Pokémon Pokopia lets you play as a Ditto disguised as a human, and naturally, you get to decide exactly what that human looks like. From skin tone and hairstyle to full outfits and accessories, the customisation options go deeper than you might expect. Here is everything you need to know about changing your appearance in Pokémon Pokopia, both at the start of the game and as you progress.

When Does Character Customisation Start?

The moment you boot up Pokémon Pokopia and meet your Ditto for the first time, the game immediately takes you into the character creation screen. Here you choose the initial look for your character before stepping out into the world. However, the only decision that sticks permanently is your Ditto’s name, so choose that carefully. Every other customisation option, from your hairstyle to your outfit, can be changed freely at any point after that.

How to Change Your Appearance in Pokémon Pokopia

To change your appearance after the initial setup, you need to interact with a mirror or any item that has a mirror attached to it, such as a dressing table or wardrobe. Mirrors appear in various locations throughout the game world, however the quickest and most reliable way to get one early is to buy a Large Mirror from the Pokémon Center PC Shop for just 50 Life Coins.

Before spending your Life Coins, however, it is worth knowing that a free Large Mirror is available early in the game. You can find it inside an abandoned house to the east of the Pokémon Center in the Withered Wasteland area. You will need the Rock Smash ability to reach it, but if you have that unlocked it is well worth grabbing before visiting the shop. Once you place a mirror in your home and interact with it, the full appearance menu opens up for you to make any changes you like. When you are done, press + to save your new look.

When you discover a new costume or hairstyle out in the world, the game gives you the option to wear it immediately. However, if you prefer to keep your current look and swap into it later, you can always do that at a mirror instead.

You start with 7 hairstyles to choose from, and more become available as you explore. The Mermaid hairstyle, for example, unlocks via the Unmasking True Misty Human Record found in Withered Wasteland. The community is still in the process of confirming unlock conditions for additional styles, so expect this list to grow over time.

Hair Colour

Pokémon Pokopia offers 28 hair colour options, ranging from natural browns and blondes through to vibrant reds and purples. You can change your hair colour as often as you like using any mirror in the game.

Outfits

You start with 2 outfits at the beginning of the game. However, as you progress, explore new areas, and collect Human Records, you unlock access to a growing wardrobe. At least 10 outfits are confirmed so far, with more potentially tied to Human Records still being discovered by the community.

The community is still cataloguing the full list of unlock conditions, so treat the above as a working guide that will expand over time.

Tops, Pants, and Shoes

If you do not want to wear a full preset outfit, you can mix and match individual Tops, Pants, and Shoes separately. Both Familiar Top styles and Familiar Pants styles come in 8 colour variants each: Black, Blue, Purple, Yellow, Green, Red, Pink, and Cyan. Shoes follow the same colour system, giving you a wide range of combinations to personalise your look. Keep in mind that colour options are fixed per clothing piece, so each item comes in its own set of available colours rather than a universal palette you can apply freely.

Headwear

Pokémon Pokopia includes two Familiar Hat styles, both available in the same 8 colour variants. Additionally, unlockable headwear tied to specific outfits can be found in the world, including the Sailor Hat at Bleak Beach and the Super Nerd Glasses in the Rocky Ridges Cave.

Bags

How to Unlock More Outfits

There are two main ways to unlock additional outfits beyond your starting two:

1. Explore the World Outfits and their matching tops, pants, shoes, and headwear are hidden throughout the game world. As you venture into new areas such as Withered Wasteland, Bleak Beach, and Rocky Ridges, keep an eye out for items tucked inside buildings, caves, and behind landmarks. Each outfit piece is typically found in the same location as the rest of its set, so if you find one piece you are likely standing near the others too.

2. Collect Human Records Human Records are collectible items tied to specific characters and locations, found in ruins and throughout each area of Pokémon Pokopia. Each record unlocks a corresponding outfit for your character. For example, the Legendary Ninja Family record unlocks the Ninja Outfit, the Sabrina record unlocks the Psychic Master Outfit, the Black Belt Weekly record unlocks the Black Belt Outfit, and the Game Corner record unlocks the Team Rocket Outfit. Collecting each Gym Leader’s Human Record as you explore is one of the most rewarding ways to expand your wardrobe, and it gives you a strong reason to revisit areas and dig through ruins as you unlock new abilities.

Pro Tip: When you discover a new outfit or hairstyle out in the world, you can equip it on the spot or save it to try at a mirror later. However, keep in mind that colour options are fixed per clothing piece, meaning each item comes in its own set of available colours rather than a universal palette you can apply freely. Plan your mix-and-match combinations with that in mind.
