Palworld: How to Get Ancient Bone in 1.0 (Wildlife Sanctuary Location and Mining Guide)

When I first went looking for Ancient Bone in Palworld, I genuinely thought it might be a random drop from some late-game boss, but it turns out you don’t need to fight anything at all! You just need to know exactly which biome to head to and what to actually look for once you’re there. Since the material only comes from one specific area, this one’s less about combat and more about knowing the map.

Since the material only comes from one specific area, this one’s less about combat and more about knowing the map, similar to how our guide on Palworld: Where to Find Nightstar Sand in 1.0 (Locations, Farming Tips, and the Glowing Bug) is really just about learning the right beaches to check at night.

So, this walkthrough is going to be a relatively simple one. Here is everything laid out for you in the simplest way I could explain:

What is Ancient Bone & Where to find it?

Ancient Bone is a late-game crafting material which was added as part of the 1.0 release. You can use it to craft high-tier accessories for your characters and Pals, including emblems, rings, and charms.

Where to Find This Crafting Material?

Now that you know how useful this resource is, it’s time to reveal where exactly you can find it!

So, the Ancient Bone can only be obtained by mining the large bones found in the No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary. This is located just east of The Furthest Flats.

But keep in mind, there’s no fast travel point directly inside any Wildlife Sanctuary, so you’ll need to fast travel to the nearest point you have unlocked, then either swim or fly the rest of the way in on a Swimming Pal or Flying Pal.

Once you’re actually in the sanctuary, you need to find large fossil-like rock formations rather than regular ore nodes. You can recognize them easily as they look like a spine with a rib cage sticking out, So, if you’re wandering around and spot something that looks more like a fossil than a boulder, that’s your target!

Don’t worry about memorizing one single spot either. These bone formations spawn fairly frequently throughout the biome, so once you’re in the right area, you should run into more than one.

If you’re farming this with friends, it’s worth having voice chat sorted beforehand so someone can call out formations as they spot them, and our breakdown of Palworld 1.0 Multiplayer: Voice Chat, Improved Text Chat, and Everything Else That Changed covers exactly how that works now.

What You Need to Mine It

The most efficient tool for farming Ancient Bone is the Plasma Multicutter. That being said, if you don’t have it yet, a regular Pickaxe will do the job for you, but of course there is a catch. Here’s how different Pickaxe options scale out your drops:

PickaxePlayer Level RequiredMaterials Needed
Stone Pickaxe15x Stone, 5x Wood
Metal Pickaxe1115x Stone, 20x Wood, 15x Ingot
Refined Metal Pickaxe3430x Stone, 4x Wooden Board, 10x Refined Ingot
Pal Metal Pickaxe44100x Stone, 10x High Quality Wooden Board, 10x Pal Metal Ingot, 5x Corrosive Solvent

Basically, the better your Pickaxe, the more Bones you’ll get per formation, so it’s worth upgrading before you make the trip if you’re planning to farm a large batch in one go.

Since a couple of these recipes call for Wooden Board and its higher-tier version, our guide on How To Make Wooden Board In Palworld 1.0? is worth a look if you haven’t unlocked a steady source of it yet.

What Ancient Bone Is Used For

Right now, Ancient Bone doesn’t feed into any Technology or Weapons, but it’s a key ingredient for several Armor pieces:

  • Air Walker EX
  • Air Walker Mk III
  • Dogen Emblem
  • Phantom Ring
  • Silvegis Emblem
  • Vanguard Charm
  • Wandering Merchant Charm

So if you’ve been holding off on unlocking any of those, this is the material standing between you and them.

So, this is all you need to know to get your hands on this interesting-looking resource. Once you know to head for Sanctuary No. 3, just keep an eye out for those rib-cage-shaped rocks. And don’t worry about your server location; the spot for finding them is the same for players in the US, UK, and other parts of the world.

If you’re playing across different platforms with friends, it’s worth confirming everyone can actually join the same session first, and our guide on Is Palworld Crossplay in 2026? Full Cross-Platform Guide for PC, PS5, and Xbox covers what’s currently supported.

I will update this guide if any other insights are revealed about this resource. Bye for now! I will meet you in the next guide.
