The forest of 99 Nights has always been a place of dread, a place where survival means solitude (if not playing multiplayer). But the Taming Update, now officially live, reshapes that narrative. Players can finally befriend the very creatures that once stalked them.

Released on October 4, 2025, this major update introduces a complete taming system, allowing players to tame, feed, and command various wild animals. Whether you’re wandering the fog-filled woods or defending your camp at night, your new animal companions can now protect and guide you through the dangers that lurk in the dark.

What Is the Taming Update in 99 Nights in the Forest?

Before this update, animals in 99 Nights were primarily threats. Wolves, bears, and other wild creatures could attack at any moment, making exploration tense and unpredictable. The Taming Update changes that.

With the Taming Flute, players can now earn the trust of wild animals, converting them into companions that:

  • Follow the player across the forest
  • Defend against hostile mobs or other players
  • Retrieve resources
  • Alert players to nearby dangers

Roblox’s official statement on the update sums it up:

“Animals can protect and guide you if you have pets of your own!”

In addition, the update introduces:

  • Zookeeper Class – an optional class designed to help taming, though its perks are considered modest by the community.
  • Domestication Cabin – where players can find Taming Flutes and prepare for their taming journey.
  • Upgrade Building – allowing players to upgrade their Taming Flute from Old to Good to Super levels, enabling higher-tier animals to be tamed.

New Item: The Taming Flute

The Taming Flute is the core of the new system. It enables players to tame animals through a mini-game similar to fishing. By keeping a red line inside a highlighted bar, you can gradually earn the animal’s trust.

Taming Flute Levels

  • Old Taming Flute (Level 1) – Starter item, can tame basic animals like rabbits and wolves.
  • Good Taming Flute (Level 2) – Unlocks higher-tier animals like Alpha Wolves.
  • Super Taming Flute (Level 3) – Required for rare and powerful creatures like Bears, Mammoths, and Lava Mammoths.

Upgrades are completed in the Upgrade Building, which tracks XP through a yellow bar above the map icon. Taming more animals fills this bar, allowing the flute to level up.

New Locations

Domestication Cabin

A quiet, rustic cabin near the starting camp where players can:

  • Find Taming Flutes
  • Collect food for taming
  • Learn animal temperaments via in-game lore notes

Upgrade Building

A newly added structure near your camp. Here, players can:

  • Upgrade their Taming Flutes
  • Use XP earned from previous taming attempts
  • Unlock higher-tier taming capabilities

The Domestication Cabin is a newly added structure in the forest — a quiet sanctuary where players can discover their first Taming Flute. Inside, you may also find scattered food items, animal lore notes, and supply chests that hint at each species’ temperament.

Zookeeper Class

The Zookeeper Class is an optional addition from the Taming Update, purchasable from the Daily Class Shop for 70 Diamonds. It provides small bonuses to taming efficiency:

LevelPerk
1Taming whistle levels faster
2Feeding tamed animals restores more of their health
3You can tame animals faster with the flute

Community Note: Most players report that the perks are minor, and the class is not essential, since all players receive an Old Taming Flute at the start of a round.

How the Taming System Works?

Taming is a multi-step, interactive process:

  1. Find a Wild Animal – Approach carefully to avoid triggering aggression.
  2. Step Into the Taming Circle – A green circle appears around the animal, and the taming bar shows up on the right.
  3. Play the Mini-Game – Keep the red line within the highlighted green area, similar to fishing mechanics.
  4. Feed the Animal – Offer the correct food based on the animal’s anger level and species.
  5. Repeat if Needed – Higher-tier or more aggressive animals may require multiple attempts.

Tip: Bandages are recommended in case the taming attempt goes wrong, as some animals may attack when provoked.

Once tamed, animals’ anger bars are replaced with “jolly bars,” indicating loyalty. They will follow players throughout a round and, except for rabbits, can attack hostile entities once provoked.

What Can Tamed Animals Do?

Tamed animals aren’t just companions — they are survival partners:

  • Follow & Guard: Pets stay close and defend against enemies.
  • Combat Assistance: Wolves, bears, and other aggressive pets can deal significant damage.
  • Resource Retrieval: Pets may pick up items like Morsels or Bunny Feet.
  • Environmental Awareness: Alerts players to danger in surrounding areas.
  • Guidance: Some pets, especially rabbits and wolves, can help locate food or hidden paths.

Players can now traverse the forest as a team, merging instinct with survival in a way the forest has never seen before.
