Solo Leveling: KARMA Reveals Jinwoo’s 27-Year Monarch War in New Gameplay Details

Sung Jinwoo’s biggest unexplored battle is finally becoming playable. Solo Leveling: KARMA is shaping up as a new roguelite action RPG that dives into the previously untold 27-year war between Jinwoo and the Monarchs, giving players a chance to experience a period of his journey that the original Solo Leveling story never showed in detail.

Netmarble brought the game back into the spotlight at Tokyo Game Show 2026, showcasing new gameplay and cinematic material while revealing more about how KARMA will expand the franchise. Instead of simply retelling Jinwoo’s familiar rise, the game takes players into the Dimensional Gap, where his fight against the Monarchs continues for decades from his perspective.

And this is not just another Solo Leveling adaptation. KARMA combines Jinwoo’s universe with roguelite progression, letting players experiment with weapons, skills, buffs and different combat builds across repeated runs. The result is an original chapter built around a massive piece of Solo Leveling history that fans have only heard about until now.

Solo Leveling: KARMA Turns the Missing 27 Years Into a New Adventure

The biggest hook behind Solo Leveling: KARMA is its setting. Netmarble is using the game’s story to explore Sung Jinwoo’s 27-year war against the Monarchs inside the Dimensional Gap, a period that was largely left unexplored in the original work.

The story begins after Jinwoo uses the Cup of Reincarnation and enters the Dimensional Gap. From there, he becomes locked in a prolonged conflict against the Monarchs, spending what amounts to 27 years from his perspective fighting through this isolated battlefield.

That gives KARMA a completely different storytelling opportunity. Rather than sending players through scenes they already know, Netmarble is creating an original narrative around the missing period of Jinwoo’s life.

The developers have said the 27-year war was selected because it was one of the most intriguing gaps in the original story. At the same time, the team has worked to keep the new material consistent with established Solo Leveling lore, including Jinwoo’s abilities, his Shadow Army and the relationships between the Monarchs.

So, while KARMA expands the universe, it is not intended to replace or rewrite the original storyline. It is filling in a chapter that was referenced but never fully depicted.

Jinwoo’s Dimensional Gap War Brings Corrupted Hunters Into the Fight

The Dimensional Gap is not going to be an empty battlefield filled with only familiar Monarch enemies. KARMA introduces new situations and enemies designed specifically for this unexplored period.

One of the most notable additions is the Corrupted Hunters.

These are altered versions of familiar characters who appear within the Dimensional Gap. Netmarble has already shown characters such as Cha Hae-In and Go Gunhee in corrupted forms, creating a much darker version of characters players already recognize.

The concept fits directly into KARMA’s story because the game is showing what happens away from the events taking place on Earth. Jinwoo is fighting through a conflict that the original cast never experienced alongside him.

The game’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 material also highlighted Jinwoo’s continued battle against corrupted Hunters and the mysterious force behind them.

That means players are not simply getting alternate versions of existing characters for the sake of gameplay. Their appearances are tied to the game’s central premise of exploring an unseen period of the Solo Leveling universe.

KARMA’s Roguelite Combat Is Built Around Becoming Overpowered

Story might be the game’s biggest connection to Solo Leveling, but the actual gameplay is where KARMA starts doing something very different.

Netmarble describes the title as a roguelite action RPG, with each run allowing players to combine weapons, skills and buffs into different builds. The goal is to capture one of the most recognizable ideas from Solo Leveling: starting with limited power and steadily becoming an overwhelming force.

Players begin runs with restricted capabilities and grow stronger while progressing through stages. Different combinations of weapons and skill Blessings can produce different combat styles, meaning repeated runs can play out with different builds.

The TGS 2026 demo also featured more than 200 types of buffs and eight playable characters, while the Shadow Army was implemented as something players can directly control rather than functioning only as a simple summon.

That build-focused approach is central to KARMA’s gameplay loop. Instead of relying on one fixed setup, players can experiment with combinations and discover which choices work best during each run.

Blessing Cores Connect the Gameplay to the Monarchs

One of KARMA’s most important systems is its Blessing Core mechanic.

Through this system, Jinwoo can absorb and use powers associated with the Monarchs. It gives the game’s progression mechanics a direct connection to its story rather than treating upgrades as completely separate gameplay elements.

The system has also changed during development.

Netmarble previously explored a different lore concept involving the Emissaries of Itarim, but the development team later shifted toward a system in which Jinwoo absorbs and uses the powers of the original Monarchs inside the Dimensional Gap.

For longtime Solo Leveling fans, that change matters because it ties KARMA’s combat progression more closely to established parts of Jinwoo’s story.

The game’s official material continues to emphasize its original universe, combat systems and character-focused action while positioning the Dimensional Gap as the central setting.

The Recording System Gives Successful Builds a Second Life

Roguelite games can sometimes create the same frustration: you spend a long time creating an incredible build, lose the run and then have to start all over again.

KARMA is attempting to soften that problem through its Recording System.

The system allows players to preserve successful Blessing builds and later use them in endgame content such as Challenge Dungeons. Instead of throwing away everything from a successful run, players can carry useful build experimentation into later activities.

That gives KARMA a little more long-term continuity while keeping the repeated-run structure that defines the roguelite format.

Players will still be encouraged to experiment with different weapons, skills and buffs from run to run, but successful combinations can have a purpose beyond a single attempt.

Netmarble Is Building an Original Solo Leveling Story

KARMA is the third game based on the Solo Leveling IP, but Netmarble is deliberately giving it a different identity from earlier adaptations.

Previous games have focused more heavily on recreating the original story or using collection-based mechanics. KARMA instead revolves around a completely new narrative centered on the 27-year Monarch War.

That gives the developers room to create battles, situations and character encounters that could not simply be copied from the original webtoon.

Netmarble has also said that the original author was involved in supervising the game’s story and lore. According to producer Jin Seong-gun, the team worked with the author from the early planning stages to establish the Dimensional Gap material and keep the new narrative compatible with Jinwoo’s established character and the rules of the Solo Leveling universe.

The developers have also paid close attention to dialogue and character behavior so that familiar characters remain recognizable despite appearing in this new setting.

TGS 2026 Shows KARMA Nearing Its Final Development Stage

Tokyo Game Show 2026 offered another important update: KARMA is getting closer to release preparations.

Netmarble said the development team has spent almost a year incorporating feedback from the game’s G-STAR 2025 demonstration.

That feedback has helped shape the latest version of the game, with the team concentrating heavily on combat polish, the impact and feel of attacks, and optimization for mobile devices.

The game is now described as being in the final stages of preparation, but there is still one major piece of information missing.

Netmarble has not announced a specific launch date.

The company has said the release schedule is undergoing final adjustments and that more detailed service information will be revealed once it is confirmed.

Netmarble is prioritizing Korea and Japan for the initial rollout before expanding the game globally. The company has also said it wants the global version to maintain the same systems and content rather than creating major differences between regions.

Multilingual localization and server stability remain among the team’s stated priorities.

Solo Leveling: KARMA Is Coming to Mobile and PC

Players will not be limited to a single platform when KARMA eventually launches.

The official game information identifies Solo Leveling: KARMA as a roguelite action RPG for Android and iOS, while the game is also being developed for Windows PC.

The game’s current release schedule should still be treated as unconfirmed because Netmarble has not locked in an official launch date.

At Tokyo Game Show 2026, the company was focused on final preparation, combat refinement and mobile optimization rather than announcing a firm release day.

Pre-registration has already begun in South Korea and Japan, with the TGS 2026 rollout giving players in those markets an early opportunity to sign up.

Beyond the System Is Taking Jinwoo’s Anime Story Forward

KARMA is not the only major Solo Leveling project continuing Jinwoo’s journey.

A separate theatrical anime project, Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, was officially announced during the Crunchyroll Showcase at Anime Expo 2026.

The two projects are taking very different approaches.

KARMA explores the previously unseen 27-year Monarch War, while Beyond the System continues the anime storyline after the events of Season 2.

Crunchyroll and Aniplex announced the movie with a teaser key visual and concept video featuring Jinwoo. The project is being co-produced by Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C Media and Kakao Piccoma, with A-1 Pictures returning for animation production.

As of September 2026, there is still no officially announced theatrical release date for Beyond the System. Aniplex has confirmed that the Season 2 sequel is being produced as a theatrical film, but further release information remains pending.

Solo Leveling’s Next Era Is Spreading Across Games and Anime

The interesting part about Solo Leveling right now is that its completed original story is no longer the limit for new adaptations.

Solo Leveling: KARMA is taking one of Jinwoo’s biggest unexplored periods and turning it into an interactive roguelite adventure. Its 27-year battle against the Monarchs gives Netmarble an entirely new setting for combat, character encounters and build experimentation.

Meanwhile, Beyond the System is taking the anime forward from where Season 2 ended.

For players waiting on KARMA, the biggest question is still the same: when can they actually play it?

Netmarble is preparing for release and has prioritized Korea and Japan before a wider global rollout, but the exact launch date remains unannounced. Until that schedule is finalized, the 27-year Monarch War remains one of the most intriguing unexplored periods in Solo Leveling history—and KARMA is preparing to make players experience it for themselves.

Disclaimer

Details about Solo Leveling: KARMA, including its release schedule, content and global rollout, may change before launch. The 27-year period refers to the 27-year war between Sung Jinwoo and the Monarchs, not 27 individual Monarchs. Solo Leveling: Beyond the System is also currently in production without an officially announced theatrical release date.
