If you’ve been waiting to jump back into the brutal, communication-heavy warfare that made Hell Let Loose a fan favorite, the countdown is almost over. But this time, we’re leaving the battlefields of World War II behind and stepping into one of history’s most intense conflicts.

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is officially launching on August 13, 2026, and after getting hands-on through multiple public playtests, it’s safe to say this isn’t just a new map pack with jungle skins. Expression Games is bringing helicopters, river combat, underground tunnel networks, new movement mechanics, and an entirely fresh Vietnam War experience while keeping the tactical 50v50 gameplay that veterans already love.

The road to launch hasn’t been completely smooth, though. The game was delayed after its Open Beta, and players had plenty to say about performance, frame rates, and technical issues. Instead of rushing the release, the developers pushed the launch back to spend extra time polishing the experience.

So before deployment begins, here’s everything officially confirmed about Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, including its release date, supported platforms, pricing, crossplay support, launch features, beta impressions, and what players should realistically expect on day one.

If you’re deciding which role to main once you’re in, we already put together a full Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Best Roles Guide โ€“ Every Class Explained, Best Picks, Beginner Tips & Loadouts (2026), covering all 17 roles and which ones tend to matter most.

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Release Date

The official digital release date for Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is August 13, 2026.

Originally, the tactical shooter was scheduled to arrive on June 18, 2026. However, after reviewing community feedback from the Steam Open Beta, Team17 and Expression Games decided to delay the game by nearly two months.

According to the developers, the additional development time has been dedicated to improving overall gameplay quality, fixing stability issues, increasing performance, and polishing the final release.

Here’s how the launch timeline changed:

Physical editions have also been confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Earlier announcements listed August 4, 2026 as the boxed release date. However, after the digital version was delayed, the developers have not officially confirmed whether the physical release schedule has also changed.

If you’re trying to keep track of everything else coming out around the same window, we put together All Games Releasing in August 2026: Every Major Confirmed Release Date You Need to Know, which lays out the full month.

One of the biggest additions coming with Vietnam is full cross-platform multiplayer.

During the July Crossplay Playtest, Expression Games successfully tested matchmaking between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. At the same time, players who preferred staying within the console ecosystem could join dedicated console-only servers, giving PlayStation and Xbox users the choice to avoid PC matchmaking.

Based on the latest information, this crossplay functionality is expected to be available when the game launches.

What to Expect When Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Launches

This isn’t just the original Hell Let Loose dropped into a jungle. The Vietnam setting changes the pace of combat while introducing entirely new ways to fight.

According to official feature announcements and multiple public playtests, players can expect:

  • Massive 50v50 multiplayer battles
  • Six large-scale maps inspired by real-world Vietnam War locations
  • Two playable factions:
    • US Armed Forces
    • North Vietnamese Army (NVA)
  • Historically inspired weapons
  • Authentic military vehicles
  • Fully operational helicopters
  • Patrol boats for river combat
  • Buildable NVA tunnel networks
  • Enhanced movement systems including:
    • Swimming
    • Climbing
    • Fast crawling
    • Dragging wounded teammates
  • Seventeen specialized battlefield roles
  • Warfare mode
  • Offensive mode
  • Additional multiplayer modes

The game is also powered by Unreal Engine 5, allowing for larger battlefields and upgraded visuals. However, the engine was also one of the biggest talking points during public testing because several players reported performance-related issues.

Despite the visual improvements, the heart of Hell Let Loose remains unchanged. Teamwork, communication, leadership, and squad coordination are still the keys to victory. Charging into battle alone is still one of the fastest ways to end up back at the spawn screen.

We covered a different multiplayer game’s own community backlash recently in Overwatch Just Pulled the Plug on Stadium’s Support, and the Community Isn’t Buying One Simple Explanation, if you’re following that story as well.

What the Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Betas Revealed

Before locking in the final build, Expression Games gave players multiple chances to test the game through the Steam Open Beta and a later Crossplay Playtest spanning PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

These tests offered the clearest look yet at what the full release will feel likeโ€”and the community didn’t hold back with its feedback.

The good news? Players seemed to agree that the core gameplay already captures everything fans love about Hell Let Loose. The less exciting news? The technical side still had some work to do.

Let’s break down what stood out the most.

For a change of pace, we also covered a much lighter multiplayer release in Dear Passengers Might Be the Funniest Way to Ruin a Flight With Your Friends in 2026, in case you want something more chaotic to jump into between matches.

What Players Loved During the Betas

If there’s one thing the playtests proved, it’s that the move to Vietnam feels like a natural evolution for the franchise rather than a complete reinvention.

Across both testing phases, players consistently praised:

  • The authentic Vietnam War atmosphere
  • Dense jungle battlefields that completely changed combat
  • Large-scale 50v50 tactical warfare
  • Fully operational helicopters
  • Patrol boats for river combat
  • The new NVA tunnel network mechanics
  • Communication-focused gameplay that rewards teamwork
  • Full cross-platform multiplayer support

For longtime Hell Let Loose players, the gameplay loop felt familiar in all the right ways while introducing mechanics that genuinely fit the Vietnam setting instead of feeling gimmicky.

Whether squads were pushing through thick jungle, coordinating helicopter insertions, or using tunnel networks to outmaneuver the enemy, the new battlefield created plenty of memorable moments during testing.

The Biggest Concerns Before Launch

While gameplay received plenty of praise, the technical experience sparked much more discussion.

During the Steam Open Beta, players reported several issues, including:

  • Performance drops
  • Inconsistent frame rates
  • Texture streaming problems
  • AMD GPU stability issues
  • Server desynchronization

These weren’t minor complaints either. Because Hell Let Loose relies so heavily on communication and precise teamwork, any performance hiccups could have a noticeable impact during large-scale battles.

The feedback was significant enough that the developers chose to delay the game’s original June launch in order to focus on improvements before release.

On the subject of community backlash toward developer decisions, we also wrote about Rockstar Removes Fan-Favorite GTA Online Mission After Players Discover a Money Glitch, which is worth a read if you play GTA Online.

Progress Made During the Crossplay Playtest

The later Crossplay Playtest showed encouraging signs.

According to Expression Games, performance had improved compared to the earlier Open Beta, suggesting that the additional development time was already making a difference.

That said, not every issue had been eliminated.

Several items still appeared on the official Known Issues list, with one standing above all the others.

We also wrote up the full picture on pricing and pre-order details for another upcoming release in Beast of Reincarnation Release Date, Platforms, Game Pass, Price, Pre-Order Bonuses & Everything You Need Before Launch, if that’s one you’re also watching closely.

VOIP Became the Team’s Biggest Priority

Communication is the backbone of every Hell Let Loose match, so it wasn’t surprising that voice chat quickly became the developers’ top concern.

Following the game’s transition to Epic Online Services for voice communication, some players experienced noticeable VOIP distortion during testing.

Expression Games identified this as its highest-priority issue ahead of launch.

Beyond voice communication, the developers also acknowledged several remaining areas that still required additional polish, including:

  • Occasional FPS drops during large battles
  • AMD-related crashes
  • User interface improvements
  • Lighting refinements
  • Localization fixes
  • General graphical polish

The fact that these issues were publicly documented gave players a clearer picture of what the studio was still working on before release.

Overall Expectations Before Launch

After multiple rounds of public testing, one thing has become pretty clear.

The biggest question surrounding Hell Let Loose: Vietnam isn’t whether the gameplay works.

From helicopters and patrol boats to tunnel warfare and massive jungle firefights, the core experience has already impressed many players who participated in the betas. The tactical gameplay, communication-focused battles, and large-scale maps all received strong praise throughout testing.

Instead, the final verdict will likely come down to technical performance.

The extra two-month delay has been spent improving stability, optimizing performance, and resolving voice communication issues rather than redesigning gameplay systems. That’s an encouraging sign, especially since the foundation already appears solid.

If the final release successfully delivers the performance, stability, and VOIP improvements the developers have been targeting, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam has every opportunity to become the biggest evolution of the franchise so far.

For fans of realistic military shooters, August 13 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated launches of the year. The battlefield is ready, the helicopters are fueled, the tunnel networks are waiting beneath the jungle, and now all that’s left is to see whether the final build can live up to the hype created throughout months of public testing.
