ADOR, the agency behind the K-pop group NewJeans, has formally terminated its exclusive contract with member Danielle and announced plans to pursue legal action against a member of her family, citing their role in prolonging the group’s ongoing conflict with the company.

The announcement, made on December 29, 2025, marks a sharp turn in a dispute that once appeared close to resolution and has significant implications for the future of one of K-pop’s most influential girl groups.

What ADOR announced?

ADOR stated that it concluded Danielle could no longer continue activities as a NewJeans member or as an artist under the agency. The company confirmed that it notified her of the contract termination and emphasized that the decision followed prolonged internal discussions and legal developments.

Alongside this move, ADOR warned it would take legal measures against one of Danielle’s family members and former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin. The agency described both as bearing serious responsibility for what it called repeated provocations and the delayed return of NewJeans members to the label.

According to ADOR, these actions undermined efforts to stabilize the group after months of legal uncertainty.

The broader NewJeans contract conflict

NewJeans debuted in 2022 under ADOR, a HYBE subsidiary, and quickly became a defining force in modern K-pop. The group’s rise stalled in 2024 after a public power struggle between HYBE and then-ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin. That dispute spilled over into the group’s contracts, with all five members later claiming their agreements were invalid due to alleged breaches by the agency.

ADOR responded by filing a lawsuit to confirm contract validity. In October 2025, a Seoul court ruled in favor of ADOR, affirming that the exclusive contracts remained in effect through 2029.

Following the ruling, the group’s two youngest members, Haerin and Hyein, returned to the agency. The remaining members later signaled their intent to do the same, though ADOR clarified that negotiations continued on an individual basis.

Where the members now stand

ADOR confirmed that member Hanni has agreed to return after extensive discussions that included her family. Minji remains in talks with the agency, which ADOR described as constructive and aimed at rebuilding mutual trust.

Danielle’s case diverged sharply.

ADOR stated that it discovered the members had received what it described as ongoing distorted and misleading information about the company over an extended period. The agency identified this as the core source of misunderstandings that fueled the conflict. In Danielle’s situation, ADOR said these issues reached a point where continued collaboration was no longer feasible.

Legal action and public explanation ahead

The agency indicated that legal action would target one family member of Danielle and Min Hee-jin, rather than Danielle herself, though the fallout directly affected her contract status. ADOR said it plans to provide a full explanation of the dispute in a separate public briefing, with details to be announced later.

This approach suggests the company intends to shape the public narrative around the conflict as it moves forward legally and reputationally.

What this means for NewJeans and fans

Danielle’s departure leaves NewJeans in an uncertain state. Industry observers note that group identity and member chemistry play a critical role in K-pop longevity, and the loss of a member poses both creative and commercial challenges.

For you as a fan or observer, the situation underscores how deeply intertwined management disputes and artist careers remain in the K-pop system. While ADOR has emphasized its desire to restore public trust and fan support, the group’s future structure remains unresolved.

Looking ahead

ADOR has reiterated its commitment to restoring stability and clearing misunderstandings, even if the process takes time. Whether NewJeans can regroup under a revised lineup or whether further departures follow will depend on the outcome of ongoing talks and legal proceedings.

For now, the termination of Danielle’s contract represents the most decisive development yet in a dispute that continues to reshape the group’s legacy.
