Xbox completionists have been waiting for this one for years. Microsoft appears to be preparing a brand-new Mythic Achievement, a dedicated reward designed to recognize players who finish every achievement in a game’s original achievement list.
The feature has now surfaced inside the Xbox PC app with its own badge, animation, notification and unlock sound, giving players the clearest look yet at Microsoft’s answer to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy. The system has not received a full public launch announcement, but recent Xbox software discoveries and information obtained by TrueAchievements reveal how it is expected to work.
And there is one major detail achievement hunters will want to know: Mythic does not appear to simply mean 100% Gamerscore.
Xbox is finally giving full-game completion its own reward
Xbox has used Achievements and Gamerscore for more than two decades. Microsoft introduced Xbox Live Achievements in 2005, giving players a numerical score that tracks their accomplishments across games.
PlayStation later introduced its Trophy system on PS3 in 2008. Its lineup of Bronze, Silver and Gold trophies eventually gave completionists another target: the Platinum Trophy, which is awarded after collecting the other trophies in a game’s base list.
Xbox never had a direct equivalent.
A game could reach 1,000 Gamerscore, and players could display 100% completion, but there was no separate platform-wide reward specifically announcing that someone had completed the game’s original achievement set.
That is the gap Mythic appears designed to fill.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma first confirmed in August that the company was working on a Platinum-style reward for Xbox players later in 2026.
When an Xbox player asked when Microsoft would “solve the Platinum trophy equivalent with Achievements,” Sharma responded:
“Team is working on something for later this year!”
She did not reveal the feature’s name, rules or launch date at the time. Now, Xbox software appears to have done the revealing.

The Mythic name appeared before Xbox officially announced it
On September 19, Xbox Insider users reportedly spotted two new filters in the Gaming section of Xbox profiles: “Completed Mythic Achievement” and “Incomplete Mythic Achievement.”
The filters appeared alongside existing achievement-completion options, strongly suggesting that Mythic would operate as a separate completion milestone. The filters reportedly did not perform their intended function at the time, and the feature appeared limited to Xbox Insiders.
A few days later, the discovery went much further.
On September 22, Xbox community figure Klobrille revealed that a new Xbox PC app update contained the Mythic Achievement symbol and unlock sound.
The discovery initially described Mythic as a potential “100% Gamerscore game completion reward.” That interpretation made sense given Microsoft’s existing achievement system and the long-running demand for a Platinum-style milestone.
But newer technical information has provided a more precise explanation.
Mythic apparently counts the base-game achievement list, not Gamerscore
This is the biggest clarification so far.
According to information obtained by TrueAchievements, Mythic is awarded after a player completes all achievements in a game’s base list. Achievements introduced through DLC packs and title updates reportedly do not affect Mythic eligibility.
The Mythic itself is also reportedly worth 0 Gamerscore and is tracked separately at a meta level.
That means players should not think of Mythic as simply another achievement worth points.
Technical analysis from XCT.live provides more evidence for how Microsoft’s system works. The Xbox PC app appears to identify a group of achievements as “BaseGame”, with that group being used to determine whether a player has completed the requirements for Mythic.
The app also reportedly contains a “Required for Mythic achievement” filter.
Achievements outside the relevant original group are identified as “Add-on.”
The system reportedly uses an unlock message that reads:
“Unlocked all N achievements in the original game”
That wording is important because it points toward the requirement being based on the game’s original achievement set rather than its total Gamerscore.
So a player could potentially earn a Mythic without reaching 100% of the Gamerscore attached to a title.

DLC and title updates reportedly won’t move the finish line
For completionists, this could be one of the most welcome parts of the entire system.
Xbox games regularly receive expansions, updates and additional achievements after launch. Under a system based purely on 100% Gamerscore, those additions could effectively change what “complete” means.
Mythic reportedly avoids that problem.
TrueAchievements says achievements from DLC packs and title updates will not impact Mythic Achievements.
That means a player could complete every achievement in a game’s original list, earn the Mythic and retain that completion status even when the developer later adds more achievements.
The reported BaseGame and Add-on structure found by XCT.live supports the same distinction.
For achievement hunters, that creates a much clearer finishing line: complete the original game, earn the Mythic, and later DLC does not reportedly invalidate it.
Xbox is giving Mythic its own look and sound
Microsoft also appears to understand that a completion reward needs to feel different from an ordinary achievement notification.
The Xbox PC app contains evidence of a dedicated Mythic badge, notification, animation and unlock sound.
The newly discovered unlock sequence has already attracted attention because it gives the final completion moment a more dramatic identity than a standard achievement pop.
The visual reward is also reportedly separate from Gamerscore.
Gamerscore continues to represent the numerical value of a player’s achievements, while Mythic serves as a separate indicator that the player has completed a game’s original achievement list.
That distinction essentially lets Xbox keep the system achievement hunters already know while adding a new milestone for players who want something more tangible for completing an entire game.

Already-completed games could receive Mythics retroactively
Long-time Xbox achievement hunters may have another reason to get excited.
According to TrueAchievements, Mythic Achievements are expected to be retroactive.
That means players who have already completed the relevant base achievement lists could receive Mythic recognition once the feature becomes available. They reportedly would not need to replay those games simply to trigger the new reward.
That could be a major deal for players with years of Xbox achievement history.
XCT.live’s investigation does add an important caveat. While the Xbox PC app appeared prepared to handle Mythic-related completion information, the necessary server-side data and feature activation were reportedly not live during its checks.
So the exact behaviour across existing games will depend on Microsoft’s eventual server-side rollout.
Your Xbox profile could soon show your Mythic collection
Mythic also appears set to become part of the way Xbox profiles showcase completion progress.
TrueAchievements reports that players will have a total Mythic Achievement count displayed on their profiles.
The achievement interface is also expected to show Mythic progress for individual games, allowing players to see what remains before they reach the completion milestone.
There are reports of additional visual changes as well. Games that have earned a Mythic could receive special treatment in the Xbox Gaming tab, including a green star, laurel and green border around the game’s artwork.
The Gaming tab itself is also reportedly being revamped to present additional statistics, including Gamerscore, total achievements and the number of Mythics earned.
That gives completionists another statistic to chase without replacing Gamerscore.
Xbox players have wanted this for years
The demand for a Platinum-style Xbox reward is hardly new.
GamingBible highlighted an older Reddit discussion where Xbox achievement hunters talked about wanting a dedicated completion milestone.
One player wrote:
“I wish that XBOX had something like platinum trophies,”
The same player added:
“I like Gamerscore better than the trophy system, except I wish we had a number next to our Gamerscore that showed how many games we 100%-ed or something to that effect!”
That captures the appeal of Mythic pretty well.
Xbox already gives players a large numerical record of their accomplishments. What it lacked was a universal way to say, essentially, this game is completely finished.
Mythic appears designed to provide exactly that.
Xbox fans are already reacting to the Mythic discovery
The latest discovery has quickly sparked discussion among Xbox achievement hunters.
One response to Klobrille’s post asked:
“They never had a Platinum trophy equivalent?”
Another Xbox user explained that some individual games had offered similar rewards, but those had to be built directly into their achievement lists and could carry their own Gamerscore.
The user concluded:
“But outside of saying 100% on the achievements list, no. So this is a good addition.”
Another player highlighted the difference between the two platforms’ approaches, saying they personally preferred Xbox’s Gamerscore and points system while still viewing the new badge as a welcome addition.
The unlock presentation itself has also become part of the conversation, with one reaction summing up the completionist appeal:
“Finally, a real reason to 100% something. That unlock sound better go hard,”
For players who spend dozens of hours hunting obscure collectibles, difficult challenges and hidden objectives, that extra recognition could make the final achievement feel like a proper finishing moment.
Mythic Achievements still don’t have an official launch date
There is one important thing Xbox players should keep in mind: Mythic Achievements have not officially launched for everyone yet.
The feature is clearly appearing in Xbox software, but that does not mean every Xbox player can currently earn or display Mythics.
XCT.live’s examination of Xbox PC app version 2610.1000.53.0 found Mythic-related interface elements, animation, sound and data handling. However, the investigation indicated that the necessary feature flag and server-side achievement-group data had not yet been activated during its checks.
TrueAchievements has reported that Mythic Achievements are expected to roll out soon, but Microsoft has not publicly announced a general release date.
There is also no official confirmation connecting the feature to a specific upcoming game or console update.
GamingBible speculated that Mythic could arrive alongside Gears of War: E-Day on October 2, but that remains speculation and should not be treated as Microsoft’s confirmed launch plan.
For now, the safest description is that Mythic Achievements are being prepared and appear to be getting closer to release, while the exact rollout remains unannounced.
What Xbox players need to know about Mythic
Based on the information currently available, the system is expected to work like this:
- Name: Mythic Achievement
- Purpose: Recognize completion of a game’s original/base achievement list
- Base-game requirement: Players reportedly need to unlock every achievement in the designated BaseGame group
- DLC achievements: Reportedly do not count
- Title-update achievements: Reportedly do not count
- Gamerscore: The Mythic itself reportedly awards 0 Gamerscore
- Tracking: Mythics are reportedly tracked separately at a meta level
- Presentation: Dedicated icon, badge, notification, animation and unlock sound
- Profile: A total Mythic count is reportedly planned
- Individual games: Players are expected to be able to track Mythic progress
- Visual recognition: Completed games could receive special Gaming tab artwork treatment
- Existing completions: Reportedly eligible for retroactive Mythic recognition
- Current status: Appearing in Xbox software but not yet fully activated for everyone
- Release date: Not officially announced
The most important takeaway is that Mythic should not currently be described simply as a reward for hitting 100% Gamerscore.
The first Xbox PC app discovery created that expectation, but the newer evidence from TrueAchievements and XCT.live points toward a system based on a game’s designated original/base achievement list.
That also means DLC and later achievement additions reportedly won’t force players to keep chasing a new 100% completion target after earning their Mythic.
After years of Xbox players asking for a dedicated full-game completion reward, Microsoft appears to be preparing a system that finally gives achievement hunters another milestone to chase.
The name is Mythic, the reward has its own presentation, and the evidence inside Xbox’s software suggests the long-awaited completion badge is getting closer.
The only thing missing right now is Microsoft’s official launch announcement.
