Phasmophobia built its reputation on the thrill of shared fear. You enter a haunted location, your flashlight flickers and you feel the weight of every step. Because of that, it makes sense that you want your friends by your side no matter what platform they use. With the game now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, plus PC, the question rises with new urgency: Does Phasmophobia have crossplay?
You can take a deep breath. The answer is yes. Phasmophobia supports full cross platform play across all platforms where the game currently exists. You can join your friends on PS5, PC or Xbox Series consoles and share the same ghost hunting session without barriers. What you cannot do is crossplay with Xbox One, since Phasmophobia never launched on that system.
Phasmophobia Crossplay Compatibility
Phasmophobia offers crossplay across three main platforms:
• PC (Steam)
• PlayStation 5 and PSVR2
• Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S
The game does not exist on Xbox One or Nintendo Switch, so those systems fall outside cross platform support. If your friend plays on a Series X while you play on PS5, you can join each other without issues. If your friend has Xbox One, they cannot join because the game is not available for that console at all.
Developers added universal crossplay in a major update that arrived around the console launch. The community tested it heavily, and it works across standard and VR setups. You can even join a friend who plays in VR while you play on a standard screen.
How Crossplay Works in Phasmophobia
Phasmophobia keeps the process simple. You only need to make a few adjustments to play together across platforms.
1. Turn On Crossplay
Each player must enable crossplay in the game settings. This option appears on all platforms. Once you turn it on, your game will search for cross platform lobbies.
2. Use the Same Server Region
Phasmophobia sorts lobbies by region. When you choose your region, match it with your friend. The most common regions are NA and EU. You will see the region displayed above the code once you enter the lobby screen.
3. Join Through a Lobby Code
One player creates a private lobby. A small eye icon appears at the top of the screen. You press it to reveal a lobby code. Your friend enters that code, and you connect instantly.
4. Match Subscription Requirements
You need the relevant online subscription service depending on your platform.
You need:
• PS Plus on PS5
• Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate on Xbox
• No subscription for PC
Once that is set, you can join each other with ease.
Important Notes About Features on Different Platforms
Crossplay works well, but a few platform details are worth knowing so you understand what to expect.
Voice Recognition Differences
PC offers fully functional voice recognition. On consoles, some ghost communication tools rely on preset voice commands or button-triggered lines. The developers continue to refine this system, but at the moment you may notice differences if you swap between PC and console.
VR Compatibility
If you play on PC VR and your friend plays on PSVR2, both of you can join the same lobby. Your VR character model appears correctly to non-VR players too.
No Cross Progression
You cannot carry your progression or save data between platforms. If you move from PC to PS5 or from Xbox to PC, you start fresh. Your crossplay session does not reset your progress, it simply keeps each platform’s save file separate.
