Fuel is one of the most important resources in Resident Evil Requiem’s East Raccoon City section, and a surprising number of players get stuck trying to find it. The game sends you in search of it fairly early in Leon’s campaign, but you cannot actually collect it until you have completed a specific set of prior objectives. Once you know where to go and what to do first, though, the whole process is straightforward, and one full Gas Can is all you need to power every Generator in this section of the game.

What Is Fuel Used For in Resident Evil Requiem?

During Leon’s campaign in Resident Evil Requiem, the East Raccoon City section features several inactive Generators scattered throughout the area. Powering these Generators opens doors, unlocks shortcuts, and provides access to new parts of the city you need to progress. Fuel is also essential for collecting the Relay, which is one of the three Detonator parts you need to complete the Detonator puzzle in this area.

Important: What You Need to Do Before Getting Fuel

The game will prompt you to find fuel relatively early in the East Raccoon City section. However, you cannot collect any fuel until you have first obtained the first two Detonator parts: the Distributor and the Signal Receiver. You also need to repair the Signal Receiver using the Repair Kit before the fuel objective becomes actionable.

Additionally, to access the northern part of East Raccoon City where the Gas Station is located, you need to open the gate in the Underground Parking Garage. You can open that gate by collecting two batteries in the Underground Parking Garage section.

Once you have both Detonator parts, the Signal Receiver repaired, and the northern gate open, you are ready to find the Gas Can and collect Fuel.

Step-by-Step: How to Get Fuel in Resident Evil Requiem

Step 1: Locate the Ladder in the North Area

Open your map and look for the Fuel quest marker in the north of East Raccoon City. Just below and to the left of the marker, you will see a ladder marked on your map. Head there and you will find the ladder folded up and attached to a building, hanging too high to grab by hand.

Step 2: Shoot the Ladder Down

Shoot the yellow strap holding the ladder up to drop it to ground level. Once it falls, you can climb it.

Step 3: Cross the Scaffolding to Enter the Gas Station

Climb the ladder and then balance across the wooden ramps and scaffolding to your right. Walk across the car wreckage and drop down into the Gas Station on the other side. This is your route into the otherwise locked Gas Station.

Step 4: Find the Empty Gas Can

Once inside the Gas Station, make your way through the interior of the building to the other side. On that side, you will find a door leading outside to an inactive Generator, and beside it, the empty Fuel Container you need to pick up. Pick up the empty Gas Can.

Step 5: Prepare for the Zombie Ambush

In typical Resident Evil Requiem fashion, picking up the Gas Can and heading back out to the Gas Station forecourt triggers a horde of zombie spawns. There is plenty of fire in the Gas Station environment, so be careful about where Leon moves during the fight. Deal with all the zombies before proceeding.

Step 6: Fill the Gas Can at the Fuel Tanker

After clearing the zombies, head to the furthest north gate in the Gas Station complex. There you will find a fuel tanker with a turnable wheel. Interact with the wheel to activate it, then interact with the nozzle to attach and fill the Gas Can. This gives you the Gas Can with Fuel item. One full Gas Can contains enough fuel to power every Generator in East Raccoon City. You will not need to return here to refuel.

Step 7: Power the First Generator to Open the Gas Station Exit

With the Gas Can filled, head back inside the Gas Station to the inactive Generator located beside where you found the empty Fuel Container. Use some fuel on this Generator and it will open the Gas Station’s exit door, allowing you to leave and access the rest of East Raccoon City.

All Fuel-Powered Generator and Door Locations in Resident Evil Requiem

A single full Gas Can provides enough fuel to power all of the following locations in East Raccoon City. Not all of them are mandatory for story progression, but powering the optional ones does open up useful shortcuts and additional areas.
