The Black Temple is where Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy decides to crank the puzzle difficulty up a notch. During Chapter 7: Death It Sowed, Sophia encounters two separate locked-door puzzles, and both of them rely on the Orb and its powerful light-based abilities.
The first puzzle blocks the main entrance to the Black Temple, while the second waits deeper inside and adds a much more complicated reflector challenge into the mix. From hidden skull markings to colored beams bouncing around a massive hole, this section can easily bring your progress to a halt.

How to Open the Exterior Black Temple Doors
The first Black Temple puzzle begins as soon as you reach the entrance. Before touching the puzzle, clear out the soldiers around the area so you can safely focus on the massive doors.
Once the area is secure, stand on the circular pedestal directly in front of the large temple doors. Activate the Orb’s Light Reveal ability, which exposes glowing dots or gemstones hidden within the patterns across the doors.
These glowing markings reveal the order needed to activate the four skull buttons.
To understand the puzzle, number the four columns from left to right as 1, 2, 3, and 4. The revealed solution is:
3 – 4 – 2 – 1
However, the skull buttons need to be pressed according to the reverse-looking positions shown by that sequence. Standing in front of the doors, press them in this order:
- First: Fourth column, far right
- Second: Third column, second from the right
- Third: First column, far left
- Fourth: Second column, second from the left
Enter the sequence correctly and the enormous Black Temple doors will finally open, allowing you to head inside and continue Chapter 7.

How to Open the Interior Black Temple Door
The second Black Temple puzzle is waiting deeper inside the temple, and this one is definitely the more involved challenge.
After entering the area, you will eventually reach another locked door near a large central hole. This time, pressing a few skull buttons is only part of the solution. You also need to uncover hidden markings and use the Orb’s Light Splitting ability to direct three colored beams through a series of reflectors.

Reveal the Hidden Skull Markings
Start by standing inside the beam of light beside the large hole. Activate Light Reveal with Sophia’s Orb.
While the ability is active, turn around and look toward the wall behind you. Hidden markings will appear around a skull.
Push the revealed skull button.
Next, follow the light toward the next area. Soldiers will appear during this section, so defeat them before moving on with the puzzle.
Stand inside the next beam of light and activate Light Reveal again. Search for the markings surrounding another skull on the wall, then push that skull button as well.
After activating the second hidden skull, return to the main pedestal outside the locked door.

Position the Central Reflector
At the main pedestal, push the skull button to get a view of the large central hole.
You should now see several reflectors positioned around the hole, along with three colored light targets: red, green, and blue.
Here is the tricky part: the colors coming directly from the Orb do not naturally line up with their matching targets. You need to bounce the beams through the reflectors to send each color where it belongs.
Before splitting the light, push the skull button on the pedestal again and adjust the central reflector.
Move it until it sits in the middle of the outer rim of the hole.
This position is required before moving on to the final part of the puzzle.

Solve the Colored Light Puzzle
Now stand on the circle in front of the main pedestal and activate the Orb’s Light Splitting ability.
The Orb will separate its light into three colored beams, and your job is to position them so they reach the correct reflectors.
Use this exact arrangement:
- Aim the green light at the central reflector.
- Turn the Orb so the blue light reaches the right reflector.
- Turn the Orb so the red light reaches the upper-left reflector.
The reflectors will then bounce the three colored beams toward their matching colored spots around the massive hole.
Once all three beams are correctly positioned, the puzzle activates and platforms appear down inside the hole.
That is your way forward. Descend using the newly revealed platforms and continue deeper through the Black Temple.

What Orb Abilities Do You Need for the Black Temple Puzzles?
Both Black Temple puzzles rely on two important abilities from Sophia’s Orb:
- Light Reveal: Used to expose hidden markings and identify the solution to the exterior door puzzle.
- Light Splitting: Used during the interior puzzle to separate the Orb’s light into red, green, and blue beams.
The exterior puzzle is mainly about recognizing the sequence revealed by Light Reveal, while the interior challenge requires you to combine Light Reveal with careful reflector positioning and the Orb’s Light Splitting ability.
When the colored beams are refusing to reach their targets, check the central reflector first. It must be positioned in the middle of the hole’s outer rim before attempting the final light arrangement.
