Hollow Knight: Silksong Fanart of Hornet and a Character with a Green Potion

In the strange and shimmering kingdom of Pharloom, quests are rarely simple errands. The Great Taste of Pharloom, one of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s most elaborate wishes, is proof of that. Loyal Mergwin, servant of the Grand Gourmand, longs to prepare a legendary dish worthy of his master’s appetite. But to do so, Hornet must gather five unique ingredients scattered across the land.

It is a journey of patience, combat, and precision platforming—culminating in one of the toughest delivery challenges in the game. If you’re wondering how to find each ingredient and how to safely carry the notorious Courier’s Rasher, this guide will walk you through the entire quest.

How to Start the Great Taste of Pharloom Quest?

You’ll first encounter this quest in the Choral Chambers. From the Cog Core, drop down two rooms into the dining hall where Mergwin waits. Speak to him, and he’ll ask you to recover the five ingredients:

  • Mossberry Stew
  • Vintage Nectar
  • Crustnut
  • Pickled Muckmaggot
  • Courier’s Rasher

Bring them all back, and the reward will be more than worth the trouble—Pale Oil, an essential upgrade material for Hornet’s needle.

Mossberry Stew Location

The easiest ingredient by far. Head to Mosshome, in the eastern reaches near The Marrow. There you’ll find the Moss Druid.

If you haven’t completed her Berry Picking Wish, she may hold back the stew until you do. Once finished, she’ll happily hand you the Mossberry Stew. No combat, no puzzles—just a simple kindness.

Vintage Nectar Location

For this delicacy, prepare your wallet. You’ll need 480 Rosaries. Travel to Greymoor and stop by the Halfway House, an inn marked with benches and wandering travelers.

Speak to Creig, who offers the Vintage Nectar for sale. However, he’ll send you into the cellar to retrieve it yourself. Once you descend, you’ll be ambushed by waves of ant-like enemies. The second wave brings a Skarrgard, so save your best moves for last. Defeat them all, then collect the nectar and report back to Creig.

Crustnut Location

The Crustnut lies hidden in the Sands of Karak, an arid expanse perched above the Blasted Steps. You’ll need both Double Jump and Clawline to even attempt this trek.

From the Pinstress’s balloon in the Blasted Steps, use the Clawline to ascend into the sands. The main mechanic here involves striking glowing orbs to grow branches, creating paths through spike-filled caverns.

Look out for a tall chamber with destructible floors—smash through to unlock a shortcut back to the Blasted Steps. This will save you a lot of time if you fail. Keep climbing and push leftward through spiked-ball platforming challenges until you find the Crustnut, tucked safely beyond the traps.

Pickled Muckmaggot Location

Make your way to Sinner’s Road, an ominous path above Greymoor. Again, you’ll need Double Jump to reach the right chamber.

Here you’ll face Disgraced Chef Lugoli, a grotesque boss armed with muck and maggot-based attacks. The arena is dangerous, not least because standing in muck drains your silk. Lugoli fights with heavy swings and a second-phase frenzy, but with careful pattern recognition, you’ll eventually bring him down.

As for your reward, it will be the oddly charming Pickled Muckmaggot.

Courier’s Rasher Location & Delivery Challenge

And now, the true test. The Courier’s Rasher is as infamous as Hollow Knight’s Delicate Flower quest—fragile, time-limited, and merciless.

First, complete two side wishes in Bellhart:

  • My Missing Courier
  • My Missing Brother

These unlock Courier Deliveries and allow you to attempt the Rasher run.

Your task: deliver the Courier’s Rasher from Bellhart all the way to Mergwin in the Choral Chambers without:

  • Using the Bellway (fast travel)
  • Taking too much damage
  • Running out of delivery time

Best Route for Courier’s Rasher in Silksong

The safest path runs:
Bellhart → Shellwood → Blasted Steps → Grand Gate → Choral Chambers

Tips for success:

  • Prepare your checkpoint: Rest at the Bellhart bench before taking the Rasher. If you fail, you’ll respawn nearby.
  • Equip Silkspeed Anklets: These increase your movement speed, though they drain silk. Fortunately, you’ll recover silk while climbing.
  • Skip hazards smartly: In Shellwood, use Clawline over water instead of gliding. In the Blasted Steps, chain Double Jumps and Clawline to bypass spike cages.
  • Look for shortcuts: At the Grand Gate, use the broken wall on the right-hand side to shave off precious seconds. Watch out for a deadly saw blade inside.
  • Watch enemies in the Choral Chambers: Equip the Cogfly Tool to swat enemies while sprinting. Don’t lose momentum here.

When you finally burst into the dining hall with the Rasher intact, Mergwin will gratefully accept the delivery.

Great Taste of Pharloom Quest Reward: Pale Oil

Once all five ingredients are gathered, Mergwin will prepare the dish for his master. As thanks, he grants Hornet Pale Oil, which allows another upgrade to the Needle. Considering the ordeal—especially the Rasher delivery—it’s a well-earned prize.
