The forest of 99 Nights in the Forest has always been a place where every shadow hides a threat, and survival demands constant vigilance. With the Taming Update, that fear is met with possibility. The very creatures that once stalked you can now become your allies.
From the timid rabbit to the towering mammoth, this update introduces a layer of companionship and strategy, transforming the forest into a living ecosystem where bonds matter as much as skill. Here’s how to tame your first animals and begin building your forest companions.
How to Obtain Your Taming Flute?
The Taming Flute is central to this update — a tool that turns wild instinct into alliance. There are three tiers:
- Old Taming Flute (Level 1): Starter item, allows taming basic animals like rabbits and wolves.
- Good Taming Flute (Level 2): Unlocks higher-tier animals like Alpha Wolves.
- Super Taming Flute (Level 3): Required for rare animals like Bears and Mammoths.

Where to Find:
- Visit the Domestication Cabin near your camp.
- Inside the red tent with a pot, you’ll find Old Taming Flutes to begin your journey.
Upgrading Flutes:
- Use the Upgrade Building, located near your camp, to level your flute.
- Fill the XP bar by taming animals, unlocking higher-tier taming abilities.
How To Appoach an Animal to Tame it?
Taming begins with respect. Wild animals may respond aggressively to sudden movement. Step gently into the green taming circle around your target, and a green bar will appear — the taming meter.
Tip: Start with calm creatures like rabbits to understand the mini-game before attempting more aggressive animals.
Complete the Taming Mini-Game
The taming bar works similarly to the fishing mechanic:

- Keep the red line within the highlighted green area to fill the meter.
- Each successful attempt reflects patience, timing, and attentiveness.
- Aggressive animals may require multiple attempts, turning each session into a negotiation rather than a simple task.
The mini-game is more than a mechanic; it is a reflection of building trust with the forest.
Feed and Secure Your Pet Loyalty
Once the taming bar fills, the animal will request specific food. Feeding the correct items completes the taming process:
| Animal | Taming Flute Level | Food Required |
| Rabbit | 1 | 1x Carrot |
| Wolf | 1 | 2x Steaks (6 total) |
| Scorpion | 1 | 1x Steak (3 total), 1x Morsel (3 total) |
| Arctic Fox | 1 | 1x Steak (3 total), 1x Chili (3 total) |
| Alpha Wolf | 2 | 1x Steak (4 total), 1x Stew (4 total), 1x Corn (4 total) |
| Bear | 3 | 1x Ribs (5 total), 1x Stew (5 total), 1x Pumpkins (5 total) |
| Lava Mammoth | 3 | 2x Pumpkins (10 total), 1x Cake (5 total) |
| Mammoth | 3 | 2x Pumpkins (10 total), 1x Cake (5 total) |
Once tamed, the anger bar is replaced by a jolly bar, signaling loyalty. Except for rabbits, all pets can now fight back if entities attack you.
Travel as a Team
Tamed animals provide more than protection — they bring strategy, guidance, and companionship:

- Follow & Guard: Pets stay near you, defending against enemies.
- Combat Assistance: Aggressive pets can deal meaningful damage.
- Resource Collection: Pets may pick up items like Morsels or Bunny Feet.
- Environmental Awareness: Pets can alert players to nearby dangers.
- Guidance: Certain animals help locate hidden paths or prey.
Every companion embodies a facet of survival — from vigilance to brute strength — creating a richer gameplay experience.
Tips for Successful Tamers
- Observe First: Learn the animal’s temperament before approaching.
- Start Small: Rabbits and wolves are ideal first companions.
- Upgrade Wisely: Higher-tier animals demand stronger flutes.
- Pay Attention to Food: Each species has a unique diet and number of repetitions needed.
- Patience Pays Off: Some creatures require multiple mini-game attempts.
Why Pet Taming is an Exciting Feature?
Taming is more than a cosmetic feature. A tamed animal represents trust earned, risk managed, and survival amplified. Pets follow you across the forest, defend against hostile entities, and even help uncover hidden paths or resources. In a world that once felt cold and unyielding, taming brings warmth, strategy, and subtle emotional resonance to every journey.
