Ghost of Yotei New Game Plus Explained – Is NG+ Coming to Sucker Punch’s Samurai Epic?

Atsu stands with a shamisen and katana, looking over a foggy landscape toward a snow-capped Mt. Fuji in Ghost of Yotei.

When Ghost of Yotei launched, it immediately drew players into its hauntingly beautiful world of snow-covered Ezo, vengeance, and redemption. But as players reach the end of Atsu’s journey, a pressing question emerges—does Ghost of Yotei have New Game Plus? After all, a world this breathtaking deserves to be revisited with all your hard-earned skills intact.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Ghost of Yotei New Game Plus mode, what happens after you finish the story, and whether Sucker Punch might introduce the feature in a future update.

Spoiler Note:
This guide contains light spoilers related to the ending structure of Ghost of Yotei and post-game content. If you haven’t completed the main story yet, consider finishing it before reading further.

Is There a New Game Plus in Ghost of Yotei?

As of its launch in October 2025, Ghost of Yotei does not include a New Game Plus mode. Once you complete the main storyline and defeat Lord Saito, the game rewinds time to roughly six months before the finale. This allows you to keep exploring the open world, finish side quests, tackle remaining bounties, and uncover hidden relics scattered across Ezo.

However, if you wish to replay the entire story from the beginning, you’ll need to start a new save file. Unfortunately, none of your previously acquired gear, techniques, or armor sets carry over into a second playthrough.

This mirrors the launch state of Ghost of Tsushima back in 2020, which also debuted without a New Game Plus. Sucker Punch later added that mode roughly three months after release, allowing players to re-experience Jin Sakai’s journey with all their progress intact. That precedent has fans hopeful that Ghost of Yotei could receive similar post-launch support.

Could New Game Plus Be Added Later?

While Sucker Punch Productions hasn’t confirmed New Game Plus yet, there’s good reason to expect it in a future update. Historically, the studio has expanded its samurai titles with generous post-launch features and content updates.

Ghost of Tsushima’s New Game Plus arrived alongside new charms, exclusive dyes, and a higher difficulty mode that encouraged mastery of its combat systems. If the team follows that pattern, Ghost of Yotei might receive its NG+ update by early 2026—offering a new reason for fans to return to Atsu’s blade.

Adding a New Game Plus mode would fit naturally with Yotei’s deep skill tree and evolving combat system. Many players have expressed that carrying over upgraded katanas, perfected stances, and mythic techniques would make a second playthrough even more rewarding.

What You Can Do After Beating Ghost of Yotei

Even without New Game Plus, Ghost of Yotei offers a wealth of post-game activities that extend well beyond the credits. Once the story concludes, you’re free to continue shaping your legend across the snowscapes of Northern Japan.

Here’s what awaits beyond the ending:

  • Complete Remaining Bounties: Visit bounty boards across Ezo to track down elusive enemies and earn rare materials.
  • Find Hidden Armor Sets: Legendary armor pieces like the Nine-Tail Armor or Spirit of the Onryo set can still be discovered through exploration and duels.
  • Master Bamboo Strikes: Completing all Bamboo Strike challenges maxes out your Spirit and sharpens Atsu’s blade techniques.
  • Relax at Hot Springs: Reflect on your journey while permanently boosting your health through Ezo’s serene hot springs.
  • Seek the Altars of Reflection: These mystical sites help you unlock every node of Atsu’s skill tree, shaping your playstyle further.
  • Clear the Yotei Six Camps: Free every region from oppression, eliminate lieutenants, and cement your legacy as the Onryo of Ezo.

The post-story world remains vibrant and alive—filled with stories, ruins, and whispered secrets waiting to be discovered.

How Long Does Ghost of Yotei Take to Complete?

The duration of Ghost of Yotei depends on how deeply you engage with its open world:

  • Main Story: 20–25 hours
  • Main + Side Quests: 35–50 hours
  • Completionist (100%): 60–70 hours

The game is divided into three main chapters, each opening new regions of Ezo. Like its predecessor, it emphasizes player freedom—you can hunt the Yotei Six in any order, forging your path through a land steeped in myth and blood.

Will New Game Plus Improve Replayability?

Absolutely. Ghost of Yotei’s intricate combat and progression system almost begs for a New Game Plus. Being able to carry over perfected parries, spirit abilities, and advanced stances would enhance the game’s challenge and depth.

Moreover, Sucker Punch has already confirmed post-launch content—most notably, the return of Legends, a co-op multiplayer mode expected sometime in 2026. It’s entirely possible that a New Game Plus update could launch alongside or just before it, rejuvenating both single-player and multiplayer interest.
