Dark medieval warfare, a boy who can see sound, and a nearly four-minute teaser that already has the anime community losing it. The Bugle Call: Song of War just got its TV anime adaptation confirmed, and the early details are seriously promising. What Is The Bugle Call: Song of War About?

The Bugle Call: Song of War is a military fantasy shonen manga written by Mozuku Sora and drawn by Higoro Toumori. The series began serialization in Shueisha’s Jump Square in June 2022 and currently runs in Jump SQ. Rise following a transfer announced in April 2026, with the next chapter publishing in the Summer 2026 issue.

The story is set in Arboral Year 1294, a world dominated by nine massive ancient towers known as the Spires, which nations wage war to control. The central character is Luca, a bugler in a mercenary company who carries branches sprouting from his head, marking him as one of the Branch-hexed. Despite being surrounded by constant conflict, Luca dreams of becoming a musician rather than a soldier. His rare ability to literally see the sound of his instrument sets him apart, and a mysterious power that awakens during battle draws him into a war far larger than anything he expected. Along the way, he crosses paths with the Pontiff, who sits at the top of the nation’s power, and Zoe, a fellow Branch-Born, among others whose lives become tangled with his own.

Why Are Fans Already Excited?

The community response to the announcement has been strong, and for good reason. The staff lineup carries serious genre credibility, with multiple veterans of the Gundam franchise across key production roles. CA Soa as a studio is newly established, however the talent behind it comes directly from Sunrise, one of the most respected names in anime production.

The source material itself has built a dedicated following since 2022. Fans describe the manga as a dark and gritty medieval warfare story with a fantasy layer that sets it apart from more conventional shonen titles. The fact that the teaser runs nearly four minutes out of the gate suggests the production team is confident in what they have built, and based on the early reaction, that confidence is landing with the audience.

The 2027 window gives the production team time to deliver something properly polished, and with the manga approaching its final arc, the timing lines up for the adaptation to arrive as the source story reaches its conclusion.
