Emily Browning Takes a Tequila-Fueled Ride Through Time in One More Shot (2025)

Four friends sit on a couch in a living room. From left to right: a man in a green shirt smiles while holding a remote, a woman with red hair in a red dress smiles, a man in a floral shirt and striped pants sits with a serious expression, and a woman in a leopard print top holds a cocktail with a worried expression.

Emily Browning is back — and this time, she’s armed with nothing more than a bottle of tequila, a broken heart, and a shot at rewriting history. The official trailer for One More Shot has dropped, and it’s already shaping up to be one of 2025’s quirkiest and most irresistible rom-coms.

One More Shot: A Party That Never Ends… Literally

Set on the infamous New Year’s Eve of 1999 — with all its glitter, Y2K panic, and questionable fashion — One More Shot throws us headfirst into Minnie Vernon’s (Emily Browning) chaotic night. She’s nursing unresolved feelings for her ex, Joe (Sean Keenan), who shows up to the same party with his new girlfriend, Jenny (Aisha Dee). Instead of storming out, Minnie decides to stay — and that’s when fate, or rather tequila, intervenes.

One magical shot of liquor later, the clock resets. The night starts again. And again. And again. Suddenly, Minnie has unlimited do-overs, and she’s not about to waste them. Whether it’s sabotaging Joe’s new romance, embarrassing herself in spectacular dance-floor disasters, or trying to “fix” every minor detail of the night, Minnie discovers that controlling the universe is way harder than it looks.

Premise (from trailer / synopsis)On New Year’s Eve 1999, Minnie brings a bottle of tequila to a party. When she takes a shot after midnight, it magically sends her back to the start of the night — giving her multiple “do-overs” to try to fix her night and possibly win back her old flame Joe, who’s now brought along a new girlfriend. But changing things is harder than she thought, and each reset leads to unexpected consequences.
Tone / Key Themes1990s nostalgia, Y2K setting, rom-com with a twist of magical realism and time-travel, exploring romantic regret, second chances, and personal growth (or missteps).

Emily Browning in Her Element

Four friends stand together in a living room looking shocked. From left to right: a woman in a white dress holds a doll, a man in a striped shirt and jeans, a man in a floral shirt and striped pants, and a woman in a leopard print top. They all have expressions of surprise or panic.

Browning, known for her mix of charm and bite in films like Sleeping Beauty and Pompeii, flexes her comedic muscles here — wide-eyed panic one moment, unapologetic mischief the next. From drunken pratfalls to sharp-tongued banter, she’s the messy, lovable anti-heroine you can’t help but root for.

Add in the stellar supporting cast — Aisha Dee’s effortlessly cool Jenny, Pallavi Sharda’s fiery Pia, and Ashley Zukerman’s charmingly awkward Rodney — and you’ve got a party worth crashing on repeat.

Tequila, Time Travel, and Y2K Nostalgia

If the premise sounds like a blend of Groundhog Day and 10 Things I Hate About You — with a splash of Palm Springs — that’s exactly the point. Director Nicholas Clifford keeps things fizzy and fast-paced, leaning into 90s nostalgia: glitter eyeshadow, bucket hats, dial-up internet references, and of course, the looming dread of the world collapsing at midnight.

But behind the laughs and chaos, there’s a heart to this story. One More Shot isn’t just about chasing an ex — it’s about confronting regret, embracing imperfection, and realizing that sometimes the universe really does know better.

One More Shot Release & Buzz

After debuting at SXSW 2025 to cheeky critical praise, the film is headed to the Melbourne International Film Festival before landing as a Stan Original on October 12, 2025.

Critics are already calling it a “time-loop rom-com with bite,” praising its balance of comedy, chaos, and heartfelt honesty. Browning’s performance, in particular, is being singled out as the film’s tequila-shot kick — sharp, surprising, and intoxicating.

Why You Can’t Miss It?

With a wild premise, a nostalgic Y2K setting, and Emily Browning at her most magnetic, One More Shot feels like the rom-com glow-up we didn’t know we needed. It’s fizzy, it’s messy, it’s heartfelt — and it proves that sometimes the best way to move forward… is to take one more shot.
