantly, when can we actually play it?

For now, Nintendo is keeping those answers locked away.

But the important part is that Ocarina of Time hasn’t disappeared from the roadmap.

It is still scheduled for 2026.

And when Nintendo finally pulls back the curtain on this ground-up remake, we could be looking at one of the biggest Zelda releases of the Nintendo Switch 2 generation.
