Grand Theft Auto VI has not even launched yet, and players are already doing what the Rockstar community does best: zooming into trailers, studying character faces, connecting story threads and asking whether the studio is quietly repeating something that worked before.
This time, the character under the microscope is Jason Duval. Since Rockstar began showing more of Jason alongside Lucia, some Red Dead Redemption 2 fans have noticed similarities between him and Arthur Morgan, the legendary protagonist voiced and performed by Roger Clark.
Now, Clark himself has weighed in.
During a Red Dead Redemption panel at FanX Salt Lake Comic & Pop Culture Convention, where he appeared alongside John Marston actor Rob Wiethoff, Clark addressed the growing Arthur-versus-Jason comparisons. His answer was surprisingly grounded: he understands why fans are making the connection, but there simply is not enough GTA 6 information yet to say whether the similarities go any deeper.
And honestly, that might be the most Rockstar answer possible.
Roger Clark Says the Arthur Morgan and Jason Comparisons Are Inevitable
The conversation came up when Collider’s Maggie Lovitt asked Clark about fans searching for traces of Arthur Morgan in Rockstar’s next major protagonist.
Clark immediately acknowledged why the comparison exists.
“Obviously there are going to be comparisons because it’s Rockstar’s next game,” he said.
That is difficult to argue with. Arthur Morgan has become one of Rockstar’s most recognizable protagonists, and Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the studio’s most discussed narrative games years after release.
Jason, meanwhile, is stepping into the spotlight as the male lead of Grand Theft Auto VI. Naturally, players are going to compare Rockstar’s newest protagonist with the character who left such a huge impression on them.
Clark also understood why fans have noticed similarities in Jason and Arthur’s facial appearance.
But that is where he drew the line.
When asked whether there could be deeper similarities between the two characters, Clark responded:
“It’s hard to say until we actually get a go at it.”
That distinction matters.
The trailers can show Jason’s appearance, personality and relationship with Lucia, but they cannot reveal everything about how his character develops across the complete GTA 6 story. So while fans can speculate, there is currently no basis for treating Jason as an intentional Arthur Morgan successor or reimagining.

GTA 6 Fans Are Comparing More Than Jason’s Face
The Arthur Morgan comparisons have not stopped at character design.
Players have also drawn parallels between Jason and Lucia’s relationship in GTA 6 and Arthur Morgan and Mary Linton’s relationship in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Both relationships have generated discussion because the protagonists’ personal lives are complicated by their involvement in criminal worlds. That broad thematic similarity has encouraged fans to look for deeper connections between the two Rockstar stories.
But there is an important line between noticing a similarity and confirming a narrative parallel.
Rockstar has not said that Jason and Lucia’s relationship was directly modeled on Arthur and Mary’s story. There is also no official information establishing a connection between Jason and Arthur.
For now, those theories remain fan interpretations.
And Clark’s comments reinforce that point. Even the actor who spent years bringing Arthur Morgan to life is not pretending that trailers provide enough information to settle the question.
Rockstar’s Jason Is Already Very Different on Paper
Rockstar’s official description gives players some important background on Jason.
The developer says Jason “grew up around grifters and crooks.” He later spent time in the Army before eventually finding himself working for local drug runners in the Keys.
His life changes further after meeting Lucia.
Rockstar describes their relationship as central to the GTA 6 story, with the pair relying on each other after an easy score goes wrong and sends them into a criminal conspiracy stretching across the fictional state of Leonida.
Rockstar also teases that meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing to happen to Jason.
That gives players plenty to analyze, especially considering how much of Arthur’s story revolved around loyalty, relationships, crime and the possibility of a different life.
Still, those are broad storytelling themes—not evidence that Jason is secretly designed to be another Arthur Morgan.

Roger Clark Is Not Confirmed for GTA 6
Naturally, the FanX panel also led to another question fans have been asking for a while:
Could Roger Clark himself appear in GTA 6?
Clark was asked about the possibility.
His answer was that he is not in the game “to my knowledge.”
Then came the joke: Clark added that he would give the same answer even if he actually were involved.
That makes the exchange fun for fans, but it should not be turned into a cameo confirmation.
Clark did not announce that he appears in GTA 6, and Rockstar has not officially identified him as part of the game’s cast.
So, for now, there is no confirmed Roger Clark appearance in Grand Theft Auto VI.
The joke leaves room for fans to keep theorizing, but there is a major difference between an actor joking about secrecy and an official casting announcement.
Clark Is Excited to See What Rockstar Does With GTA 6
While Clark would not draw a definitive connection between Arthur and Jason, he was clearly enthusiastic about Grand Theft Auto VI itself.
“We have very limited information, but the trailers look amazing,” Clark said.
He also said he expects Rockstar to “knock it out of the park again.”
For fans, that is probably the more interesting part of his comments. Clark is not dismissing Jason or suggesting that comparisons with Arthur are meaningless. Instead, he appears to be taking the same approach many players are taking: wait until the game is actually playable before judging what Rockstar has built.
That is especially notable coming from someone so closely associated with Rockstar’s previous protagonist.
Clark’s performance helped make Arthur Morgan one of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s defining characters, so players naturally use Arthur as a reference point when Rockstar introduces another major lead.
But Jason still has his own story to tell.
Jason and Lucia Are Driving GTA 6’s Criminal Story
Rockstar has placed Jason Duval and Lucia at the center of Grand Theft Auto VI.
The official character material describes Jason as someone who wants an easier life but repeatedly gets pulled into difficult situations. His background includes growing up around criminals, serving in the Army and eventually working for local drug runners in the Keys.
Then comes Lucia.
After an easy score goes wrong, Jason and Lucia find themselves caught in a much larger criminal conspiracy spanning Leonida. Their survival increasingly depends on their ability to trust and rely on one another.
That setup gives GTA 6 a strong character-driven foundation while returning the series to modern-day Vice City.
It also explains why players are already comparing Jason’s relationships and personality with characters from Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar has a long history of building crime stories around complicated characters, loyalty and relationships.
But until the full game is in players’ hands, those comparisons remain just that—comparisons.
Nothing officially establishes that Jason is another Arthur Morgan, that Jason and Arthur are connected, or that Jason and Lucia’s relationship is intentionally recreating Arthur and Mary’s.

GTA 6 Release Date Is Getting Closer
The wait is finally entering its final stretch.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s official website currently lists the November release date and continues to feature Jason and Lucia as the game’s central characters.
Pre-orders are already available. Rockstar has also confirmed that digital pre-loading begins at local midnight on November 12, 2026.
There is another detail players should know: the physical version does not contain a game disc. Instead, the box contains a download code, allowing players to begin the pre-load process from November 12.
Rockstar’s current official platform information lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
That means players will soon get the one thing trailers can never fully provide: hands-on time with Jason, Lucia and the wider world of Leonida.
And that is when the Arthur Morgan comparisons can finally be tested properly.
For now, Roger Clark’s message is pretty simple. Yes, he sees why players are comparing Jason with Arthur. Yes, he understands the facial similarities and the broader relationship theories. But even Arthur Morgan’s actor does not have enough information to say whether there is anything deeper going on.
Until GTA 6 actually arrives, the Jason-versus-Arthur debate remains firmly in the fan-theory zone.
