What Digtoise Does in Terraria?
Digtoise is a pre Hardmode entity found in Terraria. When you use it, Digtoise digs blocks in the direction you point, creating narrow tunnels that follow your command. You can also pet it, which places it firmly in the category of utility items with personality.
Its digging pattern changes based on direction:
- When you direct it downward, it digs a 3×1 horizontal line
- When you direct it left or right, it digs a 1×3 vertical line
Because of this behavior, Digtoise serves as a controlled digging companion rather than a replacement for your pickaxe.

You can only find Digtoise in one location:
The Underground Desert
Digtoise does not roam or spawn as an enemy. It appears as a fossil or statue like block embedded in the Underground Desert terrain. Once you mine that block, you obtain Digtoise as an item.

Can You Find Digtoise in Old Worlds?
No.
If your world existed before Digtoise entered the game, it will not contain Digtoise. Players confirmed that Digtoise generates only during world creation. Older worlds do not retroactively add it, even if you update the game version.
If you want Digtoise, you need to create a new world where the Underground Desert generates with the item present.
Mining and Using Digtoise
Once you locate Digtoise:
