We all remember when Palworld first hit Early Access back on January 18, 2024. The concept and the design of the game got a ton of love, plus a fair bit of controversy along the way. Now, after more than two years, Palworld is finally becoming the complete game Pocketpair always promised. The full Version 1.0 update is coming on July 10, 2026, and trust me, this is not some small patch with a fresh version number slapped on top. We are talking about a new endgame zone, new combat tools, and a changelog that runs on for dozens of pages.
So, with only a week remaining for the release, let us brush up on everything we can expect from the Open-World Survival.
When Does Palworld 1.0 Release?
Mark your calendar for Friday, July 10, 2026. That’s when Palworld 1.0 drops on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass, all at the same time. Pocketpair dropped this news during Summer Game Fest 2026, alongside the game’s very first cinematic trailer:
However, there is a minor catch! Since Pocketpair is based in Japan, the official launch runs on Japan Standard Time. That means the exact moment the update goes live will look different depending on where you live. Pocketpair has not confirmed an official release time for US and UK time zones either.

Will Palworld 1.0 Be Free For Existing Players?
Good news! Yes, Palworld 1.0 will be completely free for you if you already own the Early Access version. Whether you have Palworld on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox, or Game Pass, you get Version 1.0 without spending another penny. Your existing save files carry over too, so nothing gets wiped.
That being said, Pocketpair is also encouraging players toward starting a fresh save if you want the best possible 1.0 experience. This makes sense, since the update reworks progression and adds new systems that might feel a bit disconnected if you just bolt them onto an old, fully built world.
What Platforms Support Palworld 1.0?
Palworld’s full release will be available on all these platforms:
- PC through Steam and Microsoft Store
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
- Xbox Game Pass, included at no extra cost
However, Palworld 1.0 is not coming to Nintendo Switch or Switch 2. The ongoing legal battle between Pocketpair and Nintendo has basically ruled out a Switch port for now, and Pocketpair hasn’t hinted that this will change anytime soon.
What’s Actually New In Version 1.0?
This is the part that really earns Palworld 1.0 its reputation as the game’s biggest moment since launch. Pocketpair’s global communications lead, John “Bucky” Buckley, confirmed the patch notes stretch across 27 full pages, and he described this update as “bigger in scale than any update we have ever released.” That’s saying something.
While we will only find out the plethora of changes when the game official lands, here is what the developer notes and he cinematic trailer have already revealed about the full release:
The World Tree finally opens
Remember that massive tree you could see on the horizon since Palworld’s original 2024 launch but could never actually reach? Well, now you can. The World Tree becomes a complete endgame zone, complete with surrounding islands, new story content, and what sources are calling major narrative moments for the game’s world. Pocketpair hasn’t ruled out a future Version 2.0 either, so we can assume 1.0 as wrapping up the first story arc rather than ending development altogether (fingers crossed!).
The Wing Pack fixes flying for good
Before this update, flying or gliding meant giving up one of your five Pal party slots to a flying companion like Galeclaw or Jetragon. That’s a real cost, basically sacrificing 20 percent of your combat team just to get around the map. The Wing Pack fixes this completely. It’s going to be a gear you wear, not a Pal you bring along, so it takes up an equipment slot instead of a party slot. You get to glide around while keeping your full five Pal combat team, and you can even fight while flying, firing handguns, throwing Pal Spheres, or using the Grappling Gun mid-air.
However, it is important to know that this is a late game item. Crafting it takes 30 Plasteel, 50 Pal Metal Ingots, 20 High Quality Cloth, and 15 Ancient Civilization Parts, so new players won’t be building it on day one.
Sky Islands, a brand new vertical zone
The Wing Pack’s timing isn’t a coincidence. Palworld 1.0 also introduces Sky Islands, a new height-based area built entirely around flight and aerial exploration. Reports also suggest the Wing Pack is basically a must-have if you want to tackle the toughest content in this new zone.
What We Really Wanted: PvP is finally here
We can agree that player versus player combat has always felt like something the game was building toward, and it never showed up during Early Access. But that changes now! Version 1.0 adds full PvP, including weapons, mounts, Pals, and base defense tools, plus a new Paint Mode alongside it.
A new breeding system called Genetic Recombination
This new mechanic lets you combine high-level or rare Pals to create unique variants. It’s a nice extension of the breeding and optimization loop that has kept a lot of long-term players hooked on filling out the Paldeck.
Tower Bosses and Wildlife Sanctuaries got reworked
Tower Boss fights have been redesigned to feel “much more dynamic and engaging,” which directly addresses something a lot of us have complained about. Wildlife Sanctuaries got a full overhaul too, each one now has its own ecosystem, rare Pals, exclusive materials, tough boss encounters, and new barriers and drone mechanics to deal with.
A whole wave of new Pals
This is the part I am most excited about! More new Pals are coming in this update than in any previous one, though Pocketpair hasn’t shared the exact total yet. Here’s what has come to light so far:
- Dupin, a dark jester-type Pal
- A fire dragon Pal
- A martial arts panda Pal
- A sword eel Pal you can actually wield as a weapon mid-fight
- A serpentine sky dragon hanging out in the World Tree area
- A giant whale Pal
- A mysterious tree guardian-like Pal
Should You Start A New Save For Palworld 1.0?
It is finally time to address the elephant in the room, or should I say address the Mammorest in the forest. Your existing save is safe. Nothing you’ve built will disappear. That being said, Pocketpair is genuinely recommending you consider a fresh start, since the new systems, rebalanced progression, and fresh content tend to feel more natural when you experience them from scratch rather than dropping them into an already maxed-out world.
And if you are still not sure which way to go? Here’s the simple solution:
- Keep your current save if you just want to dive into the new content with your existing base and progress intact
- Start fresh if you want the full, intended experience of everything Version 1.0 changes
- Back up your world either way, since big updates can occasionally cause weird issues with older saves even when nothing was supposed to break
And What About The Nintendo Lawsuit?
Well, if you are a Palworld fan, you must already be keeping up with the saga, so I am quickly going to spill the latest tea. The patent lawsuit between Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, and Pocketpair, first filed back in September 2024, is still going but has gotten a lot smaller in scope. Back in November 2025, Nintendo narrowed its claims to only cover older versions of Palworld, ones that came before Pocketpair’s more recent gameplay changes. Legal analysts following the Tokyo District Court case now think even a full Nintendo win would only lead to damages around $30,000, according to Games Fray’s reporting. No injunction is threatened against the current or future versions of the game, and a court decision is expected on November 9, 2026.
What Else Is Coming Around The 1.0 Launch?
Luckily for us, Palworld’s momentum doesn’t stop with the base game. Here’s a bit more worth knowing:
- The Palworld Trading Card Game, made with Bushiroad, is launching on July 30, 2026, just three weeks after Version 1.0
- A Palworld mobile game is currently being developed by Krafton’s PUBG Studios
- Pocketpair Publishing, a new division helping other indie developers, launched back in January 2025
There’s also been some chatter around a farming-focused spin-off fans are calling Palfarm, based on early trailer footage floating around online. However, Pocketpair hasn’t shared any real details about this one publicly, and most of the community expects updates to wait until after the 1.0 dust settles. So for now, treat this one as unconfirmed.
Well, this sums up all the latest details we have about the upcoming Pocketpair game. It’s quite amazing to see how the studios pulled up despite the controversies and backlash and completed the full release in only two years. I, for one, am really looking forward to this one. And what about you? Let me know in the comments.
