Bethesda has officially confirmed that Starfield is coming to PlayStation 5 on April 7, 2026, alongside the game’s biggest free update yet and a brand new paid story expansion.
Starfield originally launched as an Xbox and PC exclusive, but it is now making its way to PS5 in a big way. The April 7 launch does not just bring the base game to Sony’s platform. It arrives alongside two major content additions available across all platforms on the same day, making it a significant moment for both new and returning players.

- Light bar that displays your character’s health and ship integrity in real time
- Touchpad support for switching between first-person and third-person perspective and accessing the map and hand scanner

- PS5 Pro support with a Visual mode running at 4K resolution at 30fps and a Performance mode offering improved visuals at 60fps
Free Lanes Update: What Is New for Everyone?
The Free Lanes update launches on April 7 across all platforms and is free for all players. Bethesda describes it as the biggest free update since the game’s original launch, representing a game-wide evolution with interplanetary exploration at its core.

Space Travel
- Players can now fly freely between planets within any star system in any direction
- A new cruise mode lets you speed up interplanetary travel while chatting with crewmates or decorating your ship during longer journeys
- New points of interest appear during cruise mode, and you can change your destination to investigate them on the fly
- New space encounters have been added with increased encounter frequency. Some involve combat, and others may require you to explore ship wreckages
Exploration and Traversal
- A brand new Moon Jumper land vehicle arrives for planetary exploration, designed for high-jump and boost traversal and reducing the frustration of crossing large distances on foot
- A greater range of POIs across planets gives explorers more to discover
- New side quests and countless quality-of-life improvements round out the experience
Gear and Customisation
- A new resource called X-Tech has been added, which you can spend alongside regular credits to customise weapons, gear, and ships
- X-Tech enables re-rolls for legendary effects on your weapons
- New ship modules and deeper outpost and ship building options have also been introduced
Outposts and Progression
- Shared Outpost containers let you access stored gear at any of your outposts
- You can now add an outpost pet to your base
- An optimisation terminal is available to add to your ship for further customisation
- Two new higher-level quality tiers for gear have been added: Superior and Exceptional
- A new database system and additional side quests are also part of the update
- Players starting a New Game+ run can now carry all previously acquired gear into it
Terran Armada DLC: What Does It Add?
The Terran Armada is a brand new story expansion launching on April 7. You can purchase it separately for $9.99, or access it as part of the Premium Edition or via the Premium Edition Upgrade. Existing Premium Edition owners on Xbox and PC receive Terran Armada at no extra cost.
The DLC introduces a new threat to the Settled Systems: the Terrans, described by Bethesda as “an advanced militant force with their own vision for the Settled Systems,” commanding an army of advanced robots with enough firepower to reshape the galaxy. Here is what the expansion adds:
- A new story questline centred on confronting the Terran Armada
- A new Incursion system featuring battles ranging from small skirmishes to large-scale infiltrations of Terran vessels, with varying objectives and powerful new gear rewards
- Replayable Incursions that reward extra loot on repeat runs
- Three new companions, including a Terran robot companion that joins your crew
- New weapons with a grounded aesthetic and a high degree of moddability
- New gear, ship parts, and elite crew members
- New outpost pre-builds and decorations
- Options to limit how often non-story incursions appear via gameplay settings
Trackers Alliance Creation Bundle
The Trackers Alliance bounty arc is available now through the Creations menu as a separate purchase. The complete bounty series features seven unique high-value targets to hunt down across the Settled Systems, each with their own self-contained story, tough choices, and pursuits that take you all across the galaxy.
