Starting over in Where Winds Meet sounds simple, yet the game ties each character tightly to account bindings. There is no direct “delete character” button. Still, players can reset their progress instantly by using the account unbinding system built into the game. This guide explains how the process works, why it exists, and how to avoid common mistakes.
Why Character Deletion Works Differently in Where Winds Meet
Where Winds Meet allows only one character per game account. NetEase designed the system around account bindings rather than save slots. Because of this structure, deleting a character means removing the platform account connection that created it. Once that link disappears, the game treats the next launch as a fresh start.
What You Need Before You Begin
You only need one extra NetEase account. Many players call this a throwaway account, since you use it briefly to meet the unbinding requirements. You do not need to install the game again or use another platform launcher.
Make sure the game language is set to English before you start. Some players cannot see the unbind option in other languages.
Step by Step Character Reset Method
- Launch the game on the platform you want to reset
Start the game on Steam, Epic Games, PS5, or your chosen platform. - Bind a NetEase account
Go to Settings and link your current character to a NetEase account if it is not already bound.

- Open Customer Service
From the in game menu, navigate to Customer Service. - Select “Unbind Account”
Choose the option to unbind an account from your character.
- Unbind your platform account
Select Steam, Epic, or PSN, depending on which platform you want to reset. - Confirm the unbinding process
Accept the confirmation prompt to complete the unbind. - Exit and restart the game
Fully close the game and relaunch it through the same platform.

- Create a new character
The game loads as a fresh account, allowing you to start a new character instantly.
What Happens After Unbinding?
Your old character no longer connects to that platform account. The process does not store the character in a recoverable state. Treat this as permanent.
Your character name does not become available right away. Most players report a waiting period of around 14 days before they can reuse the same name.
Preorder rewards, purchases, and drops stay tied to the original account bindings. If you remove access to those bindings, you may lose the ability to reclaim them on the new character.
Platform Specific Notes
This method works on Steam, Epic Games, PS5, and cloud services like GeForce Now. On PS5, the console account binds automatically when you launch the game. You can still unbind it through the in game Customer Service menu.
If Customer Service shows error messages such as 401, restart the game and confirm the language setting.
When to Use This Method
Use this reset if you chose the wrong difficulty, joined the wrong server, or want to rebuild your character cleanly. Avoid it if you want to keep progression, names, or paid items.
