The side mission “A Traitor Within” in Borderlands 4 is one of the highlights of the Electi questline. How to Unlock the Mission?
Before this quest becomes available, you need to progress through the Electi storyline. Complete these missions in order:
- Enter the Electi Part 1
- Enter the Electi Part 2
- The Council Divided
Once these are done, speak with Levaine in Carcadia’s eastern district, southeast of the Ruined Sumplands. She will brief you on the suspicions of a mole within the Electi and send you on your way.
Step 1: Deliver Food
Levaine’s first request is simple enough: collect food supplies for the Electi. The task takes place north of Woncewas Townhouse, where you will encounter hostile wildlife.
Key objectives:
- Defeat Threshers in the area and collect 4 Thresher Eggs.
- Afterward, Pangolins will appear. Kill them and collect 3 Pangolin Spit.
- Be ready for an Order ambush once the final spit is gathered. Eliminate the attackers.
- Deliver the collected food to Moxxi’s Bar in the Ruined Sumplands. Place the items on the bar counter.
Tip: Bring plenty of ammo before starting. The ambush after the Pangolin fight can be dangerous if you’re already low on supplies.
Step 2: Explore the Cave
With the food delivered, the mission pivots toward the heart of the Electi’s troubles. You’ll be investigating suspicious activity northwest of Tonnage Peel, in Quisling’s Cave.
Key objectives:
- Enter the cave and clear out the Rippers. Collect the Bitter Plotter ECHO Log from the final enemy.
- Move deeper into the cave and eliminate the Kratch that guard the path.
- Watch for Levaine’s Grapple Drones above you. Use them to cross large gaps and reach higher platforms.
- Follow the path until you arrive at an underground facility, the hiding place of the traitor.
Tip: Keep an eye on the drones overhead. Missing their placement can leave you stranded or force you to backtrack.
Step 3: Take the Drive
Inside the facility, you will come face to face with both enemies and the traitor’s final defenses.
Key objectives:
- Defeat waves of Order soldiers. Be prepared for a tough fight, including a Brute Electi with shields and armor.
- Use the Grapple Drone on the north wall to climb into the cockpit.
- Interact with the console and pull the lever to begin Willem’s Node Puzzle.
Solving Willem’s Node Puzzle
The puzzle projects a hologram of red triangles and blue prisms. To progress, you need to align each red triangle with the blue prisms behind it, then shoot the triangle. Incorrect shots do nothing, so accuracy is key.
Puzzle solution:
- First Node: Align from directly in front of the console switch.
- Second Node: Move to the upper-left corner of the cockpit.
- Third Node: Stand beside Levaine on the stairs to her left.
- Fourth Node: Climb onto the boxes in the lower-right corner of the cockpit.
Tip: Use precise, single-shot weapons like assault rifles, SMGs, or pistols. Avoid shotguns or explosives, which lack the accuracy needed. Look for your crosshair to turn red, confirming you are lined up correctly.
After all four nodes are destroyed, retrieve the micro-drive from the console and hand it to Levaine to complete the mission.
