Hollow Knight: Silksong – How to Get the Wanderer Crest (Location & Guide)

A full-screen in-game image from Hollow Knight: Silksong showing Hornet, the main character, standing on a round platform. Above her is the large, glowing outline of the Wanderer Crest. The crest is an ornate, lyre-like design with a small circular emblem at its center. The scene is set in what appears to be a chapel with tall, ornate columns and candelabra with lit flames on both sides, creating an atmosphere of reverence and ceremony. The screen is filled with a soft glow, and the overall color palette is dark and moody with highlights of red and gold.

Among the many treasures hidden within Hollow Knight: Silksong, few feel as emblematic of Hornet’s journey as the Wanderer Crest. More than just an early-game upgrade, this Crest is a nod to the swiftness and precision that defines Hornet’s fighting style. If you’re wondering where to find the Wanderer Crest and how best to use it, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know—step by step.

What the Wanderer Crest Does in Silksong?

Equipping the Wanderer Crest changes the way Hornet engages in combat:

  • Attack Style: Strikes are shorter in reach but delivered with greater speed, allowing Hornet to weave in and out of danger fluidly.
  • Special Effect: When Hornet has enough Silk to Bind (nine or more threads), attacks carry a small chance to land a critical hit—dealing triple damage. These rare bursts of power are accompanied by a flash and sound cue.
  • Slots Provided:
    • 1 Red Tool slot (offensive)
    • 2 Yellow Tool slots (exploration)
  • Playstyle Shift: The Crest encourages nimble play, rewarding players who thrive on precision and quick engagements rather than raw reach.

The aerial down-slash in particular feels reminiscent of the original Hollow Knight, letting you bounce off enemies and obstacles without any awkward delay.

How to Get the Wanderer Crest in Silksong?

The Wanderer Crest is found in the Chapel of the Wanderer, hidden deep within Pharloom. Reaching it requires preparation, some resource gathering, and a bit of determination. Here’s the route:

A screenshot from Hollow Knight: Silksong's in-game menu. The screen is black, with a large, white, and clean line art depiction of the Wanderer Crest at its center. Below the crest, text reads "Bound the Crest of WANDERER," followed by a description of its effects: "Cut swiftly and nimbly with short, precise strikes." At the bottom, a prompt instructs the player to open the "Crest screen of the Menu while resting at a bench" to change the crest.

Step 1 – Unlock Prerequisites

Before venturing toward the Chapel, you’ll need to have:

  1. Silkspear (from Mosshome).
  2. Defeated the Bell Beast (in The Marrow).
  3. Swift Step ability (earned in Deep Docks).

These abilities are crucial for mobility and combat along the way.

Step 2 – Acquire a Simple Key

A Simple Key is required to enter the Wormways, the passage leading to the Crest:

  • Visit Pebb in Bone Bottom, who sells the Simple Key for 500 Rosaries.
  • Short on Rosaries? Farm them at the border between Mosshome and The Marrow. Rest at the Bench, clear the chamber of bugs, and repeat until you have enough currency.

Step 3 – Enter the Wormways

With the key in hand:

  • Take the Bone Bottom elevator up toward Mosshome (if unlocked).
  • If not, head west through The Marrow and use Swift Step to cross gaps and cages.
  • Eventually, you’ll arrive at a locked gate—use the Simple Key to enter the Wormways.

Step 4 – Descend Through the Wormways

Inside the Wormways:

  • Drop down the first pit and follow the tunnels.
  • Be mindful of worms bursting from ceilings—time your drops carefully.
  • Keep right, eventually emerging into a moss-covered chamber.
  • Fall all the way into the water below and move left until you find a hut.

Step 5 – Survive the Enemy Rush

Inside the hut lies one final trial:

  • Fight through four waves of pilgrim enemies, including rollers in the last round.
  • Use Silkspear to group enemies and dispatch them efficiently.

Once you clear the rush, the path opens into the Chapel of the Wanderer. Interact with the fallen figure on the altar and Bind to claim the Wanderer Crest.

The map is in a dark, parchment-like style and shows a portion of the game world with several named locations, including "SHELLWOOD," "WORMWAYS," "MOSSHOME," "MOSS GROTTO," "BONE BOTTOM," and "THE MARROW." A prominent white circle and arrow highlight the "Bonegrave" area, located in the lower-left section of the map, indicating the starting point or key location for a player's journey.

Why is it Useful?

The Wanderer Crest excels at:

  • High Damage Potential – Faster strikes mean more opportunities to deal damage in a short window.
  • Exploration – Extra Yellow Tool slots pair well with charms that boost traversal and resource gathering.
  • Parrying – The rapid attack speed makes it easier to intercept or negate enemy flurries.

However, its reduced range forces you into closer quarters, which can be punishing against airborne or long-reaching foes. It’s a Crest that rewards mastery: less forgiving than the Hunter Crest, but more satisfying for those who adapt.

Tips and Synergies

  • Pair with Magnetite Dice to slightly increase your critical hit chance.
  • Use exploration Tools like Silkspeed Anklets or Magnetite Brooch to take full advantage of the extra Yellow slots.
  • For combat balance, consider saving your Red slot for utility rather than damage—since the Crest’s speed already boosts offense.
