Dutton Ranch Season 2’s Biggest Confirmed Change Isn’t the Cast—It’s the Showrunner
Despite speculation about possible cast exits, the most significant verified change for Season 2 is happening behind the camera.
According to reports from Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Chad Feehan, who served as co-creator, showrunner and executive producer during Season 1, will not return. His departure was reported in April 2026, before the series had even premiered.
Reports cited alleged friction with stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, who also serve as executive producers, along with other key figures including Taylor Sheridan and producer David Glasser. Sources indicated concerns centered on production management rather than Feehan’s scripts. Feehan had previously collaborated with Sheridan on Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
The vacancy has already been filled. On June 30, 2026, Benjamin Cavell was announced as the new showrunner and executive producer for Season 2.
