DC Officially Redesigns Wonder Woman’s Most Iconic Weapon

A side-by-side comparison of Absolute Wonder Woman's blue Troika Lasso and the traditional glowing Lasso of Truth.

DC has given Wonder Woman a bold new take on her legendary Lasso of Truth in the Absolute Universe. Instead of the classic golden lasso, Absolute Wonder Woman now wields three unique magical ropes. The latest one, the Troika, completely reimagines what it means to force someone to face the truth. This redesign delivers a darker and more psychological edge that fits the gritty tone of the Absolute line.

What Is the Troika Lasso?

The Troika is the third and final lasso in Absolute Wonder Woman’s arsenal. Revealed in Absolute Wonder Woman #19 (written by Kelly Thompson and illustrated by Hayden Sherman), it traps its target in a vision of an infinite void with a crossroads. The bound person must confront a painful truth from their past, usually a major life choice they have been avoiding. They can only escape by accepting that truth. Refusal leaves them trapped or consumed by the vision.

This makes the Troika far more aggressive than the traditional Lasso of Truth. While the classic version compels honest answers, the Troika forces deep internal reckoning with consequences that can break even powerful opponents.

The Full Set of Lassos

Absolute Wonder Woman does not rely on one weapon. She uses three distinct lassos, each with its own terrifying power:

  • Nemesis Lasso (Red) burns targets in proportion to their sins.
  • Thysía / Sacrifice Lasso (Green) transforms the body and mind of whoever it touches.
  • Troika Lasso (Blue) forces confrontation with harsh personal truths.

The Troika completes the set and stands out as the most psychologically dangerous. It was forged from the blood of the man-eating Scylla, the fur of the three-headed dog Cerberus, and the sacred icy tears of the River Styx, then blessed by the witch goddess Hecate.

How the Troika Works in Action

In Absolute Wonder Woman #19, Diana uses the Troika against a monstrous undead version of Zatara. The lasso pulls both of them into the void, where Zatara must face his impossible choice between his wife and daughter, a decision that led to his current suffering. Diana herself gets briefly trapped by its power, showing that even the wielder is not completely safe.

This redesign turns the lasso from a simple truth-telling tool into a trial of reality. It does not just reveal secrets. It makes people live through the weight of their choices.

How This Redesign Fits Wonder Woman?

The Troika fits perfectly into the darker Absolute Universe, where Wonder Woman grew up in Hell and fights with raw, witch-powered intensity. It keeps the core theme of truth but adds high stakes and emotional consequences. Fans now have a fresh version of one of DC’s most iconic weapons that feels brutal, modern, and thematically rich.

Final Thoughts

DC has successfully evolved Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth into something more intense and layered with the Troika. This new weapon raises the bar for how truth can be weaponized in comics, and it gives Absolute Wonder Woman a unique edge in her battles.

What do you think of this redesign? Does the Troika feel like a worthy successor to the classic Lasso of Truth, or do you prefer the original version?

Drop your thoughts in the comments below. We would love to hear which lasso you would want Wonder Woman to use in a fight!
