Grow a Garden 2 Mutations Guide: Every Multiplier Listed and Can You Stack Them?

If two players harvest the same crop in Grow a Garden 2 and one walks away with ten times the Sheckles, Mutations are almost certainly why. These modifiers attach to your crops during weather events or through natural growth, and they can turn an ordinary harvest into a serious payday.

What Are Mutations in Grow a Garden 2?

Mutations are modifiers that apply to crops while they grow in Grow a Garden 2. Each mutation changes a crop’s appearance and adds a value multiplier to it, meaning the crop sells for significantly more Sheckles when you take it to the merchant. Some mutations occur naturally as your plants grow, while others only appear during specific weather events. The general rule is simple: the rarer the mutation, the higher the multiplier, and the more Sheckles you earn.

Bloodlitx60Chance during Blood Moon eventNight only

Note: Aurora multiplier values vary across sources and have shifted with recent patches, ranging from x40 to x90. The official wiki currently lists x40, though some post-update reports suggest it may be higher. Check in-game or the official Grow a Garden 2 wiki for the most current figure.

Bloodlit currently offers one of the highest confirmed multipliers in Grow a Garden 2. Both the Blood Moon and Starfall events are night-only, so make sure you have ripe crops ready in your garden before nightfall to take full advantage when these events trigger.

Can You Stack Mutations in Grow a Garden 2?

No. Mutations cannot be stacked in Grow a Garden 2. Each crop can only carry one mutation at a time, even if it remains on the plant through multiple weather events. This is a key difference from the original Grow a Garden, where mutation stacking was possible and allowed players to combine multipliers for massive Sheckle totals.

The developers have not confirmed whether stacking will be added to Grow a Garden 2 in a future update. However, given that the original game supported it, the possibility remains open.

How Mutations Work on Plants vs Crops

It is worth understanding the difference between Crop Mutations and Plant Mutation Variants in Grow a Garden 2.

Crop Mutations apply to the harvested fruit itself and add the multiplier to its sell value. Importantly, when a multi-harvest plant regrows after you pick its fruit, the new crop will not automatically carry the same mutation. Each harvest is a fresh roll.

Plant Mutation Variants apply to the plant itself and increase the chance of that plant producing crops with a matching mutation. Currently, the only two Plant Variants available in Grow a Garden 2 are Gold and Rainbow. Planting a Golden Seed or Rainbow Seed gives that plant a higher ongoing chance of producing Gold or Rainbow mutated crops respectively, which makes these seeds a strong investment for consistent mutation farming.

How to Get More Mutations

A few practices will increase your chances of picking up mutations regularly:

Stay online during weather events. Each weather event gives crops in the ground a chance to receive the associated mutation. The longer your crops sit in the ground during an active event, the more rolls they receive.

Prepare for night events in advance. Blood Moon and Starfall are both night-only events. Having ripe crops already in the ground before nightfall gives you the best chance of landing a Bloodlit or Starstruck mutation when these events trigger.

Use Sprinklers. Sprinklers can help boost mutation chances on specific crops, so placing them on your most valuable plants during an active event is a reliable strategy.

Plant Golden and Rainbow Seeds. These special seeds give plants a boosted natural chance of producing mutated crops, even outside of dedicated events.

Protect your mutated crops. Highly mutated crops are prime targets for thieves at night. Consider placing defensive plants like Dragon’s Breath near your most valuable crops to deter would-be stealers before you get a chance to harvest.

Best Mutations to Target

PriorityMutationMultiplierNotes
BestBloodlitx60Night-only Blood Moon event; prepare crops before dark
SecondStarstruckx50Night-only Starfall event; same preparation advice applies
ThirdAurorax40 to x90Multiplier varies post-patches; strong upside potential
ReliableRainbowx30Can occur naturally and via Rainbow Seeds; consistent option

Since mutations cannot stack in Grow a Garden 2, your goal is simply to have as many ripe crops ready as possible when high-value events like Blood Moon or Starfall go live. The more crops you have in the ground at the right moment, the more chances you have for a top-tier mutation to land.
