The tragic story of Noelia Castillo Ramos, the 25-year-old Spanish woman whose euthanasia case drew worldwide attention, has taken another emotional turn. Months after her death under Spain’s euthanasia laws, her mother says a personal diary handed to her in Noelia’s final hours may contain crucial details that could help identify the men she believes were responsible for her daughter’s alleged gang rape.
According to VT, Yolanda Ramos has now launched a renewed effort to seek justice for her daughter, claiming the journal contains information that investigators may be able to use after years of unanswered questions.

Diary Given on the Day of Her Death Could Offer New Leads in Alleged Gang Rape Investigation
Noelia Castillo Ramos died at a hospital in Barcelona on March 26 after legally choosing euthanasia following an 18-month court battle over her right to end her life.
Before she died, she handed her mother a personal diary. Yolanda Ramos says reading it helped her understand events that had remained unclear for years.
According to the report, the diary describes Noelia meeting a waiter in the town of Salou, Tarragona, before allegedly being drugged, given alcohol, and raped by three men.
Speaking in a video accompanying a press release announcing newly filed complaints, Yolanda Ramos said:
“Noelia spoke about the rapes on television, and on the very day she died, she gave me her diary. When I read it, I understood many things.”
She now hopes the journal will move investigators beyond years of internet speculation and provide evidence that could help identify those allegedly responsible.

Years of Trauma Preceded the Paralysis That Changed Her Life
According to the report, Castillo had survived three separate sexual assaults by the age of 21, including an alleged gang rape at a nightclub.
In 2022, she suffered a severe spinal cord injury after a failed suicide attempt, leaving her paraplegic. Her physical condition, combined with years of trauma, became central to the public debate surrounding her euthanasia request.
Her case attracted widespread international attention as her father attempted to stop the euthanasia procedure. Supported by Christian advocacy groups, he argued that Noelia’s decision-making ability had been affected by severe psychological distress, including borderline personality disorder and trauma linked to the assaults.
However, Spanish courts, followed by the European Court of Human Rights, ruled that she had the mental capacity to make the decision herself.
In her final interview with Spanish broadcaster Antena 3, Noelia defended her choice, saying:
“I simply want to go in peace and stop suffering.”
She also added:
“The happiness of a father, a mother, or a sister cannot take precedence over the happiness of a daughter.”

International Scrutiny and Online Rumors Followed the Case
The case later gained even greater international attention after leaked diplomatic cables reportedly showed the US State Department had ordered an investigation into how Spanish authorities handled the euthanasia case, including whether safeguards for non-terminal psychiatric patients and victims of severe trauma were sufficient.
The story also became the subject of widespread online speculation. While Noelia had publicly stated that she survived two sexual assaults and an attempted rape, Spanish authorities said she never identified the identities or nationalities of those responsible.
