In Hollow Knight: Silksong, the world of Pharloom is alive not just with perilous terrain, but with creatures that tell the story of the kingdom itself. Each enemy you encounter is part of a larger ecosystem, carrying lore and behaviors that enrich your understanding of the land. The Hunter’s Journal, also called the bestiary, is designed to help players catalog these creatures. It transforms every battle into a learning experience and allows exploration to become an act of discovery rather than simply survival. Unlocking the Journal is a key step in immersing yourself fully in Silksong’s world.

Finding the Bestiary in Silksong

The Hunter’s Journal is located in Greymoor, a region designed to reward careful exploration and observation. Players are encouraged to look beyond the obvious paths, reflecting Silksong’s philosophy that meaningful rewards often lie slightly off the beaten track.

Steps to Find the Journal:

  • Enter Greymoor from the Far Fields.
  • Move left until you spot a glowing building, the Halfway Home.
  • The right-hand entrance is sealed. Climb over the building to enter from the left-hand side.

By requiring this small detour, Silksong encourages players to engage actively with the environment rather than simply rushing through it.

Inside the Halfway Home and Meeting Nuu

The Halfway Home provides a safe haven and introduces Nuu, the NPC who links combat with lore. This area is designed to offer rest, resources, and narrative depth before players continue exploring Pharloom.

Inside the Halfway Home, you need to:

  • Bar: Purchase a drink for 10 Rosaries to refill Silk and Masks.
  • Bench: Located above the exit door, allowing you to rest and save progress.
  • Nuu: The friendly NPC who provides the Hunter’s Journal and initiates the Bugs of Pharloom Wish.

Speaking with Nuu is both a narrative and gameplay milestone. She gifts the Journal and tasks you with defeating 100 unique enemies, turning the bestiary into a long-term exploration and combat challenge.

Using the Hunter’s Journal

The Hunter’s Journal is designed to encourage deeper interaction with Pharloom’s creatures. It rewards observation, persistence, and engagement, turning each encounter into a meaningful experience.

How the Journal Works:

  • Accessible at any time from the main menu.
  • Automatically records new enemies you encounter.
  • Defeat the same enemy multiple times to unlock expanded lore entries, revealing their habits, ecology, and place in the world.

This system encourages players to study even the smallest creatures, enriching the experience of exploration and combat.

Significance of the Bestiary

The Hunter’s Journal plays a key role in Silksong.

  • For explorers: It acts as a guide to unseen regions and creatures.
  • For lore enthusiasts: Each entry reveals hidden stories and connections between Pharloom’s inhabitants.
  • For completionists and challenge seekers: The Bugs of Pharloom Wish provides a structured goal and encourages mastery of combat mechanics.

By documenting enemies, players can create a personal record of their journey through Pharloom. Each skirmish becomes a story, every creature a character, and the world itself feels more alive and coherent.
