The Yellowjackets story is heading toward its most important homecoming yet. Paramount+ has officially confirmed that Season 4 will premiere on Friday, November 20, 2026, and this time, there is no next season waiting in the wings. The fourth season will be the final season of the Emmy-nominated thriller drama.

Announced on August 20, 2026, alongside a new teaser trailer, the release date puts the spotlight back on the survivors of the 1996 plane crash. Their rescue may have ended their time in the wilderness, but the secrets, trauma, and consequences of what happened there are clearly not finished with them.

Yellowjackets Season 4 Release Date and Official Story Description

Yellowjackets Season 4 premieres exclusively on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan, the tier that includes former Showtime content.

The official description offers a cryptic glimpse at what lies ahead:

“As the survivors race to bury their sins before rescue arrives and an old flame roars back into town with plans of her own, turns out not every homecoming is a joyous one, and this one’s going to sting.”

That wording immediately connects the final season to the show’s defining dual-timeline structure. The wilderness events remain central, while the adult survivors continue dealing with the fallout decades later.

What Is Yellowjackets About? The 1996 Crash Still Haunts the Survivors

Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, Yellowjackets follows a high school girls’ soccer team whose plane crashes in the remote northern wilderness in 1996.

The series moves between two timelines. The younger survivors are forced into increasingly extreme survival conditions, blending psychological horror, coming-of-age drama and wilderness survival. Meanwhile, the adult survivors nearly 25 years later attempt to rebuild their lives while confronting the secrets and consequences of what happened after the crash.

The series originally premiered on Showtime on November 14, 2021.

Season 3 aired from February through April 2025 on Paramount+ with Showtime and became the show’s most-watched season to date. Its finale also became the most-watched episode in series history.

The series has earned 10 Emmy nominations, including consecutive nominations for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Melanie Lynskey.

Why Is Yellowjackets Ending With Season 4?

The decision to end the series came after Paramount and Showtime renewed Yellowjackets for a fourth season on May 20, 2025. In October 2025, it was announced that Season 4 would instead serve as the conclusion of the entire series.

The creators had previously discussed a potential five-season plan, but Lyle and Nickerson ultimately decided the story needed to end with Season 4.

Lyle and Nickerson said that after three seasons, they had carefully considered where the story should go and ultimately felt it was time to bring Yellowjackets to its conclusion with Season 4. They explained that they always expected the story itself to signal when it was ready to end, and they believed their responsibility was to follow that direction.

They described making the series as a profoundly meaningful experience and thanked the cast, crew, writers and fans, whom they referred to as the “Hive,” before saying they could not wait to share the conclusion/final chapter.

Nia Sondaya and Jenna Burgess have been promoted to series regulars.

Season 4 also adds Molly Ringwald, who will have a recurring role as Van’s mother, Vicky, while June Squibb has joined in a role that has not been disclosed.

Lyle and Nickerson serve as showrunners and executive producers alongside Jonathan Lisco, Drew Comins of Creative Engine, Jeff W. Byrd, Sarah L. Thompson, Ameni Rozsa and Julia Bicknell.

The series is produced for Showtime by Lionsgate Television and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Lyle and Nickerson also continue their relationship with Paramount through an overall deal signed with Paramount Television Studios earlier in 2026. Their other credits include Dispatches From Elsewhere, Narcos, Narcos: Mexico and The Originals.

Yellowjackets Season 4 Teaser: The Rescue Is Finally Coming Into Focus

The August 20, 2026 teaser opens with a bank of television sets designed to resemble 1990s-era televisions. News reports about the high school soccer team’s rescue play across the screens, including footage featuring former MTV News anchor Kurt Loder.

The teaser then cuts between previous-season footage and imagery tied to the wilderness storyline, including the series’ distinctive symbol.

One particularly emotional moment returns from the Season 3 finale, with Natalie Scatorccio desperately crying:

“Can anyone hear me?!”

Then comes the ominous final message: “The final reckoning.”

The teaser ends by revealing the November 20 premiere date, firmly connecting the final season to the events surrounding the team’s rescue.

Where to Watch Yellowjackets Season 4

All previous seasons of Yellowjackets are available to stream on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan. Season 4 premieres exclusively on the same service on Friday, November 20, 2026, beginning the final chapter of the series.

Conclusion

After three seasons of survival, secrets, psychological horror and unanswered questions, Yellowjackets is finally approaching its last chapter. The fourth season will bring the story toward its planned conclusion while continuing the connection between the 1996 wilderness timeline and the adult survivors’ present-day lives.

The November 20 premiere now has an especially heavy meaning: this is not simply another season. It is the beginning of the final reckoning.
