Toby Fox dropped the news Deltarune fans have been waiting for, and it is arriving sooner than anyone expected. If you have been holding off replaying the earlier chapters in preparation, now is the time to start.

Deltarune Chapter 5 Release Date

What the Trailer Showed

The Deltarune Chapter 5 trailer runs at just 46 seconds and was deliberately restrained. Toby Fox confirmed in his newsletter that he “avoided showing the most exciting moments” in order to preserve surprises for players. The trailer shows primarily Dark World footage along with brief clips from earlier chapters.

Based on what the trailer does show, a popular fan theory appears confirmed: the Dark World for Chapter 5 will be created inside Asgore’s flower shop, given the heavy presence of flower-themed enemies and motifs throughout. The trailer uses a pink and gold colour scheme, which has already generated significant discussion within the community.

The Light World segment of Chapter 5 is expected to take place at a festival, where multiple major story threads are anticipated to converge.

What Toby Fox Said

Following the Nintendo Direct reveal, Toby Fox published a newsletter sharing further details about the chapter and the road ahead. His words on Chapter 5:

“In Chapter 4, we saw dark clouds on the horizon. That’s why, let’s not look there for now. Let’s turn around and watch the sun, before it goes down completely. Let’s smile again. Let’s have one more fun adventure, okay?”

He also confirmed:

“In my opinion, it fits well in the overall story of the game.”

On the production side, Fox noted the Chapter 5 trailer was created by artist Everdraed, with music performed and arranged by Carlos “insaneintherain” Eiene. The artwork at the end of the trailer was handled by Temmie Chang, the animator and developer who also worked on the original Undertale.

Chapter 6 Progress Update

Alongside the Chapter 5 announcement, Toby Fox shared a detailed progress breakdown for Deltarune Chapter 6 in his newsletter:

Development AreaStatus
Cutscenes and NPC interactionsMaking good progress
Overworld gameplay gimmicksAll basic gimmicks created, more rooms needed
Normal enemies and bullet patternsMostly complete
Boss and final battle bulletsCurrently in development

Fox described Chapter 6 as “easier to make than the others,” adding that “the development is going quite fast.” He also revealed: “This sounds crazy, but it’s not unrealistic that some staff members may start working on Chapter 7 before the end of the year.”

This suggests the gap between remaining chapters could be considerably shorter than the waits players experienced for earlier releases.

About Deltarune

Deltarune is a follow-up to Toby Fox’s beloved 2015 indie RPG Undertale, developed by Fox and a small team. It is not a direct sequel but runs as a parallel story, blending turn-based RPG mechanics with bullet hell combat. The game is planned to span seven chapters in total, with the chapter count confirmed via the in-game menu screen. Four chapters are currently available, with Chapter 5 arriving on June 24. Deltarune launched across multiple platforms and served as a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title when it released in full-game form in June 2025, including the first four chapters.
