Slayers 2 Breathing Styles and Blood Demon Arts Guide: What Changed After the Balance Updates?

Slayers 2 has barely had time to settle into Roblox, and already its combat meta is shifting. The game launched on September 18, 2026, giving players access to two completely different power paths: Breathing Styles for Demon Slayers and Blood Demon Arts for Demons.

That sounds straightforward until you start comparing community guides. Early rankings were built around the game’s launch version, but balance changes have already forced some creators to rethink where individual abilities belong. So, rather than blindly following one tier list, this guide breaks down what the early rankings actually tell us, why they disagree, and why your choice can change depending on whether you’re focused on PvP, PvE, or a particular playstyle.

If you’re working through the Demon side of this same game, I already covered the transformation route in Slayers 2 Demon Guide: How to Become a Demon, Find Muzan and Unlock the Full Demon Progression Path,

Breathing Styles and Blood Demon Arts create two completely different combat paths

At the core of Slayers 2 are its two major ability categories.

Breathing Styles are used by Demon Slayers, while Blood Demon Arts, also referred to as Evil Arts in some in-game terminology, give Demons their supernatural movesets.

The launch-period community documentation covers a sizeable selection of abilities. The Breathing Styles include:

  • Thunder
  • Sound
  • Snake
  • Insect
  • Dream
  • Reaper
  • Shockwave
  • Stone
  • Flame
  • Wind
  • Water

The Blood Demon Arts include:

  • Blood Manipulation
  • Ice Manipulation
  • Explosive Blood
  • Arrow
  • Obi
  • Temari

These aren’t simply cosmetic choices. Each option has its own moveset and combat characteristics, which means an ability can perform very differently depending on the activity you’re playing.

A style that looks strong in PvE may not translate perfectly into PvP. Likewise, an art designed around pressure and combos can have a completely different value when you’re fighting bosses or clearing groups of enemies.

That difference is exactly why early Slayers 2 guides started separating their assessments by PvP and PvE performance.

The first major tier list put Thunder, Blood Manipulation and Ice at the top

One of the earliest detailed assessments came from Destructoid, whose Slayers 2 tier-list guide was published on September 18, 2026 and updated on September 20. The guide evaluated both Breathing Styles and Blood Demon Arts while considering overall PvP and PvE performance.

Its original ranking placed Thunder Breathing, Blood Manipulation and Ice Manipulation in the highest category.

The next group contained:

  • Sound Breathing
  • Snake Breathing
  • Insect Breathing
  • Dream Manipulation
  • Reaper
  • Shockwave

The following category included:

  • Stone Breathing
  • Flame Breathing
  • Explosive Blood
  • Arrow Manipulation
  • Obi Manipulation

The lowest category contained:

  • Wind Breathing
  • Water Breathing
  • Temari Manipulation

However, these placements were Destructoid’s own assessment, not an official ranking from Ouw Productions, the developer behind Slayers 2.

That distinction matters because the game was still extremely new when the guide was published.

Destructoid specifically highlighted Blood Manipulation as “easily the best Blood Demon Art” while describing it as the best moveset in the game before the balance patch. Its reasoning included the art’s strong barrage-style damage, its ability to work with M1 attacks in PvE, and its strong combo potential in PvP and certain PvE encounters.

Ice Manipulation was also placed at the top because of its powerful moveset, strong grab, counter, combos and large-area ice attacks that could be especially useful for dungeon PvE.

Thunder stood out for a different reason. Destructoid highlighted its fast, instant-cast moves, which made it difficult to react to in PvP while also giving it strong PvE performance.

The balance patch changed how some abilities were viewed

This is where things get interesting.

The early launch rankings did not stay completely static. A Pro Game Guides update published on September 20, 2026 explicitly states that its rankings were reworked around the latest balance changes.

Its Breathing Style assessment moved Flame and Wind into its highest category, while Water moved substantially higher and Sound, Thunder and Insect lost ground compared with that guide’s earlier assessment.

Its Blood Demon Art assessment also changed. Shockwave and Ice Manipulation were placed in the highest category, while Blood Manipulation moved down to the next category. Pyrokinesis and Obi Manipulation also moved up in the updated assessment.

Another community guide likewise reported a balance patch affecting several abilities, including Flame, Water, Insect and Thunder.

So, this is the important lesson for anyone trying to build a character right now: an early Slayers 2 tier list is tied to the version of the game it was written around.

A ranking from September 18 can tell you how an ability performed around launch. It doesn’t automatically describe how that same ability performs after later balance adjustments.

Why do Slayers 2 tier lists disagree so much?

The easiest mistake is treating a community tier list like an official in-game ranking.

It isn’t.

Different guides can judge abilities using different criteria. One writer might care heavily about PvP, while another may prioritize PvE, dungeon clearing or boss fights. Some may also place greater importance on combo potential, mobility or ease of use.

Even the same ability can therefore receive different evaluations.

For example, Destructoid’s launch-period assessment placed Flame and Wind below its highest category, while the updated Pro Game Guides assessment moved Flame and Wind into its highest category following balance changes. Water was also assessed more favorably in the later guide.

The Blood Demon Arts show an equally obvious shift. Blood Manipulation was highlighted by Destructoid as an exceptional pre-balance option, while the later Pro Game Guides assessment moved it down after balance changes and placed Shockwave alongside Ice Manipulation at the top of its updated list.

That doesn’t mean one guide is automatically correct and the other is wrong.

It means they are evaluating the game at different points and, potentially, using different standards.

PvP and PvE can completely change how a moveset feels

One of the biggest things to remember when choosing an ability is what you’re actually going to do with it.

Destructoid’s assessment already separated some abilities according to their strengths. Sound, for example, was praised for combo extensions and projectiles while also offering ways to hold enemies in place for teammates during PvE.

Snake was noted for its mobility, teleport and knock-up tools, while its barrages could also provide strong PvE damage.

Dream and Reaper were more heavily associated with PvP. Dream’s stuns and grab created combo opportunities, while Reaper offered fast moves and multiple combo options. Reaper could still perform well in group PvE because of its barrage, although its solo PvE performance was considered weaker.

Shockwave sat somewhere between those roles. It was considered somewhat PvP-focused because of its combo potential and counters, but it also had PvE value through its barrage and area damage.

Other abilities were more specialized.

Stone was considered a strong PvP option because of its hyper armor and aggressive attacks, while its PvE performance was less impressive.

Flame could become particularly effective in PvE when paired with the Rengoku clan, thanks to its area damage, range and burns, although its slower startup was viewed as a PvP weakness in the earlier assessment.

Arrow was considered easier to use effectively in PvE because its slower and more telegraphed attacks were easier for opponents to punish in PvP.

Obi went in the opposite direction, functioning as a more specialized PvP toolkit with mixups and combos that demanded practice.

That is why simply asking which ability is “best” can be misleading.

The lower-ranked options are not automatically useless

Another important detail from the early guides is that a lower placement does not mean an ability cannot work.

Wind, Water and Temari were placed in the lowest category in Destructoid’s initial assessment, but the guide still described strengths and weaknesses rather than treating them as unusable.

Wind had useful moves, but its slower attacks and awkward enemy displacement could make it harder to use effectively.

Water was criticized for low DPS, slower animations and attacks that opponents could walk or dash away from. The original guide even suggested that a future balance patch could change its standing.

Temari was considered more useful in PvE than PvP, although it was not viewed as particularly strong overall.

This is another reason players should be careful with rigid tier-list thinking. A style that sits lower on a community list can still become effective in the hands of someone who understands its moveset, matchups and limitations.

Slayers 2 is still in its early balancing phase

The release date puts everything into perspective.

Slayers 2 launched on September 18, 2026, and its official Roblox release event was also dated September 18. That means these early guides were created during the game’s opening days.

The combat system is therefore still being shaped.

When developers adjust damage, cooldowns, hitboxes, startup times, movement, counters or other parts of a moveset, community opinions can change very quickly. An ability that initially struggles can become significantly more useful after a balance update, while a launch favorite can lose some of its advantage.

That is already visible in the changing assessments of Flame, Water, Wind, Thunder, Insect, Blood Manipulation and Shockwave.

Community guides themselves acknowledge this temporary nature. The All Things How guide described its placements as reflecting the public-release period and noted that its rankings were based on the game before the first balance pass.

What should you actually use these guides for?

The smartest way to read the current Slayers 2 rankings is to treat them as snapshots, not permanent answers.

Before switching your build or committing resources to a new ability, check:

  • When the guide was published
  • When it was last updated
  • Which balance patch it reflects
  • Whether it focuses on PvP, PvE or both
  • What strengths and weaknesses the writer gives for the ability

Most importantly, don’t assume that a community tier placement is an official classification from Ouw Productions.

The early guides show something more useful than a permanent winner: they show how quickly Slayers 2’s combat meta is developing.

The game currently has separate Breathing Styles and Blood Demon Arts with different strengths, weaknesses and intended combat characteristics. Early community rankings placed Thunder, Blood Manipulation and Ice Manipulation at the top in one launch-period assessment, while later balance-focused rankings changed the positions of several abilities.

So, when you’re choosing your next ability, don’t just look at an old tier letter.

Look at the patch, understand the moveset, decide whether you’re playing PvP or PvE, and then judge whether that ability actually fits the way you want to play.

That approach matters even more in Slayers 2 right now because the game is still new, and its combat meta is clearly not finished evolving.
