Where Is the Hakone Nanamagari Touge in Forza Horizon 6?

The Hakone Nanamagari Touge sits in the lower eastern portion of the Nangan region, southeast of Tokyo City. To get your bearings on the map, look for the Irokawa Space Centre near the bottom-left of the map. Just north of the space centre, you will see a dense cluster of incredibly winding, snake-like roads. That is the Touge.

To drive there from Tokyo City, head south into Nangan and continue along the coastal highway. Turn right just before the tunnel that leads onto the bridge, then follow the winding route until you reach the race start point. Once you discover the road for the first time, fast travel becomes available to this location on all future visits, so you will not need to drive out again.

What Kind of Race Is the Hakone Nanamagari Touge?

This is a 1v1 Touge Battle run in a downhill format. You race a single AI opponent across the winding mountain road, and the goal is simply to finish ahead of them. The race is considered one of the easier Touge battles in the game in terms of overall difficulty. However, do not underestimate the AI, as it drives aggressively through the tight hairpin corners and will not hesitate to use the road width to its advantage.

Winning this race also counts toward the White Ghost Achievement, which requires you to win a total of 5 Touge Battles across Forza Horizon 6. So if you are chasing achievements, this is a good one to knock out early.

Why Is the Race Not Showing Up on Your Map?

This is the most common issue players run into, and the reason is simple: you have to physically discover the road first before the race event appears on your map.

If that area of the map still shows as dark green or unexplored, the Touge race icon will not appear regardless of where you look in the menus. Here is how to fix that:

Step-by-Step: How to Unlock the Hakone Nanamagari Touge Race

  • Step 1: Check your wristband level You need at least the yellow wristband and sufficient Horizon progress to unlock and freely explore seasonal activity locations. Make sure you have progressed far enough in the main game before attempting this.
  • Step 2: Tune your Toyota GR86 to B Class before you go This is the step most players miss. The race requires a B Class (B 600) tune on the 2022 Toyota GR86. If your car’s Performance Index rating is even a single point over the class limit, the game will not let you select it at the race start. Sort the tune before you drive out there, not after.
  • Step 3: Drive to the location You do not need a waypoint or any specific trigger in the menu. Simply drive your car into the Nangan region toward the winding roads near the Irokawa Space Centre. No special condition is needed beyond arriving at the location.
  • Step 4: Discover the road As soon as you drive onto the greyed-out asphalt in that area, the map updates, the road clears, and the Hakone Nanamagari Touge race event instantly unlocks on your map.
  • Step 5: Start the race and win Select the race, confirm your B Class GR86, and win the Touge battle to complete Step 4 of the Gazoo Racer Weekly Challenge.

Common Issues and Fixes

The GR86 is not selectable at the race start This is a known bug. If you tuned the car before attempting any of the earlier challenge steps, the game can sometimes lock you out of selecting it. The fix is straightforward: either reset the tune back to stock or buy a fresh GR86 from the auction house and leave it at its base tune before applying a compliant B Class setup.

The race icon still does not appear after driving there After discovering the road, open the map, switch off all filters, then apply the Touge filter to search specifically for the event. Keep in mind that this filter method only works reliably once you have already driven through the area. If you have not physically discovered the road yet, the icon will not show up through filters alone.

The game is not recognising Speed Zone stars from Step 2 Some players have found that the Speed Zone challenge shows three stars in the activity itself but does not register as complete in the challenge tracker. Make sure you are driving the GR86 specifically, not any other car, when you attempt the Speed Zones.

Tips for Winning the Touge Race

Once you are in the race, here are a few things worth knowing before you hit the start line.

Set up a grip-focused tune, not a drift setup. The GR86 corners well, and the Touge rewards clean, consistent lines through the hairpins. A drift build might feel more fun, but a tight grip tune will be more reliable against the AI on this particular course.

The AI is aggressive at the opening corner. Several players have found that nudging the AI car off the first turn gives you a clean run for the rest of the race. It is not the most elegant approach, but it is an effective one if you are struggling to hold the lead.

B Class GR86 is not fast on straights, so use the tight, winding sections to your advantage. The road layout naturally favours cleaner cornering over outright top-end speed, which plays directly into the GR86’s strengths.

If you are still struggling, buy a fresh GR86 from the auction house and set up a new B Class tune from scratch. Multiple players who had issues with pre-tuned or previously modified cars found that a clean build resolved both the selection bug and general handling inconsistencies.
