How to Buy Super Mario Bros. Wonder Switch 2 Edition

You have two options, depending on whether you already own the original Nintendo Switch version of the game.

If you are buying for the first time, you can purchase the full Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park digitally or physically at $79.99 / £66.99. This includes the complete original game plus all the new Switch 2 content.

If you already own Super Mario Bros. Wonder on Nintendo Switch, you can purchase the Upgrade Pack separately for $19.99 / £16.99. The Upgrade Pack requires the full Nintendo Switch version of the game to function and adds all the Switch 2 Edition content on top of your existing copy.

Both options are available now via the Nintendo eShop and physical retailers ahead of the March 26, 2026 launch.

What Is New in the Switch 2 Edition

The Switch 2 Edition is significantly more than a simple resolution upgrade. Nintendo has added a substantial amount of new content across both multiplayer and single-player modes, making this one of the more expansive Switch 2 Edition upgrades released so far.

New Characters

Rosalina joins the playable roster for the first time in this edition, bringing the total cast up from the original game’s lineup. She plays with the same abilities and power-ups as Mario and friends and works across both the main adventure and Bellabel Park.

Co-Star Luma is also available when two or more players join a session. Co-Star Luma cannot take damage or transform but actively helps by collecting coins and defeating enemies. Players can also control Co-Star Luma using mouse controls via a Joy-Con 2 controller, making it a flexible option for younger or less experienced players.

New Power-Up: Super Flower Pot

The Super Flower Pot is a brand new power-up exclusive to the Switch 2 Edition. It transforms Mario and friends into a flower form and allows them to launch large flowers upward to attack overhead enemies, adding a new angle to the game’s combat and platforming.

New Boss Battles: The Koopalings

All seven Koopalings now appear in the game. After the events of the main story, they scatter to different parts of the Flower Kingdom, and players need to track them down using in-game reports before taking them on in seven entirely new boss courses. This adds a meaningful layer of post-story content that the original Switch version did not have.

Double Badges

The badge system from the original game expands with the introduction of Dual Badges, which combine the effects of two badges into a single equippable item. Examples shown include the ability to both wall-climb higher and throw grappling vines simultaneously, opening up new approaches to traversal and combat across existing and new courses.

Assist Mode

A new Assist Mode makes the game fully accessible regardless of skill level. With Assist Mode active, characters become immune to all damage and will recover from falls instead of losing a life, removing the two most common frustrations for newer players without affecting the experience for those who want the standard challenge.

The biggest addition in the Switch 2 Edition is Bellabel Park, a brand new multiplayer area discovered by Captain Toad within the Flower Kingdom. The park serves as a social and competitive hub with a wide range of attractions across different modes.

Multiplayer Modes

ModePlayersType
Co-Op AttractionsUp to 4 (same system)Work together across 7 attractions
VS AttractionsUp to 4 (same system)Compete across 10 attractions
Game Room PlazaUp to 12 online / 8 local wirelessCompete across 6 attractions

In total, the park features 23 versus and co-op multiplayer modes, a substantial addition for players who enjoy competitive and cooperative play alongside the main campaign.

Toad Brigade Training Camp

The Toad Brigade Training Camp offers 74 separate challenges that unlock progressively as players advance through the main game. Completing challenges earns patches that contribute to a ranking system within the Toad Brigade. Players can take on the challenges solo or with up to three friends.

Bellabel Water and Park Customisation

Playing attractions and completing training missions earns Bellabel Water, which players spend to grow flowers and customise the park environment. Three types of flowers are available:

  • Decorative Flowers add visual decorations to beautify Bellabel Park.
  • Instrument Flowers grow band members and instruments for a Poplin Band concert.
  • Greeting Flowers unlock new greetings players can use when interacting with friends in the park.

Additionally, players can collect new instruments for the park band and unlock greetings for use when other players visit.

Technical Upgrades for Nintendo Switch 2

Beyond the new content, the Switch 2 Edition brings several hardware-specific improvements:

  • Up to 4K resolution when docked to a compatible TV
  • Smoother frame rates and faster load times throughout
  • Local wireless and LAN multiplayer options added
  • Online co-op expanded: up to four players on the same system can now play online together, with up to 11 live player shadows visible in a course (up from two players and three shadows in the original)
  • Mouse controls supported for Co-Star Luma via Joy-Con 2
  • GameShare support, allowing players without the game to join a session locally or online via GameChat

New Amiibo Figures

Three new Amiibo figures launch alongside the Switch 2 Edition on March 26. Compatible Amiibo from the Super Mario series can be tapped to receive power-ups in courses or decorations for the Bellabel Park Camp Area. The three new figures are:

  • Elephant Mario
  • Captain Toad and Talking Flower
  • Poplin and Prince Florian

All Amiibo are sold separately.
