When I first booted up Mistfall Hunter during the open beta, the first thing on my mind was squadding up with friends on other platforms, and that sent me down a rabbit hole trying to confirm whether crossplay actually works the way I hoped. And once I pieced together the official details alongside what other players have experienced, the picture became a lot clearer, though not without a few wrinkles worth flagging before you jump in with your squad.
Mistfall Hunter certainly isn’t the only survival-style game juggling cross-platform play, either. To learn more, check out our guide: Is Palworld Crossplay in 2026? Full Cross-Platform Guide for PC, PS5, and Xbox.
Mistfall Hunter Crossplay Is Confirmed Across PC, Xbox, And PlayStation
Mistfall Hunter does support crossplay, and I experienced this firsthand while squadding up during the open beta with a friend on a different platform. That lines up with the official press release from Bellring Games and Skystone Games.
The beta ran from roughly June 15 to June 22, 2026, giving players from across the globe, including the US and UK, a first taste of squadding up across platforms ahead of the full launch.
And don’t worry, crossplay is not just a beta feature. The official Steam FAQ confirms cross-platform matchmaking carries into the full launch as well. A developer also weighed in directly on the Steam Community discussions, confirming crossplay is available in the game.

How Squads Work With Crossplay Enabled
Mistfall Hunter is built around solo play or three-player cooperative squads, and crossplay is meant to let those squads form regardless of which platform each hunter is on. Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s confirmed so far:
- Supported platforms: PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
- Squad size: Up to three players per group
- Crossplay scope: Players on the same server can team up across platforms
- Confirmed by: Official Bellring Games and Skystone Games press release, plus a developer comment on Steam Community
| Platform | Crossplay Support |
| PC (Steam) | Yes |
| PlayStation 5 | Yes |
| Xbox Series X | S | Yes |

How To Actually Add Cross-Platform Friends
If you want to squad up with someone on another platform, you can do this through the in-game Team or Friends menu rather than relying on your console’s native friends list. Here’s exactly how to do it, based on a walkthrough from YouTuber Gotting Light:

- Head to the main hub before starting a match. Depending on your platform, you’ll see a prompt in the top left of your screen telling you which button opens the Team screen.
- Open the friends list. Once you’re in the Team screen, look to the bottom right corner and press the button (Options on some platforms) to pull up your friends list, or just hit the Add button directly.
- Use the search bar for cross-platform friends. If you’re trying to add someone on a different platform, like Steam or Xbox, head to the search bar in the top right. You can search by nickname, but ID is the safer bet, since duplicate or near-identical usernames can lead to you accidentally sending a request to the wrong person.
- Find your own Player ID to share. Your ID sits in small font just below your gamer tag and player level in the top right corner. Copy it down or screenshot it so a friend can paste it into their own search bar.
- Send or accept the request. Once the correct ID is entered, you can send a friend request directly, or check the Recent tab to find people you’ve recently played with.

It takes a bit of getting used to if you haven’t done cross-platform friending before, but the process lines up with what most other crossplay-supported games already ask of you.
- Search by unique Player ID rather than nickname, since Player ID is the more reliable way to find cross-platform friends
- Crossplay can typically be toggled in the game’s settings menu if you’d rather limit matchmaking to your own platform
- Native, platform-specific friends lists are not required to squad up across systems

One Catch: Your Data Doesn’t Sync Between Platforms
However, there is an important limitation worth knowing before you commit to a platform. A Bellring Games developer clarified on the Steam Community discussions that while crossplay works, progress and account data do not sync across different platforms. In other words, you can team up with a friend on another console, but your own save and progression stay tied to whichever platform you’re actually playing on. Xbox players get one partial exception here, though. Xbox Play Anywhere allows saves and achievements to sync between Xbox consoles and the Microsoft Store PC version, though that bridge does not extend to Steam or PlayStation. Xbox players also get Mistfall Hunter on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
Worth noting too, progress earned during the open beta itself did not carry over into launch, though some cosmetic rewards tied to the same account did.
Some Players Have Reported Trouble Finding Cross-Platform Friends
That being said, it’s worth flagging that not everyone has had a smooth experience. On the game’s Reddit community, one player based in the US described trying to connect with UK-based friends on Xbox while playing through Steam, only to have friend searches come back unable to find those accounts, even after trying the Xbox app directly. Another player on the same thread reported hitting the identical issue. Even one of my friends from the UK ran into similar issues while trying to connect with me through Xbox.
A likely explanation is that beta servers were region-locked, running separately across regions including the US, Germany, Singapore, Brazil, and China, meaning players on different regional servers simply couldn’t find or play with each other regardless of platform. Neither the developers nor Bellring Games have addressed this specific search problem publicly, so it’s unclear whether it was purely a regional issue or something else on top of that.

Crossover announcements and franchise reveals have also been keeping players busy this month, well beyond the survival genre. To know more, read our article New God of War game confirmed with Kratos, and it directly ties into Laufey’s story
What This Means Heading Into Launch
Mistfall Hunter will globally release on July 29, 2026, priced at $24.99 for the Standard Edition or $39.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition, and crossplay between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S is confirmed as a core feature for both the beta and the full release rather than something bolted on later.
Whether the friend-search issues some players ran into during the beta carry over into launch remains to be seen, especially if regional server locks are still in place, but the underlying crossplay infrastructure is officially there. Squad up with whoever you want, just don’t expect your progress to follow you if you decide to switch platforms later, unless you’re moving between Xbox and PC through Play Anywhere.
