All Ways to Get Vine Rope in Pokémon Pokopia

There are three confirmed methods for collecting Vine Rope in Pokémon Pokopia. Each one is accessible from early in the game, and at least one source is almost always within reach as you explore.

1. Pick It Up From the Ground

The easiest and most passive way to collect Vine Rope is to simply pick it up while exploring. Vine Rope appears on the ground near tree-shaded tall grass habitats, particularly around trees in the Withered Wasteland area. Since Withered Wasteland is the starting area of the game, you can begin collecting Vine Rope right from the beginning of your adventure. These ground drops respawn over time, so revisiting familiar areas regularly is a reliable way to keep your stock topped up.

2. Use Cut on Hanging Vines (Best Method)

The most consistent and rewarding method is to use the Cut ability on hanging vines found on cliffsides and inside caves throughout the world. Cutting a vine drops Vine Rope that you can pick up directly. Importantly, the higher up you cut a vine, the more Vine Rope it yields, so aim as high as possible when slicing. Vines also respawn over time, so you can return to the same spots across different days to farm them repeatedly.

However, before you start cutting every vine in sight, there is an important consideration. Many hanging vines in Pokémon Pokopia also serve as climbable routes to reach higher areas and locations that are otherwise inaccessible on foot. Before using Cut on any vine, take a moment to check whether it leads somewhere useful. Cutting a vine you need for traversal will remove that route permanently. Some vines may also benefit from a quick Water Gun to hydrate them first if Cut does not seem to be working on its own.

Once the Vine Rope drops, hold Y to collect all the resources at once rather than picking them up individually.

3. Attract Bellsprout for Passive Vine Rope Drops

Pokémon with the Litter specialty drop materials near their habitats as a passive bonus, and Vine Rope is among the items they leave behind. Bellsprout is the most reliable early example of this, as it regularly drops Vine Rope near its Tree-Shaded Tall Grass habitat. This makes Bellsprout’s habitat one of the best early setups in the game since it doubles as both a passive Vine Rope source and a standard ground collection spot.

Other Pokémon may also offer Vine Rope occasionally as a thank you gift for raising their Comfort Level, however the Litter specialty method is far more consistent than waiting on random gifts.

MethodHow to Do ItReliability
Pick up from the groundFound near tree-shaded tall grass habitats in Withered Wasteland; respawns over timePassive, always available while exploring
Cut hanging vinesUse Cut ability on vines along cliffsides and in caves; cut higher for more drops; vines respawnBest method for consistent farming
Litter specialty PokémonBellsprout drops Vine Rope reliably near its habitat; other Pokémon may gift it occasionallyReliable via Bellsprout; random for other Pokémon

Pro Tip: Build a Tree-Shaded Tall Grass habitat and attract Bellsprout as early as possible. Its Litter specialty means it passively drops Vine Rope near its habitat on a regular basis, giving you a consistent supply without needing to actively farm. Some vines may also benefit from a quick Water Gun to hydrate them before using Cut, so try this if a vine is not responding to Cut alone.

How to Unlock the Cut Ability

If you have not yet unlocked Cut, here is how to do it:

  1. Build a tree-shaded tall grass habitat, which consists of a tree surrounded by four tall grasses.
  2. Wait for Scyther to appear in the habitat.
  3. Complete Scyther’s first Request by giving it 2 Sturdy Sticks, which you can find in Withered Wasteland.
  4. Once the Request is complete, Scyther will teach you the Cut move.
  5. With Cut unlocked, you can use it on hanging vines, grass patches, trees, and more throughout the world.

Scyther is also a great source of Lumber, and its Cut ability works on grass patches and wood as well, making it one of the most useful Pokémon to attract early in the game.

Summary

  • Vine Rope is a common crafting material available from the very start of Pokémon Pokopia in Withered Wasteland.
  • The easiest passive method is to pick it up from the ground near tree-shaded tall grass habitats. Ground drops respawn over time so revisiting areas regularly keeps your stock steady.
  • The most reliable farming method is using the Cut ability on hanging vines. Cutting higher up the vine yields more Vine Rope per cut, and vines respawn across different days.
  • Before cutting a vine, always check whether it leads to a climbable route. Cutting a traversal vine removes that path permanently.
  • To fully unlock Cut, attract Scyther by building a tree surrounded by four tall grasses, then complete Scyther’s first Request by giving it 2 Sturdy Sticks found in Withered Wasteland. Scyther will teach you Cut once the Request is complete.

  • Bellsprout’s Litter specialty makes it one of the best passive Vine Rope sources in the game. Building a Tree-Shaded Tall Grass habitat and attracting Bellsprout early gives you a reliable, low-effort supply alongside your ground collection.
