The Dragonfly Armor quest in Ghost of Yotei is one of those early tales that blends character, skill, and quiet tension into a single thread. Found in the Tokachi Range, this side story introduces not only one of Atsu’s first unique armor sets but also a new pastime — Zeni Hajiki, a coin-flicking gambling game that tests precision and patience as much as any duel.

In This Post:

How to Start The Dragonfly Armor Quest

Your first encounter begins by the riverbanks of Tokachi Range, where a man named Daijiro is being pursued by a ronin. Step in to save him and he promises a rare suit of armor as thanks. But like many travelers in Ezo, Daijiro’s words are only the beginning of a longer story. He asks you to meet him again at Huranui’s Rest Inn, where he’ll supposedly deliver the reward he owes.

Follow the river south, and you’ll find the inn tucked behind a cluster of birch trees, smoke rising faintly above its roof. Inside, Daijiro invites you to sit — not for the armor yet, but for a round of Zeni Hajiki, a local coin-flicking game that offers both coin and pride as prizes.

How to Play Zeni Hajiki

Zeni Hajiki is simple in theory but tricky in motion. Coins are scattered across the table. Your goal is to flick one coin into another — cleanly and precisely. Touch more than one or knock a coin off the edge, and you lose your turn.

Winning demands a steady hand. Use the adaptive triggers to adjust the flick’s power. Daijiro is no novice, but he’s prone to overconfidence. If you stay patient and measured, you’ll outlast him easily. Whether you win or lose, though, the game ends the same way: Daijiro bolts out the window, right into the arms of more ronin waiting outside.

Rescuing Daijiro at Horosaru Falls

Your next objective leads you to Horosaru Falls, north along the Nupur River. The path winds through pine forests and slippery stones, echoing with the sound of rushing water. Daijiro has been captured again, this time by a group of bounty hunters.

You can approach this camp in two ways:

  • Silent Route: Climb the southern cliff ladder, move through tall grass, and pick off guards quietly.
  • Direct Route: Draw your blade and storm the camp head-on.

There are only a few ronin to deal with, though the stronger ones near Daijiro may resist silent kills unless you’ve upgraded your stealth. Once they’re defeated, free Daijiro and rest by the fire together. It’s here that he reveals the truth behind the armor — his past, his betrayal, and his hope that Atsu might wear the armor to restore a measure of honor.

Defending Daijiro

As dawn breaks, Daijiro warns that Saito’s Outlaws are on their way. Hide in the tall grass overlooking the camp and wait for his signal. When he says “maple tree,” it’s time to strike.

There are six or seven enemies, including an armored captain and archers by the gate. Use your bow for the opening strike, then rush the archers to prevent them from flanking you. Quickfire tools like Metsubushi are invaluable here for stunning captains and creating openings.

Keep an eye on Daijiro — if enemies reach him, you’ll see a skull icon above their heads. Protect him at all costs. Once the last outlaw falls, Daijiro will finally make good on his word and present the Dragonfly Armor.
