If you’ve cracked open the tech tree since the 1.0 update dropped, you’ve probably run into Wooden Board. This is a new materia that shows up everywhere from base furniture to weapon crafting. While it is one of the simpler resources to craft once you know the recipe, there is an ongoing bug that may prevent you from doing so. So, I will be explaining how to craft this resource and how to work around the bug if you are facing any issues.

What Is Wooden Board Used For?
The purpose of Wooden Board is clearly mentioned in its description “planks made from processed Wood for easier use,”. The best part about this item is its versatility! It is a lot more practical than those boring raw logs. It’s exclusive to the Version 1.0 update, so if you’re returning after a break, this is a brand new addition you won’t recognize from earlier versions.
This material shows up across a huge number of recipes, including base technologies like the Breeding Farm, Cooking Pot, Fishing Pond, Clinic, Mill, Production Assembly Line, Weapon Assembly Line, and various furniture pieces like tables, desks, and pianos. It’s also required for several weapons, including the Musket, Primitive Sword, Sword, Refined Metal Axe, and Refined Metal Pickaxe.
With the limited hours I have put in the game so far, I can tell you one thing for sure. You’re going to need a steady supply of this early on, since it gates a large chunk of the tech tree.

What Do You Need To Craft Wooden Board?
Before you can start crafting your wooden boards, you need to make sure you have unlocked the Technology tree. To do so, you need to be on at least Player Level 15. Here is a quick overview of the requirements:
- Player Level 15 or higher
- Unlocked through the Technology tree node
- Crafted at Primitive Workbench or any higher-tier station
Now that you know that you have unlocked this mid game resource, here is the recipe to craft it:

| Fiber | 5 |
| Nail | 1 |
Once you have all these items, you need to head to the Primitive Workbench and craft away! Wood and Fiber are both things you’ll likely already have in abundance just from regular gathering. But there is one tricky ingredient that actually requires a bit of extra setup on your part, and it’s the Nail!

How To Get Nails For Crafting
Nails come from Iron Ingots, which means you’ll need a small production chain running before you can make Wooden Board consistently:
- Set up a Primitive Furnace
- Gather Ore, which you can get from regular rocks, though the spikier, more colorful looking rocks tend to be a reliable source
- Have a Pal working the furnace to smelt that ore into Iron Ingots, a Pal like Foxparks works great for this early on
- Use those Iron Ingots to craft Nails
Once this chain is running, you’ll have a steady stream of Nails feeding into your Wooden Board production, and from there, you can craft as many boards as you actually need. I highly recommend to not delay this setup as it will make your gameplay very sluggish.

How to Unlock and Craft Wooden Board
Now that you have everything you need, you should know that the entire process operates through the Technology tree and a single workbench. So, once you are at the right level, it only takes a couple of minutes to get going:
- Step 1: Open the Technology menu where all the 1.0 recipe unlocks live
- Step 2: Scroll down the tree to the level 15 tier where the Wooden Board node sits
- Step 3: Spend your tech point to learn the recipe so it appears in your crafting lists
- Step 4: Open a Primitive Workbench or any higher-tier station
- Step 5: Load in your Wood, Fiber, and Nails
- Step 6: Craft your Wooden Boards and keep a steady stock going
And voila! Now you have your very own setup to make as many wooden boards as you want to make.

Now, here is the real issue for many players in the US, UK, and other regions right now. If you’ve unlocked the tech but can’t find the actual crafting option anywhere, there is actually a reason behind it.
I spoke to several players who revealed about them researching the Wooden Board technology at Level 15, only to find it completely missing from both the Primitive Workbench and the High-Quality Workbench. So, if you’re hitting this exact problem, you’re not alone, and there’s a specific reason behind it for most players (as far as I know).
The most common culprit: leftover mods
You read that right! Based on online reports and my in-depth discussions with other players, I came to the conclusion that this bug is frequently tied to mods. Yes, even the ones you’ve since disabled or removed. Specific mods confirmed to cause this issue include:
- “Food no spoil” mods
- “x10 ammo and spheres” type mods
Unfortunately, simply disabling a problematic mod will not always fix this problem you are facing. However, this fix has worked consistently for almost all players I have spoken to:
- Remove all mods completely. Yes, don’t just disable them
- Go to Steam, right-click Palworld, go to Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
- Launch the game and check your workbenches again
Ideally, performing these two steps should take care of the issue and the Wooden Board recipe will appear correctly afterward..
Where to actually check if the recipe is working
If you’re still not seeing the recipe after cleaning up mods, just double-check you’re looking in the right spot. Wooden Board appears in the High-Quality Workbench once you’ve researched Technology Level 15, so make sure you’re checking that bench rather than only the Primitive Workbench or the building menu’s wooden structure set, which is a completely different, unrelated item despite the similar name.

Don’t Confuse It With High Quality Wooden Board
Once you’re deeper into the tech tree, you’ll also run into a separate, upgraded material called High Quality Wooden Board, which requires a different ingredient entirely: Hardwood. This becomes craftable once you hit Technology Level 43, and needs 10 Hardwood per board.
One thing you should know is that Hardwood itself isn’t available everywhere on the map. As much as I know, you’ll find it specifically in two locations only:
- Twilight Dunes, dropping from the twisting, spiky-leaved trees found there, accessible via the Anubis Dunes fast travel point northeast of the Anubis statue and boss arena
- Around the Dancing Sakura Shrine, dropping from Sakura trees with red or white trunks, accessible via the Moonflower Tower Entrance fast travel point northwest of the Sakurajima Watchtower statue
The great news is that you don’t need any special tool to harvest it either; a standard Metal Axe will easily do the job for you. Since High Quality Wooden Board only unlocks later in the tech tree, focus on regular Wooden Board first and worry about Hardwood once you’re closer to level 43.
