Onimusha Way of the Sword: All 15 Charm Locations and How to Fully Upgrade Every Charm

Player character approaching an NPC in Kyoto to start the Restless Spirits Chance Encounter for the Charm of Oni Power.

Onimusha Way of the Sword has 15 Charms scattered across its story missions, Mysteries of Kyoto, and Chance Encounters. But collecting them all is only half the grind. To complete the Charm-related trophy or achievement requirements, youโ€™ll need to push every Charm to Level 3, which means farming a serious amount of Red Souls and Favor.

Hereโ€™s the complete Charm guide, covering every location, the activities required to obtain them, upgrade costs, resource requirements, and the safest point to finish your collection.

How to Unlock and Upgrade Charms in Onimusha Way of the Sword

Charm upgrades become available after completing โ€œThe Stage is Set at Kiyomizu.โ€

Once that mission is complete, head to the shrine in the southeast corner of Emmaโ€™s Hall. Select the Charm you want to upgrade and choose โ€œMake Offering.โ€

Every upgrade requires two resources:

  • Red Souls
  • Favor

Red Souls are earned primarily by defeating enemies, so combat is your main source when you need to build up your stockpile.

Favor works differently. You obtain it by trading items, including items acquired from:

  • Shining objects found on the ground.
  • Small treasure chests with a noticeable shine.
  • Helping citizens being attacked by Genma and then speaking to them afterward.
  • Purchasing tradeable items from the merchant.

Since all 15 Charms ultimately need to be upgraded for Charmed Life, donโ€™t burn through these resources unnecessarily while working toward full completion.

Charm Upgrade Costs

The upgrade structure is identical for every Charm.

Level 1 โ†’ Level 2

You need:

  • 3,000 Red Souls
  • 3,500 Favor

Level 2 โ†’ Level 3

Level 3 is the maximum Charm level and costs:

  • 6,000 Red Souls
  • 6,500 Favor

Across all 15 Charms, completely upgrading the collection requires a total of:

  • 135,000 Red Souls
  • 150,000 Favor

Thatโ€™s a substantial resource investment, so keep those numbers in mind during your completion run.

When Should You Collect All 15 Charms?

You donโ€™t need to panic about grabbing every Charm the instant it becomes available. Onimusha Way of the Sword allows players to continue exploring and cleaning up collectibles until the Point of No Return, which comes before the final mission, โ€œThe Clash At Rendaino.โ€

For a safer completion run, make a manual save before entering this final stretch. That gives you a reliable save point for finishing any remaining collectibles, including Charms and their upgrades.

The game’s broader completion structure also allows remaining content to be cleaned up rather than permanently locking players out of collectible progress.

How to Get Enough Red Souls and Favor

Fully upgrading 15 Charms is where the real resource grind begins. Youโ€™ll need 135,000 Red Souls and 150,000 Favor, so a little planning goes a long way.

Farm Red Souls Through Combat

Red Souls mainly come from defeating enemies. If you still need Souls for Charm upgrades, keep fighting rather than constantly rushing past enemies.

Every battle can help push you toward that massive 135,000 Red Soul requirement.

Save Valuable Trade Items for Favor

Favor comes from trading items, so donโ€™t treat every tradeable item as something you should immediately exchange without considering your upgrade needs.

Your Favor sources include:

  • Shining objects on the ground.
  • Small shining treasure chests.
  • Rewards connected to helping citizens being attacked by Genma and speaking to them afterward.
  • Tradeable items purchased from the merchant.

Keep Exploring

Exploration is especially valuable during a 100% completion run. Side activities and helping citizens can provide useful rewards while also contributing to your progress toward other collectibles and upgrades.

Make a Manual Save Before the Final Mission

Before โ€œThe Clash At Rendaino,โ€ create a manual save. It gives you a dependable point for cleaning up any remaining collectibles or Charm upgrades.

What Trophies or Achievements Do the Charms Unlock?

There are two Charm-related trophy or achievement milestones to keep in mind.

A Real Charmer requires you to enhance a Charm to its maximum level.

Charmed Life requires you to fully upgrade every Charm.

So simply collecting all 15 Charms isnโ€™t enough for the full Charm completion requirement. You need to invest the resources and take every Charm all the way to Level 3.

Final Charm Upgrade Requirements

For the complete Charm grind, the numbers are straightforward:

  • 15 total Charms
  • 135,000 Red Souls
  • 150,000 Favor
  • Level 3 is the maximum level

Once every Charm has been collected and upgraded to Level 3, youโ€™ve fulfilled the requirements for Charmed Life.
