Cooking is one of the most rewarding systems in Pokémon Pokopia, and the Cutting Board is your first step into it. However, the recipe does not sit in a menu waiting for you. Instead, it hides behind a Pokémon habitat interaction that many players walk straight past. Here is exactly how to get it.
What You Need Before Unlocking Cutting Board Recipe in Pokémon Pokopia
The Cutting Board recipe only becomes available once you reach Rocky Ridges, the area behind the northwest green gate in Withered Wasteland. You cannot unlock it earlier, so make sure you have completed the Yawn up a Storm quest first, as that is the requirement for accessing Rocky Ridges.

| Requirement | Details |
| Area | Rocky Ridges |
| Unlock condition | Complete Yawn up a Storm in Withered Wasteland |
| Key Pokémon | Dartrix |
| Item to craft first | Perch |
| Perch recipe location | Golden Poké Ball scroll near kitchen workbench |
| Perch materials | 2 Small Logs + 1 Leaf |
| Cutting Board materials | 2 Lumber |
| Crafting station | Workbench |
Step 1: Trigger the Dartrix Habitat Hint
Before you can find Dartrix, you first need to trigger the habitat hint. Head to the barrel hanging from the ceiling in the kitchen area of Rocky Ridges. Hop on top of the nearby crates and attempt to cut the chain holding the barrel down. Your Cut will bounce straight off, and the voice inside the barrel will tell you that you need food to power up your abilities. This short exchange is what introduces the cooking system and gives you the hint for the Pointy Tree-shaded Rocky Tall Grass habitat that attracts Dartrix.
Step 2: Build the Dartrix Habitat

The Cutting Board recipe comes directly from Dartrix, a bird Pokémon that only appears when you build the correct habitat. The specific habitat you need is the Pointy Tree-shaded Rocky Tall Grass, and it requires the following:
- 1 Pointy Tree as the central anchor
- 1 Large Boulder pushed close to the base of the tree using Strength
- 4 Red Tall Grass grown around the area using Leafage
To set this up, follow the minecart tracks southwest toward the water and vegetable garden area. Use Strength to push a boulder next to the pointy tree at the end of the tracks, then use Leafage to pull up four patches of red tall grass around the area. Once everything is in place, wait a few minutes and Dartrix will appear in the habitat.

Step 3: Ask Dartrix About the Cutting Board
Once Dartrix arrives, speak to it and select the prompt “Can you make cutting boards?” Dartrix will agree to share the recipe, but only after you fulfil one condition first: it wants a Perch placed in its habitat before it hands anything over.
Step 4: Find and Craft the Perch
The Perch recipe is available on a golden Poké Ball scroll located right next to the workbench near the kitchen area in Rocky Ridges. Pick it up if you have not already done so.
To craft the Perch, you need:
- 2 Small Logs
- 1 Leaf
Take these materials to the workbench and craft the Perch. It will appear in your inventory as a placeable object once complete.
Step 5: Place the Perch and Collect the Recipe
Return to the Dartrix habitat and place the Perch inside it, near the tree and boulder arrangement where Dartrix is resting. After placing it, interact with Dartrix again. The Pokémon will recognise the completed habitat and reward you with the Cutting Board recipe permanently unlocked in your crafting menu.
Step 6: Craft the Cutting Board
With the recipe now in your menu, crafting the Cutting Board itself is straightforward. Head to the workbench, open the crafting menu, and look for the newly unlocked Cutting Board entry. You only need 2 Lumber to build it.

If you are running low on Lumber, Dartrix can help. Give it small logs and it will convert them into Lumber for you. Once crafted, place the Cutting Board on one of the kitchen countertops in Rocky Ridges and it becomes a fully functional cooking station.
Step 7: Make Your First Salad
With the Cutting Board placed, your first recipe to cook is the Simple Salad. Add 2 Leaves into the Cutting Board and select Start Cooking. Eat the salad immediately to power up your Leafage transformation and restore all of its PP. Leafage will now grow 4 patches of grass at once instead of just 1 when you hold ZR, and it also gains the ability to summon moss on rocks, duckweed on water, and vines on walls.
Note that cooking buffs are temporary: once the yellow meter runs out, Leafage returns to its base form. So make multiple salads and keep them in your bag so you can reapply the buff whenever you need it.
All Cutting Board Recipes in Pokémon Pokopia

| Recipe | Primary Ingredient | Additional Requirement | Skill Upgraded |
| Simple Salad | 2 Leaves | None | Leafage |
| Leppa Salad | Leaves | Leppa Berry | Leafage |
| Seaweed Salad | Leaves | Seaweed | Leafage |
| Shredded Salad | Leaves | Pokémon with Chop specialty following you (e.g., Scyther) | Leafage |
| Crouton Salad | Leaves | Bread | Leafage |
Every salad recipe uses the Cutting Board and powers up Leafage identically, so the choice of recipe comes down to whichever additional ingredient you have available at the time.
What Comes Next: The Cooking Chain
Unlocking the Cutting Board is just the start of a longer cooking progression chain in Pokémon Pokopia. Each upgrade builds directly on the last:
| Step | Food | Skill Upgraded |
| 1 | Any Salad (Cutting Board) | Leafage: 4 patches, moss, duckweed, vines |
| 2 | Any Bread (Bread Oven) | Cut: slice larger area, break metal fencing |
| 3 | Any Hamburger Steak (Frying Pan) | Rock Smash: break harder blocks, collect Iron and Gold Ore |
| 4 | Any Soup (Pot) | Water Gun: water larger area |
The powered-up Leafage you gain from eating a salad feeds directly into the next step, as you need it to grow moss for Torkoal’s Mossy Hot Spring habitat, which in turn leads to the Bread Oven recipe and the Cut upgrade.
